We stayed here for one night as it was dog friendly. The room was an ok size. It was just a bit run…read moredown. Think it needs some TLC. The bathroom was also ok. The building outside is really impressive but the inside does not match that. This is also a Best Western which is not obvious from the name. The staff are really friendly. I asked for 2 plates and some cutlery as we had brought back a takeaway. Some place can be weird about this but they were very obliging. Would recommend for a night or 2.

There is entertainment all day for all the family, including pipe bands and highland dancing, not to be missed. This event promotes all the lovely food shops in Castle Douglas and happens every year. Or if you're a bit posh then theres the cairndale, station or aston hotel. However this is an ok little guest house, with a decent bar, and nice food, and its two minutes walk from the town centre, so if you're staying over for a night then this place is cool, any longer than one night then I'd go somewhere a bit nicer.

We gave him the basics of what we were looking for, and he created a custom trip for us, 4 days, 3 B&B's. Part of the package was bikes that were fit to us and worked well. Robbin Hogg (owner/operator) moved our luggage to each new B&B daily. Each day we had choices on how to get to the next spot. Options were long and short, all included good sights, interesting & tasty things to do. Daily maps showing the route, sights/interests, and hills. Detailed and customized, easy to follow. Other travelers we met along the way who were traveling their own customized tours with Galloway were very nice. Dumfries & Galloway is a beautiful part of Scotland, rolling hills, never too steep. Lovely at every turn. Lodging - we started and ended our trip at Summerhill which is run by Tina (Mrs Hogg) absolutely beautiful, brand new house, the best accommodations. Tina is such a lovely lady and her breakfasts were delicious! All the B&B's on the trip were recommendable. Nothing fancy, pretty standard, but they had everything you need and the ladies that ran each one would bend over backwards for you. When we arrived soaking wet, Helen at Bobbin dried our clothes (in an actual dryer, so hard to find in the UK), Pat at Blaven drove us into town and back again. Always the breakfasts were tasty and plentiful. Overall just a terrific experience, I'm really glad we went. I highly recommend the trips and working with Robbin Hogg who seems to take person pride in making his clients' experiences the best they can be.

The seabass was pan-seared perfectly and on a set of stir fried vegetables which was a bit of an odd combo but delicious none the less. The duck breast was done to a medium rare as requested with cheesey tatties and steamed vegetables. The sides were not super creative but a great choice for dinner in the area.

We stayed in the little out-house, 'out back' and it was perfect! It's a quaint little B&B but it was perfect for our little weekend getaway, it can sleep 3 people (which we needed for the first night), the view is excellent, the staff is very pleasant, the bed was HUGE, good pillows, excellent breakfast, phone and internet reception is great - we'd stay here again! My only small complaints is that it was too hot overnight and the towels were the size of postage stamps. That aside it was a great stay, so very relaxing and removing from all things 'normal' and we'd love to go back!

I have been staying at the Trig for fishing holidays for over 25 years through several sets of…read moreowners. The hotel has reached new heights under the present incumbents, Adam and Jan, and is very successfully presented as a comfortable country house hotel. The rooms are adequate to large in size, with good-sized en-suite bathrooms (shower or shower/bath). Decor is kept in good order and cleanliness is good. Adam oversees the kitchen, with a focus on locally-produced food resulting in excellent hearty breakfasts (featuring full Scottish, kedgeree, kippers, smoked haddock and toast from bread made on the premises) and high-quality evening meals (very good seasonal game and fish) served either informally in the bar or in the restaurant, both with fires in the colder months. The wine list is well-chosen, with something to appeal to almost every pocket and palate. Among the many things that make the Trigony unique are the home-baked shortbreads in the rooms, the artisanally-made toiletries and the views of red squirrels in the garden. Their double-stacked burger had been recommended, but since I don't eat meat I opted for the veggie burger version. It too was the double version, with some salad bits and onion rings sandwiched between the two burgers, with a wee bowl of chips and some salsa dip on the side. The veggie burgers were of the mixed veg with breadcrumb coating variety, which I have to say is not my favourite - I'd rather have a tofu or soya version with more texture - but it was tasty enough and certainly filled the gaping hole that was my stomach. With a soft drink and a coffee afterwards, it came in at 12 pounds, which is not bad at all. I couldn't decide whether to give them 3 or 4 stars, but just for being open and serving food at 5.20pm, I think they deserve the extra star.
