New to Waxhaw and this place popped up on my yelp search. Looked interesting so we gave it a try. Amazingly at 2:30 in the afternoon it was packed! We were having a late lunch due to appointments running over but we were surprised there were so many people here. We were seated immediately but shorty after us was a wait. The lobster bisque was the soup of the day. It was very good! Nice flavor and there were chunks of lobster in it. Hubby is was ready to order a salad until he saw fish n onion rings on someone else's plate. He loved the fried of the fish, said it was very light! Kiddo raved about his grilled cheese and tortilla chips. And my nachos were amazing. This was the lunch portion, they also have a dinner portion. read more

Everything was really A-OK, considering it was a tavern/sports bar. I liked their Beer selection and would definitely return if nearby.

We had a great meal at this very busy resturant on a Friday night. The town is awesome all lit up with Christmas lights. The restaurant was very busy. Maxwell's is a Waxhaw fixture. The location and ambience are wonderful - right across from the railroad bridge! But what keeps me going back (from my home in Charlotte) are the hamburgers. They are consistently really good. This past trip after I had walked all over town, I sat at the bar and ordered the Carolina Burger with a Red Oak draft. This place rocks. The food is always on point and delicious. The menu has good choices like a patty melt for example. My wife always gets these amazing salads with steak. I always do either a patty melt or fish n chips. The fish n chips here are a tremendous hit. My stepson craves it all the time. The burgers here are excellent. I would like to say the best in Waxhaw. But that's my opinion and challenge me if you think not. Try them. They have a burger every month too. Very worth visiting. The bar can be a Hotspot. Bartenders are tip notch here. This place runs like a perfectly well oiled machine. We've done the drive up the rear which is always perfect and fast. Maxwells is a great little tavern with fantastic food and fast service! the workers are quick with their job and you get your food very quick, we got an appetizer of the bread with different butters and the cinnamon butter is fantastic! I definitely recommend that, the fries are fantastic they aren't mushy like some places, and their chicken sandwich was to die for - my boyfriend got the Ruben sandwhich and loved it! I definitely recommend, the only thing I'd say negatively about it is how small the inside is, seating can be very close together with another group depending on where you sit! read more

I love the Atmosphere in Maxwell's Tavern. The food is very tasty! It is nice to fin Maxwell 's in the center of Waxhaw NC.

Made our first visit to this Waxhaw local favorite and we can't wait to go back! We entered around 2 pm on Good Friday and had to wait a couple minutes for a table. It was worth the wait! The breading on the fish was excellent. The atmosphere is great to talk with friends or watch a game and there's public parking nearby. Very, VERY LOUD! Very, VERY COLD! Thermostats are by the kitchen, of all places. There should be a separate thermostat where the customers are sitting so as not to give them pneumonia. Food not so good tonight, either. Meh. Fish was greasy. Slaw tasted old. Burger was overcooked. read more

Their food is always up to par. Servers are experienced and friendly. Tomatoes are always crisp, bacon is the best quality, food is just fresh. Love their chili and BLTs. We live in the area and this place never disappoints. Do expect to wait a bit because everyone loves it here. If it is busy, we put our name in and then walk across over the bridge to Dreamchasers to have a drink while we wait. They page you when your table is ready and after walking back, the table is waiting for us. Food is amazing. Great Salmon (wild caught), also the salads are yummy. Amazing wings!! Pretty much everything here is good. Do be prepared that this is a busy restaurant, so I wouldn't suggest coming here if you're looking for a quiet atmosphere. When it is warmer, they have a patio that is nice as well. read more

Good place to eat. Not too pricey . Atmosphere is nice and it's right in the town of Waxhaw

This was suggested to us as probably being a good place, because there's always a line. There was about a 30 minute wait, but you can browse nearby shops, and they call when your table is ready. We started off with the mozzarella sticks, which were just right. Crispy outside, melty cheese inside. The marinara sauce was good. We both got burgers, and were very happy. Food comes out hot, it does not sit until someone can get it out. The bacon is good size pieces, and the burgers are large. I didn't even eat half of mine, and am looking forward to the leftovers! We will definitely try it again when we're in the area. read more

OK, the food was it was kind. I didn't like the food I had no flavor. I had ordered salmon with garlic, mashed potatoes and barbecue baked beans so but the customer service is really good. He kept coming to our table getting refills and they did really good with the time too and whatchamacallit. The food was cooked quick too. It was a good wait time the wait time it was in too long and yeah, so overall just based off at customer service is really good but the food was on the barbecue. OK the barbecue baked beans. Those are really bad like the texture is really bad. It was really bad. I just kept eating it cause I was hungry. The salmon was. I have flavor of some size but majority of it was I couldn't taste mine. I didn't put the lime on it then it just taste like lemon juice and the smashed potatoes is really good. Wonderful food, great staff. One of our hometown favorites. We moved to the area because of an experience in this restaurant 9 years ago. We were house hunting and came in to have lunch. We enjoyed our tasty meal and asked for the bill. The waitress said someone was impressed by our well behaved small children and purchased our meal and gave a nice tip as well. They did not want to be known. If that good sumaratin reads this I want them to know that we still to this day pay that kindness forward. If a family catches my eye, I do the same. We just had lunch here for the first time today and I'm already looking forward to going back! Our server, Maddie, was helpful, super friendly, and efficient. We're kind of newbies to the tapas concept so she was pretty patient with us, explaining the size of the dishes, and how they come out of the kitchen one at a time to be shared. My husband ordered the California Flatbread which we both loved. I chose the Figgy Flatbread. It was delicious but maybe a little too much of the fig jam for me, a little too sweet. My husband also had the chocolate salted caramel cone and loved it. We sat on the patio enjoying the music and the rare, almost cool-for-August weather! All in all a great lunch. I had the crab soup and some of the wings when I came here on a Saturday afternoon. The soup was really delicious, I was impressed. The wings were cooked perfectly (I asked for crispy) and the sauce was delicious. The service at the bar was good. The bartender was super friendly. There weren't a lot of people, but I think because it was the day following a holiday, people were out of town. I really like the location of this spot. It's right downtown in the middle of it all.
