Wow, this place was amazing! We flew into Cancun and arrived at the hotel a little later but after a long day of travel and trying to find this place in the dark, we were in awe at how beautiful this hotel was and how friendly the staff was. We stayed in a room that had a view of the Ruins and a gorgeous balcony that over looked the insane landscaping. The food was amazing, pricing was good, atmosphere and staff were all on point. Special shout out to our hotel friend Marcos, who went above and beyond and would always come over and greet us and even surprised us with tickets into the light show put on at night in Chichén Itzá. We also had the best waiter at the breakfast who went and got us our own personal tour guide, Jaime, who walked us through the ruins and fed us a ton of insane information. Our bartender working the bar every night was also insanely friendly and made the end of our day that much more enjoyable with delicious drinks and good conversation. The food was amazing and this was the best place to start off our honeymoon. Lots of site seeing and cenotes all around. So glad we rented a car and could go explore all of them on our own time.

What a spectacular place to stay and also to learn. This 93 year old hotel and bungalows was built at the site of one of the "seven wonders of the modern world" the pyramids of Chchen Itzá. It has its own private entrance to the arqueological zone and within the beautiful grounds you can find some maya ruins. The bungalows are very nice and modern with beautiful design stain glass windows, private porche and you own hamac. The grounds are so perfectly maintained and so are the 3 pools, there are several restaurants serving buffet style and a la carte menus. There is a SPA offering massages, a boutique, a souvenir and snack Store a chocolate museum and an amazing planetarium that offers a Mayan show 3 times a day. If you come to Chichén Itzá you should stay at this beautiful place at least 1 night but there are so many places to explore around that you can stay 3 or more nights to enjoy nature at its best. The service is great and all the staff very helpful and knowledgeable, Alex is great!!

Recently, we stayed here the night before visiting Chichen Itza, and I do recommend it since it's pretty close to the ruins and it's right across the street from the Ik Kil Cenote. I stayed here years ago and a lot seems to have changed and still staying the same. The rooms are pretty basic, but the AC worked wonderfully. You will get some bugs in your room, but that's part of the charm of being in the Yucatan. The water pressure in the shower still was very weak, and the bathroom isn't sealed off to the outside, except for a screen. I guess it's to let the humidity escape. They do offer a complimentary shuttle to chichen itza. Also there is an on site restaurant that serves food. There really isn't anything nearby, so either you're eating here, or you're bringing in food from elsewhere.

Just a 5 minute walk away from the ruins, it's the perfect place to spend the night. There is nothing to dislike about this hotel. The hotel is very clean and well kept. If you want to beat the crowd to see the pyramid, but not willing to pay exorbitant price of Mayaland, this is the place for you. The hotel itself is very clean & homey. The room is smallish - it has a cute layout & we love the bed nook, but there is no space to put your suitcase. AC unit works fine though a bit noisy. Infant crib is very uncomfortable. Restaurant at the hotel is decent. Wifi only works in the lobby. What I love the most about this place - it is very quiet here at night, save for the crickets and cicadas, but once the day breaks.. the whole place suddenly comes alive with birds chirping right outside your window. That's a pretty great alarm clock if you ask me.

Not only was it abandoned but the mattresses were filthy and the windows could not lock. We looked up the hotel down the street which happened to be Hotel Chichen Itza for $40 a night. It was well worth it. I highly recommend anyone thinking about staying at Stardust Inn to spend the extra $18 and stay at Hotel Chichen Itza instead. The main lobby is open and under a huge bungalow type roof. The front lobby is essentially outside. There is a fountain with a mariachi band made of metal standing in front of the fountain. An old carriage decorates a corner of the bungalow lobby. Plants climb up and down the walls. We even saw a kitten that wandered around the grounds. It was a huge relief seeing such a quaint hotel after looking at Stardust Inn. Not only did Hotel Chichen Itza have free wifi but it also had hot water and a friendly staff. We had no problem checking in after booking the reservation on my cell phone. The backyard was like a hidden oasis in Piste. It had a nice pool with lounge chairs and tables. The pool area was clean and next to the hotel's restaurant which had delicious food. Plants and flowers made the grounds look lush. The service was good and our waiters were very friendly with suggestions on local cuisine. My boyfriend and I both ate the Yucatan specials. They were savory and the meal was cheap! The location of the hotel was good. It was about a five-minute drive to Chichen-Itza and located in Piste so we could walk around the town and look at souvenirs. One thing to note about this area though is the number of bugs and insects you will see. There is a lot of plant life and the area has a jungle-like feel. There are insects everywhere including the restaurant in the hotel. The room was comfortable and cool. The A.C worked wonderfully. The room was large and the bed was soft. We had a room on the second floor facing the street. There was more noise due to being next to the street but we didn't mind. The water pressure in the bathroom was good and the hot water worked fine. We also loved their oatmeal soap. It smelled so good. We even used it for the rest of our trip after leaving Piste. One thing I do want to say about the bathroom is it smells terrible. It smells like jungle mixed with sewage, but hey, for $40 a night in a prime location with a good restaurant, and a comfortable bed, we didn't mind. The wifi is also spotty but will work if there are not a lot of guests in the hotel. We essentially only needed a safe and comfortable place to sleep and rest and that's exactly what we got at Hotel Chichen Itza. Overall it was a positive experience and I would stay here again.

Tucked in off the street, you would have no idea the gorgeous grounds and cabanas were back there. There is art created by local artists everywhere and swimming in the naturally heated cenote under the hotel can't be missed. The staff were amazing, welcoming and friendly-one even took the time to give me some Mayan language lessons (it is spoken extensively in this part of the Yucatan). But hands down my favorite part was their in house tequila! I kid you not, the smoothest, best tequila I have ever had! They give you a free shot when you arrive and sell it for $11(!) a bottle. We went home last year with 4 bottles, and even made a day trip there just last week to get more. The only down side is that you cannot walk to the main square from Zentik, but even with that, I don't imagine we will stay anywhere else on a trip to Vallodalid.

Save yourself some stress and please use our directions to drive to this wonderful establishment: From Cancun/Airport - Take 307 to 180 to 180D (basically follow the signs to Valladolid/Merida). Be warned, this is a toll road. It costs about 300 pesos and they do not accept foreign currency or credit cards. The cost is about $15-20 USD, but will save you about 90minutes. Since it is a toll road, there are no towns or gas stations till you hit Valladolid (about 90km). After about an hour (we drove the speed limit), take 295 South towards Valladolid. At the roundabout, follow the signs to Cancun via 180 (the Northeastern part of the "wheel" if you look at a map). At the stop sign, take a left and cross over the highway and 2 exit/entrance ramps to the Hotel (It's a huge sign/gated entrance). If you see Mayapan Traditional Agave Distillery, you've gone West instead of East. If you see the police stop in Valladolid, you've gone too far and do not use the 180 that runs through town; it will take you all the way to Tulum. Five Stars isn't enough to describe how amazing Hacienda Kaan AC. A hidden gem in the Yucatan that has set the standard for all of our future stays at any Resort/Bed & Breakfast. We were hesitant to write this review, because we thought about keeping it for ourselves and the locals that visit here often. If you are looking for a combination of rest and adventure, look no further. The Hacienda, itself, is rich in history, which is detailed in a book written in 1864. The book, "El Filibustero" described the adventure and love story of a pirate that resulted in the property that is translated from Mayan to mean "High in the Sky," hence the hotel's other name "El Olimpo." Even the main building, El Castillo, was reconstructed from the archaeological remains of a 16th century castle (large pictures of the site are located in the resorts restaurant) and contains an extensive collection of artwork from that period. Yes, you are literally staying in a museum and historical site located in the heart of the Yucatan. More on adventure: We highly recommend that you have your own transportation if you decide to stay here. The hotel is located 15minutes North of ancient city of Valladolid, a great place for strolling through its colonial-era stone streets to visit extremely tourist friendly restaurants, chapels, markets, and cenotes. Three major Mayan Ruins are located within driving distance: Chichen Itza, Ek' Balam, and Coba (the last is located in Quintana Roo half way between the hotel and the ocean), Many cenotes are located around the hotel in addition to their own private one (the mechanism used for raising and lowering people looks ancient and scary - we don't think it has been in operation for years). More on relaxation: During your stay, you can enjoy their pools, wander the grounds, or just relax in their comfortable rooms with jetted tubs and powerful AC units. You'll basically have your own private Butler that works the grounds and the restaurant. Edwardo worked two of the three nights that we visited. English was not his first language, but he was extremely patient and friendly. Helping us despite our horrid Spanish (we've gotten rusty over the last ten years since living in Juarez) and teaching us some Mayan in the process: "Ni'bo'olal!". Each stay comes with a complimentary breakfast at their restaurant too (Please see our separate review for the restaurant). I could write pages on how amazing and relaxing our stay was Hacienda Kaan AC. We'd love to return and, if your looking for an amazing hotel on your adventures in the Yucatan, we suggest you that you plan your stay here.
