I rented there 20 years ago and I moved back in in 2024. The management at the time was great (Nichole, Steven) Now its changed hands and Nicole is gone. They are so hard to reach by phone, Athena and Noah, I send an email and still no reply!!! I am trying to reach Noah to explain my bill, as I see it, I have been paying 81.00/mo for cable when it is supposed to be included!!!! They will rip you off. I moved out April 2025 and I could not get out fast enough!!!! The base rent for a large 1BR was 1375.00 it is supposed to incl cable, water, elec and internet. Their monthly statements are so hard to read. Elec is shared by all 1BR units. For some reason I was paying almost 1700.00/month. So ridiculous for a RUN-DOWN property. All you pay for is the location, that is it. You have to tolerate the water being shut off weekly-for maintenance, loud tenants with the music and none of the 4 elevators working at the same time. read more

#lyndisacrook The Lynd Company took ownership of the Mayflower in 2019. In the intervening time, the building has deteriorated from "aging yet decent" to marginally acceptable conditions. The first quarter of 2023 was shocking with the level of neglect of the building as a whole. -3 of 4 elevators inoperable -Swimming pool not cleaned in months (disgusting) -Staff that is indifferent to the misery of the tenants amidst unending complaints Turns out the Lynd Company was operating illegally after having its business license involuntarily terminated by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) in April 2022! All this time they're signing leases, using (or should I say misusing) the courts to evict residents, keeping residents in the dark about their lack of legal status with the state of Virginia. Business as usual, as though everything is fine - only it's not. They get "reinstated" in April 2023, and like magic, everything begins working! Elevators repaired, swimming pool cleaned, staff suddenly responsive to repair requests. Prospective residents, you'd best move on while Lynd still owns the building. They're trying to sell the place amidst growing exposure of their misdeeds by current and prior tenants who are rightfully upset about the circumstances. If the multiple requests by residents to the SCC to investigate Lynd's behavior while involuntarily terminated materialize, their attempts at selling may be halted indefinitely. And you'll be stuck. waste of money, ran down company.. also think it's ok to let plumbing get backed up in a tenants bathroom and after making a whole and a mess, tell tell it'll be a couple of months.. there is just a fraction of what their luxury apartments can cost you! after it's been weeks of it backed up and trying to get someone to take a look.. it is not worth the location to just walk to the beach for this local. I have lived at the beach all this time and definitely couldn't cut my rent in half to stay here.. Don't let the location fool you, or the fact that they have deactivated their old Yelp account and created this new one with bright and shiny photos of their supposed $13,000 per apartment renovations. The building is poorly maintained, the management does their job from their office chair and has no clue what is going on with their contractors, service requests, etc. They have also decided to file with the City of Virginia Beach a motion to become a location for short term rentals. This means that those who PAY a minimum of $1200 a month to live there will have to deal with random people having access to the building at all times and who knows what kind of renters these will be therefore opening the tenants to potential danger. So, just based on the three paragraphs above I would suggest you STAY AWAY from the Mayflower at all costs. But if those issues don't bother you how about: Black Mold - Three times I had mold develop in my bathroom and three times they came in with some spray to kill it, then a spray can of primer to hid it, and finally, some paint to blend it right in. Before I moved out in October, it had returned again in all the exact same locations as before. Filth - They a team of 5 or fewer people to maintain the interior and exterior of the building. It consistently has trash and debris flying around the garage and exterior. The "new flooring" they installed in the lobby is textured and therefore accumulates muck in the crevices there is no getting this out. On a regular basis, the basement bathrooms are disgusting and smell like an outhouse. The elevators usually have trash juice from the valet trashman or dog pee daily. Trash - We used to have a trashcan before you come across the breezeway from the garage, but no one empties it on the weekend so it would get full of trash and then trash beside it. You would think that since there is office staff 7 days a week that one of their duties could include emptying that trash bag so it didn't accumulate an excessive amount of garbage but instead they walk past it like it's invisible. But, the best part is, instead of instructing someone to empty it, they just flat out removed it from the garage. So, now instead of a trash can to hold the garbage, people just set the trash down where it used to be and it ends up blowing all over the place. Besides this, the dumpster gets so full from regular trash days and the ongoing renovations that bags and bags of garbage will at times be piled high around the dumpster for days before it is emptied. Maintenance Requests - Good luck, I have overheard from a tenant speaking to the office staff that their toilet was going on 2 weeks of leaking and no one had addressed it. Being that this is in the ONLY bathroom, technically that is an emergency request and should have been fixed within 24 hours. But, no instead the staff member said, "really?" I will check on it. Which shows there is no actual process of maintenance checks and balances. Building - In addition, to individual apartment issues, there were wires hanging out of the ceiling in the lobby for months. The door closers on the entries at the dumpsters, grills, and outdoor pull are inadequate for the weight of the doors and will absolutely slam on your feet, animal, or child with no remorse. The front door hasn't locked in a couple of months and anyone has access to the building without a key 24/7. There were safety lights out in the garage for over a month and who knows if they have been repaired since my departure. The elevator floor displays are mostly broken or don't work which I believe is a code violation and have been that way for a few months as well. Bugs - If you love nature you'll love your roach roommates. They love to hide in outlets, come out of the pipes, the walls, and occasionally go for a stroll down the hallways and especially love the basement laundry room. I have run out of space, but check out the pics if you take a tour pay close eye to all details of the non-existant $13,000 renovations. The cabinets are spray painted, there is no ice maker (used to be) and the windows are dangerous, cloudy, drafty, and leak! Oh, and I hope you love paying high utilities that they can't prove are yours while their contractors leave lights on in multiple apartments 24/7 and stay there too! Oh and the FIRE PITS don't work, (even though an April FB post says they do you're not even allowed out there once the pool closes. Lynd has destroyed the Mayflower, stay away! read more

lived in the Mayflower from summer of 2023-summer of 2024 and there was a total of two months' worth of time I lived there where either maintenance was not required, and everything was working. When I first moved in my AC did not work for a week, in the peak of the summer, this was then fixed but during my time staying there I frequently had to restart my AC/heater because it would stop working. Then my dishwasher leaked and needed to be replaced and when replaced still occasionally leaked and was not mounted into the wall so I had to do that myself as maintenance would hardly respond to my requests. Following this some plumbing work needed to be done in my bathroom to fix something for my neighbors, twice. The first time the plumbers did not clean up after themselves and left a hole in my wall and took down a cabinet that was mounted there, this would not be fixed for nearly 3 weeks with repeated requests to maintenance and I had to do the cleaning myself. Then they had to open a hole in the ceiling above my shower, they once again did not clean after themselves and I was left to clean their mess. This hole would not be fixed for a month when it was finally patched and fixed. Then finally after I had a week of my bathroom being usable and normal the plumbers mistakenly entered my unit without calling or notifying me to get permission tore out my faucet and handle for my shower/tub left a massive mess and left meaning I could not use my shower until they were able to replace the handle 3 hours after I got home at 5pm with once again not cleaning their mess up and maintenance taking nearly 2 weeks to fix the hole they put in my wall in my living room. The water for the building was frequently turned off for maintenance and turned back on hours after they said it would be. The AC in the summer broke multiple times. Not to mention the number of roaches living in this building could populate a city. The common areas were frequently dirty or uncleaned which is a combo of other tenants as well as on the management side. To address the maintenance, they frequently took a long time to respond to requests and almost every time it took my verbally complaining to the management staff to get my ticket that I created addressed. I will give maintenance credit that they did clean up after themselves (the plumbers were a third party hired service from my understanding that Lynd paid for), but they took so long it would not matter to me that they were respectful because that should be a given anyway. My last and final issue with the Mayflower is I moved out nearly 2 months ago and I have yet to receive my deposit back or any notification on where it went. I have called and emailed with no response on this and would not like to have to take further action to get my deposit back. read more

this is the WORST apartment complex i have ever seen. i broke my lease to move out two days ago because of it 1st, they are so shady. i discussed breaking my lease for months &had been told, as well as it being listed in my lease contract, that the break lease fee was $1550. i paid my entire balance through the online portal but suddenly AFTER moving out i was notified i have 30 days to pay $3100. i had previously emailed the manager nicole to confirm this was not correct & now suddenly my lease is gone online and i owe twice the amount i already paid. i confirmed and received FOUR confirmations that the elevators would work/are working for my move out. they didnt work on my moveout day- i had to enlist last minute help to help move ALL MY ITEMS down stairs & with my limited mobility (i have a heart condition) i had to leave items which im now being charged for. i understand why im being charged for that but considering i confirmed that id have a way to move out and then that was not true &was told if i waited any longer (i wanted to wait to move out until the elevators worked) i would be charged, i think this is ridiculous (i left like a box of items btw, not an entire apartment. i even had to have people go back the next day to help me because i physically could not do it) maintenance would come in while i'm not home and leave my door unlocked and open, leave their trash in my house, not put things back where they found it or leave stuff astray and leave doors open and my lights on. a few times i'd come back to my apartment smelling like cigarettes maintenance requests take a long time to fix, i had one request in for over a month and it took me emailing management three times for them to finally come, then they came in and didn't even fix the issue but marked it as resolved stuff is constantly breaking, i've had to put in more maintenance issues than any other apartment i've ever lived in. there are a ton of roaches everywhere. pest control has come in several times over my stay here (and i wasn't even here a year) but bugs kept coming. i'd literally have to buy my own pest control to keep them at bay which is ridiculous considering they charge you a monthly pest fee. so you pay monthly to get rid of pests but then they literally tell you to buy your own pest treatment then they send out passive aggressive emails about how pests are caused by residents leaving their trash out which brings me to the valet trash. they will make you think it's the residents' problem for not being tidy on trash days but it is entirely the valet trash company and apartment complex's fault. i've seen with my own eyes on multiple locations how they remove trash: they go floor to floor and father all the trash bags with their bare hands and put it all in a big pile by the elevators, then they throw it all into an elevator and send it down, not cleaning the floors after. but if a resident leaves a bag on the floor on trash day they are fined $50 per bag per day because it's untidy and attracts pests? bs the apartment doors don't even shut properly, i have to push extremely hard multiple times for them to shut and not come open immediately. after a while this didn't even work and no amount of slamming or pushing would make my doors stay closed. they just pop open. so my bedroom and bathroom doors never even worked. the bedroom lights with remotes are so annoying because its too close within the remote's radius that when you want to use it to turn on/off the light/fan in one room, it does it for the next room the lack of outlets is strange, for instance i had ONE outlet in my kitchen, right above the stove. so i had to use an extension cord across my stove for appliances or lug my microwave off the counter to put onto the stove to plug it in. they also don't provide microwaves and there's no space to put one above the stove. also the overhead lights in the bedrooms come with a remote control which is fine except for they have a crazy long distance so when you turn on/off the light/fan in one room, it does the same for the other room one time i had a maintenance request to fix my bathroom light that was leaking water and wouldn't turn on, maintenance took the light completely off (the ceiling debris were left all over my bathroom rug and floor) &left the light fixture in my hallway broken. they did not come back to fix it until like a week later, so i just had this stuff lying around my apartment REEKED of rotten eggs/something dead. i am extremely clean so i knew it had to be a problem with the sewage or something. my dishwasher worked fine &didnt smell and the plumbing was fine so im still not sure what that smell was, but it happened a lot in the mornings on random days. it was so bad that i thought it was a gas leak, but nothing was done about it please do not rent here. the location made me stay longer than i should have but i would (& did) pay to leave early so i dont have to deal with this read more

VERY overpriced. the only benefit is that it's next to the beach. my walls are peeling off, my lights switch doesn't work and they never respond to any of the maintenance requests. Not to mention this place is COVERED in roaches. my apartment is very clean and yet I find them on top of my fridge, my bathroom, and sometimes even my bed. I would also like to add the other tenants are very rude and they let their dogs pee and poop in the elevators and in the lobby. the little dog park is also always covered in feces. lastly, recent renovations will have you waking up at 6 am to hammering, drilling, and loud music the construction workers play. They also leave dust everywhere and never clean it up. This place is a dump. read more

My Wife and I were in Virginia Beach for the Neptune Festival end of September and, made the decision to move to Virginia Beach. I started doing some apartment searching, we had our heart set on Mayflower because, it's very close to the beach and it looked like a decent building, so I scheduled a tour. During my search, I started reading the reviews on each property we had interest in. I read all the reviews on Mayflower and, was very disappointed. I showed my Wife the reviews, we decided to do the tour anyway since we were going to be back down there for a few apartment tours. When we arrived at Mayflower, it looked pretty nice in the lobby area. As we waited to do the tour, a couple of the residents gave us their input on the building and said, don't move here. My Wife went out to the car to get something, she was speaking with a former resident. He gave his feeling on the building and said don't move there, not worth it. We finally started the tour, we saw the pool, gym, dog park. All could have used some maintenance. The laundry room was horrible, I wouldn't go down there by myself. We were taken to the 7th floor to see a two bedroom, as soon as we got off the elevator, we were hit with all kinds of smoke. Stale cigarette smoke, fresh cigarette smoke, marijuana.....this is supposed to be a smoke free building. The halls were dingy and garbage outside tenants apartments. I get it, they do valet trash, at least have bins to put the trash in. We get in the apartment, it's really small. Apparently the apartment was under renovation however, painting over, not sure how many years of old paint, is not renovation. The stove should have been changed out, there were burn areas on the stovetop. Everything was so dated. The apartment, rather the whole building has potential. We really wanted to love this building, we were so disappointed. read more

We lived here from Sept 2022- April 2023 and were exposed to AIRBORNE ASBESTOS during a repair to a leak in our kitchen. We do not want this to happen to anyone else, which is why I am taking the time to leave this thorough review. Unfortunately for us, the management staff of this building did not take the correct safety precautions to protect us or our living space during the repairs, resulting in our exposure to asbestos. The headache of living in this unkempt building and dealing with the cheap management company is not worth it!! The management staff onsite are friendly, but they are mismanaged, dishonest, and do not communicate with one another. They rarely answer the phone, never respond to emails, and the only way to talk to someone is by physically going down to the office. Our entire experience at the Mayflower was a complete nightmare! They should be ashamed of themselves for the way they treat their tenants and for the way they keep that building. Read below for more details but save yourself the stress by not living here!!! About a month in to living here, we realized the building was not as advertised: -The indoor pool was disgusting- it was never usable, not heated like we were told it would be, and the area always smelled like cigarette smoke. We were always being told "it will work in 2 weeks!" but it never did. We eventually learned from other tenants that the indoor pool hadn't worked for the last 2 years #falseadvertisement -The gym was also disgusting- it was never cleaned and never stocked with any cleaning wipes which is unsanitary, plus half the machines in there were broken or did not work. -The cleanliness of the common areas was pretty gross and not kept up with. There was always food and/ or trash on the floor in the halls, in the elevators and in the clubhouse. The building was also rarely secure and our packages were always missing. -The laundry machines were gross and growing mold, the elevators were always going out and communication to the residents about building maintenance was lacking. -Our apartment was also so infested with roaches- in our 7 months there, the building only came to spray for bugs once despite being charged for pest control each month. We had to get roach motels and roach spray to spray behind all our appliances in the kitchen- it was so gross. I expect some bugs by the beach, but not the amount we were seeing. The real issue for us was when our kitchen started flooding and water was coming up from under the floors. Because the building was built before 1981, there was an Asbestos Addendum in our lease, which stated there was the possibility that asbestos was used in the original construction. We understood that, but unfortunately for us, the management staff must not have and did not take this maintenance repair serious enough to follow proper safety protocols. Their maintenance person cut a hole in the cement wall in our kitchen, and cut 2 of the pipes out from behind the wall. There was no plastic sheeting hung up around the work area for protection, which resulted in a thick layer of dust getting all over everything in the apartment. The dust was so thick that we could not sit in our living area for days because you could taste the dust in the air- little did we know that this was airborne asbestos flying through the air from being disturbed by the construction. When I complained to the management staff and demanded that they put up plastic, they did not and told us they did not have any. My boyfriend and I ended up buying and hanging our own plastic sheeting to protect ourselves but it was too late at that point. When they finally had a certified plumber come out, within 20 minutes he told us he couldn't do any work because the pipes were covered in asbestos, and he would not perform the work while we were living in the space. We lived in this apartment without the use of our kitchen sink/ dishwasher, with wet kitchen floors for 39 days before moving out. While we understand it is an older building, our issues aren't with the building, but the way our situation was handled and the way this building is kept. It was pretty clear to us that the management company just wanted to take the cheap route and in doing so, they put our safety at risk. We were good tenants that paid our rent on time, and even during these repairs, we were as understanding as we could have been, but enough is enough. They have not taken accountability for the way they handled this situation and it has been the most unpleasant living experience I have ever had. I wish I had researched better before deciding to move to this place because all these reviews speak for themselves. Do you love roaches , algae covered pools, and constant water unavailability? Then Mayflower is for you ! My husband and i lived here for a dreadful 6 months and i have never lived in such a filthy, careless, and unorganized place in my life. We found roaches everywhere, flies in our fridge, the hot tub does not work, the pool is filled with algae, there were countless times the water wouldn't be working for over 24 hours and we'd have to go to our gym to shower, and management DOES NOT CARE. We had a plumbing issue and when we tried to get it fixed , they broke our sink completely and told us we'd have to wait months for replacements of parts. My husband is legally allowed to break leases for the navy and they charged him the next months rent when he was unable to live there anymore because he was getting deployed . DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! Beautiful community! I loved the customer service that I experienced with Nicole. She is incredibly professional and goes out of her way to make me feel at home. Mayflower may be an older building, however it's cozy and a landmark here on the East Coast. The community really makes me feel at home and it's always nice to be able to see the ocean on a daily basis. The staff here at Mayflower Apartments is completely professional and their hard work does not get unnoticed. They all deserve the best and a kind community helps with that. Within the last year the upgrades have improved tremendously and I appreciate the blood, sweat, and tears that maintenance puts up with. I as well as my friends visiting from out of town enjoyed the amenities here at Mayflower. The indoor and outdoor pools are always relaxing and crystal clean. The fitness center helps me stay in shape, and the large clubhouse is fun to gather with friends and the community. There are resident events where I enjoy meeting new like minded individuals. Mayflower has been an enjoyable place for me to reside at. I love my cute apartment and the view can't be beat. Mayflower used to be my personal paradise. Sure the rent is high but it WAS worth it for the amenities and distance to the beach. However Lynnd a company in texas took over. They act like slum lords. The Lynnd company has taken all of the ammenities away. The clubhouse just got a all new furniture then they sent it all back. The leasing office lies to ever new move in that we have year round pools firepits and much more. Those fire pits have not worked in 5 years. You cannot come and ho yo either pool as you please. Where are no landscapers so the outside is not well kept. They remodel one amenity ghen yhe owners argue and cuss loudly at each other and they tear it all out again. They give you a base rent price very afgordable. Then you get utilities, water sewer, gas( no gas appliances in any dwelling mind you), and that usually adds about $400-$500. They recently applied with the city zoning board to make some apartments air bnb but in reality they have already been renting those without permission all summer of 2020. Anyone has access to the building without a key 24/7. However the workers leave the doors propped open day and night. As well as the front door being broken. There were safety lights out in the garage. Next to my storage building it is pitch black at night.The elevator floor displays are broken which I believe is a code violation. It is normal to find several large roaches at any given time crawling in the basement. And the ceilings are falling through and covered in thick black mold in every unit on the 15th floor. The cleaning crew of 2 men are overwhelmed by the amount of work and the build stays disgustingly dirty for the most part. If I could give 0 stars I certainly would. DO NOT LIVE HERE. This is the worst apartment complex i have lived at in my entire life. 0/10 stars if i could. My packages are stolen from my doorstep almost every single time- I've resorted to sending them all to a friend. One person even opened a package containing my contacts with my name and address on it- returned it to my doorstep !clearly opened! with a note saying they in fact did not open it - i live amongst thieves. There are NO security cameras in the building except for the main entrances. The front desk frequently ignores calls during business hours. The building is old and infested with roaches, I disinfect once or twice a week and still seem to find them everywhere. I've found the front desk to be rude, unhelpful and difficult when addressing issues. I've had a leak from the ceiling above my shower since i moved in- 6 months ago. I guess since it's dripping into my shower it's not a concern to them. My toilet overflowed for no reason caused by myself. In the past 3 days water has leaked from my wall two times and "fixed". When they finally decided to call plumbers i was not notified until 30 minutes before- a woman asked me if they could gain entrance to my apartment- i asked them to please wait 2 hours for me to be home as i have valuables that i like to keep an eye on. i was told that she had worded it incorrectly- they were gaining access to my apartment whether i like it or not because it is "their building". I do not feel safe in my own home, i cannot order anything to my own home - an important feat during a pandemic - i must leave my house and risk my health with no concern on their behalf.
