After a very long day leaf peeping on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, we were too tired for a big, sit down dinner. We ended up picking up take out at Mayflower Chinese. This is obviously a family business with Mom on the register, Dad cooking and two well behaved children. I was impressed by the economy of motion and skill demonstrated by the chef. I tend not to exaggerate in reviews, so you can believe me when I say that the egg rolls were the best I've ever had. Fried dumplings tasted great, but their sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. My entre was Happy Family, which traditionally has several varieties of meat and vegetables in a brown sauce. It was a huge portion and delicious. My only regret is that they're 150 miles away. read more

My favorite Chinese Restaurant closed a few years ago, due to retirement. I've found other Chinese places that make do, but are really just substitutes. Good news, I have a new favorite Chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, it's a three hour drive away. Yes, it's truly a family affair, but I saw no sign of interference at all. I had an order of pot stickers that were incredible. The sauce was delicious and the dumplings were huge. While these are normally appetizers at some places, they were a meal for me. I also had egg rolls that just may be the best I've ever had. A generous serving of Won Ton soup was delicious, with the biggest Won Tons I've ever had, was included with our "over $20" order. My wife had Happy Family, and the serving was enormous. She said it was delicious. Along with that she brought an order of Sweet and Sour Soup home. She said she really enjoyed it. This place has gotten a couple of hard knocks, but I'd return in a heartbeat. If I'm in Utica again I'll definitely stop here. read more

I've decided to takeout all because I was lazy to cook for the night so I went in and first thing I saw was a family of four. Two kids are playing at the table and mom is at the register and dad is behind cooking. I mean it's nice to have family around but I think there's a time and place but they weren't that bothering like most people would say. I'm just glad a child didn't take my orders. You get a free soup for purchase over $20. This is a typical Chinese restaurant and it's next to big lots and the laundry and also right next Italian pizza place. It's not bad, but it's nice to have something close by when you've run of options and it's always popular to order Chinese. read more

This is the best Chinese food place we have found in the Utica/New Hartford area, and trust me we have tried a LOT of them and had some horrible food experiences. We order from Mayflower 1-3 times a month (sometimes once a week oops), and the food is always great. Customer service very friendly, you get free soup and spring rolls with combo meal too! read more

This place is your typical fast food chinese spot. The food is descent. My only complaint is the young kid (has to be around 11/12 y/o) that works there. He is EXTREMELY RUDE! When I order lunch from there on occasion, the people take my order with no problem and a smile on their face. If I go during the hours he is around (usually evenings and weekends), I have to deal with his rudeness. I think they make him take the orders b/c he speaks English more fluently. I prefer to deal with the older woman and man that work there as opposed to him. read more

This place is small but the flavor is huge! Their steamed dumplings are an awesome sidekick to a main course. They certainly do not skimp on portions either. If you are on a budget, but what great food, then this is a great place to check out. The only thing I did not like was the fact that a little kid was behind the counter. read more
