Mayo killed my grandpa. They also charge people 340 dollars for a wrist xray with health insurance. 0/10 would not recommend at all!

My wife was transferred to austin hospital from the albert lea er i spent all afternoon and evening try ing to get ahold of a nurse or anyone that could tell me her condition. Its now 10 ;30 and no one is answering the phones. the operator isn't able to get anyone to call this is inexcusable i have never been this mad in my whole life.I AM WORRIED SICK AND THIS HOSPITAL SHOULD BE TORN DOWN read more

I received a very low level of care when I was dealing with Period pain. I was told that my pain is simply because I'm "getting older". I was told this at age TWENTY ONE! And said this pain started becoming awfu as early as NINETEEN! A Teenager! So old right? 21 and 19 is not old, even in the world of fertility. 35 is considered medically old for fertility purposes but this was ridiculous. I went to a different hospital, found out I have endometriosis on my ovaries and multiple other organs as well as extreme hormonal imbalances. Who knew all of the extreme pain is from a disease and not caused by the old age of being 21. Not only that, but these delays only make this disease worse and worse which is a shame. This is going to affect my chances of having a future family. I got married young at 22 and thought I was on a good track of having a family but it turns out I probably will never get to. Because I am now a 23 yr old senior citizen might as well move in the nursing home now. Funny but not really. read more

Went into the ER Dec 2017, saw Dr. Paris for less than 15 minutes ended up with a bill of $657.27. Told them to file with my insurance in January when i got the original bill, and received the same bill again today that is passed due, again not filed with my insurance, but they were able to update my address when i called to have them file with my insurance. During my visit, i was i forgotten in my room by the staff for an hour. Dr. Paris came in for 2 minutes to apologize and told me they had forgotten about me and they were going to get my out soon. I then had to remind my nurse of orders that Dr. Paris had put into their system because they were going to send me home without giving the medication that was ordered. I emailed EUMCHSPatientExperience@mayo.edu and hope to get an answer to why i have to pay more than my co-pay. read more

Would be less than one star, if possible! This place is the absolute worst. My mom had to go in for an emergency 45 minute gallbladder surgery and we heard nothing until we hunted down a wandering nurse who did not want us to be waiting in the patient's room. We were supposed to be "in the waiting room". Once we found someone with somewhat of a pulse, we were taken to ICU where she was being sent to recover from the surgery. Throughout the 2 1/2 hour wait, the different nurses did the - "I don't know, we haven't received report yet. You know, sometimes things take a little longer". Mind you, the nurse failed to even pick up a phone to check but stood there and looked around like it was her first time in the unit. I would recommend finding Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman prior to stepping foot in this place. We were not allowed to be with her while she recovered but had to wait in a 150 degree waiting room and watch Ridiculousness only to be forgotten again. So much for quality care from Mayo!! read more

If you live in Austin, Minnesota, and you get sick or hurt, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else but here. These people over charge for everything and sometimes double charge. They will nickel and dime you to death! And when you try to contact billing over your lunch break (they are only open 8 to 5, when most of us are at work), they put you on hold for most of the break and you still don't get a straight answer as to why you're being charged so damn much. This place really deserves no stars and the staff should be brought up on criminal charges for the absurd amount they charge patients. They charged over $100 when I went to see the doctor about neck pain, even though I was only in there with him for about five minutes. Then they double charged my insurance for an x-ray and I have yet to hear the explanation as to why they did that. read more

Facilities - Clean and modern Staff - Friendly, knowledgeable, and beyond reproach Level of care - Top notch My grandfather was visiting and ended up in the hospital for 5 days. He was in the ER and then in the ICU. The staff in both departments were amazing, as well as any staff that came in contact with him from janitorial to nutrition. There was a lot of family members that were in and out throughout his visit and each time, the staff would carefully explain the situation and answer any questions they could. At no point did they seem annoyed they had to explain things for the 10th time. My grandpa said the meals were better than expected. Additionally, the ER doctor decided to conduct a CT scan prior to prescribing him a medication because she was concerned that if he had a blood clot in his lungs, the medication would make that worse. Sure enough, there was a blood clot there. I believe her forward thinking to look at the patient as a whole and not just treat the problem at hand saved my grandfather's life. While it was unfortunate he had to go to the hospital, it was a blessing that it was here. My family and I also go here for all our routine care and we only have excellent things to say about our doctors and their teams. I have heard negative comments from people about Mayo-Austin, but in all the years I've been a patient, I have no idea what they are talking about. read more

For various reasons I have had reason to visit the ER at this hospital. For an ER they are very fast and you don't have to wait for hours to get in. Upon entering the ER you are greeted by a receptionist and a nurse. The nurse is there to over hear the conversation and to decide if you require immediate attention or if you can wait in the waiting room till a spot is available. The staff is very thorough and knowledgeable. Up to now Mayo/ Austin ER seems to be doing a very good job. read more

I've had many poor experiences at Austin's Mayo Clinic. My last visit I was informed by my psychiatrist that I will have to go somewhere else for care. Any decent doctor who's worth their wages will inevitably leave in search of a tolerable work environment. They will no longer have any psychiatrists working at the Austin clinic. Apparently they are overworked and under-staffed. Patients are forced to lower their expectations because of corporate policies and insurance companies who dictate the level of care patients receive. Doctors don't have any input or executive decision ultimately. It comes down to disconnected policy and greedy insurance companies. read more

The nurses in the ICU are awesome. My grandma was in for a few days and they were on top of things with her. An added bonus they brought us delicious cookies when we were staying overnight keeping an eye on our grandma. read more

I have psoriatic arthritis now due to the psoriasis. I've been in massive pain for ten years+ because they constantly (mostly California) misdiagnosed it. So I went to pain management Dr in Austin Minnesota (Dr Jennifer Gains), they refuse to give any opioid medication literally unless your dying of cancer or something, so I got an epidural (shot of pain medication that releases over time into spinal column) I specifically told her how badly I respond to any type of steroid, it makes the plaque psoriasis better for a very short period, then comes back 100× worse. She said, its fine, its not that kind of steroid. Then I developed plaques everywhere, far worse than any time in my life, on my palms and bottom of feet, making it beyond difficultto do literally anything, suffering and in extreme pain constantly, like a horrible sunburn that keeps cracking and bleeding...she still said they could do nothing for my pain except for anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen. I had a new doctor given to me,no warning and in the first 5 minutes he talked of changing 1 of my meds.I have been on 6 yrs. and doing great this doctor didn't even know me.The doctor thought I had insurance so not much reading of my file was ever done.One of the ladies who helps with insurance gave me a letter saying she thought I would have no problem getting insurance,WRONG.So I'm a little disheartened about the whole thing. read more
