I went to Mazatlan Restaurant and it was honestly really good. The chips, salsa, and queso came out fast and tasted fresh, and the portions were huge for the price. The staff were super nice and kept checking on drinks and chips the whole time. The atmosphere feels casual and comfortable, so it's a good place to go with family or friends. I have been eatting at Mazatlans for four decades. It is still a comfy place to eat good food at a reasonable price. Food and service is good. I like to get their tamales by the dozen (fresh or frozen) to take home for Xmas holidays! Wide selection of Tex Mex on the menu for both meat eatters and vegetarians. Margaritas are yummy too. Salsa is obviously your first impression of a place and I was nervous about the food bc the salsa wasn't good. Luckily the food was good! While on the rode wanted to try some Tex Mex. From Yelp reviews this looked good. Madison was our waitress and took great care of us. Chips and queso are served when you sit down. My husband and I frequently order delivery from Mazatlan. The food is good, but quality and service is very inconsistent. While we stick to the same meal - combo fajitas for two with large chips and queso, what we receive is rarely the same. Sometimes we get both flour and corn tortillas as we request, sometimes we only get one of the two. Tonight, we only received combo fajitas for one, and as we waited for the restaurant to correct their mistake, part of our order grew cold. They were not willing to do anything for recompense other than a small queso with extra chips. Chips and canned queso does not make up for cold food and waste of consumer time. read more

Oh, how I have such a nostalgic, beautiful feeling for this place. I was recently in Denton for a conference and stopped in. It stuck in my memory from the brief time that I lived there, and I'm so glad I did. Back then I was just out of my folks house, and on a night when I had "a little extra money," I had to go to this spot. A beer and some tacos. A step up from the fast food. Don't let my precious statement fool you. It's not expensive or fancy. However, it is so delicious. If you are familiar with Tex-Mex, it's that classic yellow cheese queso, refried beans and rice. In this instance, however, it's a spectacular mix of sodium and complex flavors. What stole the show for me was the brisket tacos (see my photos). Where post Tex-Mex inserts a BBQ taco or a poor imitation of a Birria Taco, this spot provides you a delicious lean beef almost swimming in au jous without being too wet (somehow). I cannot say enough for the flavor, either. If you are in Denton you may be tempted to hit the chains, or the heavily advertised El Matador, but drive past it for this place. It's mid-afternoon on a Monday in July. The lunch crowd is gone, and the waitstaff are downright pleasant. Mazatlan is definitely worth a visit and more. The vibe felt as comfortable as home. We ordered snacks and lunch plates. Basics and beer were needed after a long flight. Queso, salsa, cheese enchiladas, tacos, and all the trimmings were excellent. Anything that got left behind was due to no room in our bellies (a sadness.) Tex-Mex: it's the stuff of Texicans in all parts of Texas. My first thought on arrival was confusion as the site plan of the restaurant took me back in time to Campo Verde in Arlington. But, this was Mazatlan and my first visit. The beans and rice were really tasty which is how I judge a Mexican food spot. It's been forever since I've had a good relleno and I was so happy to come here for theirs. It was fresh made, not frozen and even slightly charred the way you're supposed to when making them at home to give them that nice smoky flavor. The charro beans and rice were delicious as well as the tamale. I will just be sure to ask for it without the chili next time. Wonderful service but the food is honestly pretty bland. I'm not sure why this place has such high ratings. The queso that comes with the chips is bland. The tacos were rather bland as were the rice and the charro beans are really refried beans in a cup. The beans are Not as bland as the other foods, but not great either. The servers are very friendly. I just find the food unseasoned and tasteless. I would prefer to go to Chuys instead in Denton. Just in my opinion. To each their own. Warning: while I was placing a to-go order (while looking at the website,) mid-July 2021, the hostess informed me when I asked about an item listed in a Family-style item that one non-trivial component was no longer included, and that "since the new owner" they had not "been able" to update the website, which, when she told me my total bill, it surprisingly also included a 20% price increase. The pick-up order itself was complete, well and safely packaged, and hot. The family fajitas were very good, but neither the queso nor the salsa/hot sauce were. This is honestly one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I don't just mean Mexican restaurants, I don't just mean restaurants in Denton - I quite literally mean ever. First of all, the food is exceptionally good. I've never been disappointed by dish. Just as important (or even more so to me!), the service is top notch. There's a number of workers constantly rotating around making sure you never go dry on your drinks or salsa, whether they're your server or not. Atmosphere is family friend and pleasant. We moved away from Texas to North Carolina 7 years ago and have not found any Mexican food worth a darn. The staff at Mazatlan was very warm and welcoming. Portions were very large and the food was amazingly good. We dined with our teen and pre-teen grandsons who can picky eaters and they cleaned their plates.
