Allen R Horne Funeral Home has had some major changes since my last review, enough to justify an…read moreupdate. Ownership has changed and it is now run by the owner of the Bunnell Funeral Home's in Bloomsburg and Millville. The funeral home sits alongside a rural road in the country outside of Catawissa. Entrance to the building now varies with the size of the funeral, it can either be in the original back entrance or the new handicap accessible entrance that has been built in front of the building. The parking lot can become quite crowded if it's a larger funeral. Due to some rearrangement and changes in placements, seating has been increased for the family with the addition of a few dozen seats. Interior still holds about fifty seats for mourners, with room for twenty additional people standing. The interior is simple and dim. I would describe it as if you were going to your grandparent's house in many ways; older style furniture sits against the back and sides for people who can't sit comfortably in the wood folding chairs. It can get a bit warm inside if there's a larger funeral. The carpeting has been completely replaced as part of the recent changes. The people here really do a good job in your time of mourning. Everything was beautifully prepared for the funeral; they take the time to make sure they know about the person's life. Funeral was nothing but smooth making it an easier time for everyone involved. They do a great job at making the situation about as well as it can be.

there are no words that can really describe this experience.. When we first walked into meet Petey…read more.. My grandparents had mentioned something about having plans premade to the other funeral home up the road And were worried because they had made plans and prepaid and the other place was closing. So they were unsure of what to do.. mind you they had just lost their daughter.. And Petey was very rude to them.. It was actually quite shocking with the way he spoke to them...about planning with a different funeral home. (Yes, it was careless of them to bring up making plans with a different funeral home but the director of this funeral home that we were out handled it very inappropriately and unprofessionally) And what shook me to my core was the way he treated my father when he walked in and had nothing to do with the conversation prior to... My father just lost his best friend in the entire world. His partner in life who had spent over 44 years with... Very sudden notice very unexpected of a heart attack.. A woman who took care of herself and her family who never drank or did drugs.. At the age of 66 passed away very abruptly.. I was hesitant to make this post, but you know life is short and I want to let everyone know exactly how we were treated. My dad is the sweetest person I've ever met in my life, other than my grandfather and grandmother.. They've always been kind and loving.. And to see the way, they were treated right in front of me at this funeral home on one of the worst days of our lives shook me to my core and I don't know how I withheld my words that I would love to have said to Petey on that day.. The way he spoke to my father, especially when he had just got done crying in his car.. Questioning him rudely and in such a degrading manner, why he chose that funeral parlor and why he decided to go with peppers... when truly it was the only one near where we were burying her.. That we knew of.. I wish we had just walked out and went somewhere else.. I tried not to escalate things, and my father tried to de-escalate the situation with his kindness, even though he was going through one of the worst experiences of his life.. we should've never had to experience that. I've never wanted to smack somebody in the face more than I did that day... But I chose to keep the peace and keep my mouth shut, even though I could hear my heart beating through my eyeballs. And on top of it all .. They didn't even do my mother's make up and she had blue lips Looked absolutely horrendous on the day she was buried.. Which was just the icing on top of the cake That we were forced to endure.. Never again will I ever give that man any business I would rather rot on the sidewalk then be buried Using that horrendous company. I hear all these good things about other people going through other funeral homes where they were completely Wonderful and they made the process a whole lot better and they were empathetic and cared about the people. I had never had to go through this process before... But I know the next time I have to go through it it will be through a different place of business. You should absolutely be ashamed of yourself petey and i hope that karma finds its way to you. I wish I had said what I wanted to that day and that we had just and Gone somewhere else.. My husband and the husbands of my mother's daughters Had to hold back what they wanted to do bc we did not want to escalate anything. and he is very lucky for that.

I thought hard before writing this review. I wanted to think it over to make sure I was not the…read moreinstigator in anyway. I absolutely was not. My father past in June of 2019. We went to Pepper Funeral Home to have them handle everything. This is because they handled my mother services 10 years prior. Things have changed a lot in that time. P.D. Pepper seemed that he was growing more and more frustrated with every question my sister asked. They were basic questions. What do they do for the fees that we pay? Could we get an itemized list? And so on. I stayed positive and moved everything forward. Fast forward to today. We finally received the headstone and it was missed marked. When we reached out to Peppers. 2 days went by without a response. I emailed asking if there was anyway we could get a response to our question. P.D. was more or less contact the VA it is not their responsibility. My reply was "So being that you were the one that we ordered this from you're not responsible for insuring that it is correct? Other then helping us with the grieving process. One of the reasons we chose Pepper's and paid the fees that were paid was to insure that things were done correctly. Here it is a year later and we feel like I'm real living this event. What I need to know if what does Pepper's plan to do to correct this issue?" P.D. Then asked me to call him. When I called he just tore into me. Told me all the things he did like it was a favor to us. Again it wasn't. We paid him for those services. Which he forgotten to apply for benefits and had to be reminded to do so. He even went as low as saying next time take your parents someplace else. What a sick individual would say that to some one who is grieving specially a funeral home director. I had enough at that point and hung up. A minute later he called me back. I didn't give him a chance to talk at first. I told him how he treated me was absolutely ridiculous. I started to tell him how a person of business would have handled the situation. He than began mocking me by saying what I was saying word for word. I called him out on it and said I'm at the point were I am starting to get upset. Then he said "because you are a big man" and hung up. Who the hell acts like this?
