The Hall houses the mayor's office, town planning, fire department admin and Boone County Senior Services. The building is modern and spacious inside. Conference rooms of all sizes can be reserved for resident meetings. I have reserved the largest conference room for a Non-Profit that I belong. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The restrooms are large and clean. There is a nice patio area with flowers and a Thin Man statue on the east side of the facility. There is plenty of parking in their dedicated lot. The facility is fully accessible included close handicapped spaces. The Town Hall is used for several community activities including area foot races.

Although there has been some art added to the town hall area and to Main Street in the old town section, Dahlia City is the first utility box to be authorized by the town for a themed painted mural. Earlier in 2019, local artist Cynthia Young had painted the Walking Man at the town hall. So, since she did such a fine job there, she was selected for the first utility box on the southeast corner of 106th and Zionsville Road. The theme was Dahlia City, a name that Zionsville was known by in the 1930's when there were two dahlia farms in the area. In 1933, the gold medal at the World's Fair was given to "Zion's Pride", a dahlia from one of the farms. A nearby street is also named Dahlia, so the location seemed a good choice for the artist's rendition of the flower (in golden yellow) on a deep blue background. The words "Dahlia City" appear on the west panel facing Zionsville Road. As a fan of art in unexpected places, I enjoy finding these art pieces, no matter how temporary they may be due to accident or weathering. Great job Zionsville. I'll keep watching for the next one! Bargersville, Indiana is a relatively small town located in Johnson County with a population just…read moreunder 10,000 during the 2020 census, though it's estimated to be close to 11,000 now. Bargersville is considered to be one of the fastest growing communities in the state. The town was platted in 1850. As Katherine A. notes, it is named after Jefferson Barger. Bargersville is really ideally situated. It's close to Indy and surprisingly close to both Bloomington and Columbus. It's a small town that still feels like a small town, though it's got a lot of urban benefits. Bargersville has two strong school systems - Center Grove and Franklin. What are some can't miss stops here? Taxman Brewery is a winner as is Mallow Run Winery. Coffeehouse Five is excellent. Witt Park is terrific for those who like parks. The same is true for Windisch Park. Bargersville has a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area), which basically means you can drink in public (don't drink and drive or get wasted, okay?). There's one good trail that I'm aware of - the Heritage Trail. I'm not sure on exact length, but it's for the most part flat and I'd say easily doable for those with mobility issues like myself. The downtown area is a cool mixture of small restaurants and shops. It's a historic district. As someone who enjoys seeing silos, this farming community definitely has them. Whenever I'm downtown, I'm also impressed with the people. As there are older buildings, I occasionally have some wheelchair issues but I've generally found folks willing to help here. I don't get to Bargersville as much as I used to, but when I decide to do a Johnson County jaunt Bargersville is always a stop.

Bargarsville is named after Jefferson Bargar who bought one of the first plots of land in the area…read morein 1860. One of the states first plank roads was laid between Franklin and Bargarsville and is now State Road 144 (but is still referred to on some maps as Old Plank Road). When the rail passed one mile west of Bargarsville in 1906, the town moved to its current location (along the railroad tracks). Bargarsville has been traditionally a farming community. Large grain silos still frame the downtown skyline. I've been visiting the town regularly for 20 years. The town, once known for its weekend flea market and antique shops has evolved. The flea market closed several years ago and a high-end, local brewery (Taxman) is now a cornerstone of town. Several nice restaurants service downtown. A remarkably well-equipped park opened last year just west of town. Several large housing additions have popped-up, giving the town a more suburban feel. The main draws today, are the restaurants or a drive through beautiful farmland.

(Which I recommend reading). This superb piece of art is hidden on the side of the town hall building adjacent to the rail trail, greeting hikers as they pass. Zionsville doesn't have much art, so the Walking Man is a great start. Unpretentious, quiet, serene, he stands decorated in maps of Zionsville. He is surrounded by a little courtyard with benches. There is plenty of parking near him. Bravo, Zionsville!

The Walking Man sculpture has done a lot of traveling over time. As part of an original temporary…read moreshow in Anderson in 2012, sculptor Levi Rinker created over 2 dozen of these 10' tall figures. After the exhibit ran its course, many were auctioned off. Quite a few of them have ended up along the rail trail that runs through Boone County, including this one in Zionsville. Located just east of the new Town Hall, the sculpture was originally left in a basic white paint...a blank surface for each community to decorate however the towns wanted. Finally, in 2019, Hoosier artist Cynthia Young was selected to paint the figure. She chose to recreate a map of the Zionsville Trail system on the body of the Walking Man. So, not only does the figure have relevance to the nearby trail, it is a symbol of moving forward (which Zionsville hopes to project). Carmel has a dang cute selfie station on Elm Street just east of the Monon. The mural looks like a…read more1960's postcard and stamps with scenes from around Carmel. There is even a mark on the sidewalk to tell you where to stand to take your selfie. This is one of several selfie spots that I saw in the area. I used to call the area downtown Carmel, but the City has rebranded as "Midtown" and Midtown Plaza. The colorful mural was the brainchild of Wilkinson Brothers Design and was unveiled in March 2021.

This mural gives the appearance of a vintage post card and reads "Greetings from Carmel, Midtown Plaza". There are scenes from the city in the cutout letters that include the Monon Trail, Sails, the Coxhall Gardens Clock Tower and City Hall. The card is against a colorful cityscape background cutout with other cityscape silhouettes on it. You will also see stamps of local attractions around the area on the mural including Hotel Carmichael and the Palladium. It is a gorgeous mural that is Instagram ready. The city intends it to be an interactive piece that affords visitors the opportunity to take a selfie. To make sure that visitors get the best possible selfie, there is a decal that tells you where to stand. It is located just outside Java House Coffee Bar and Penn & Beech Candle Co. I love interactive art. This mural is no exception. I was excited about seeing it and I am sure it will be a popular attraction in the area. I will say that it is off of a somewhat busy street, so use caution when approaching. There is free street parking and a garage available to park within a very short walk. I know that this is probably not going to be a long stop, but I still recommend checking it out. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip such as the Monon Trail or the Sails sculpture that is right down the street.
