Cheap food and lots of it for the price! As far as kebab vans go this is convenient and close to Tom Gate.

It is a couple of minutes from the railway and bus stations and a few from the town centre. car parking less than a couple of quid. it is famous for showing new work but is the home of writer John Godber. I have taken family and friends and parties from youth centres and laughed ourselves silly at plays like Bouncers . A lot of famous people have played there including Sunday one man shows with people like Mike Harding. They now have coffee and cake matinees too. it is pretty cheap for professional theater at £10.50 to £16.50 a ticket. (concessions available too) and half that for matinees. There are cheap rates for groups of 10+ and cheap standby tickets if you just turn up. I found the opening hours: Monday-Friday 11am - 8pm Performance days 11am - 5pm Non-Performance days Saturday 1pm - 8pm (Performance days only) Sunday 5.30pm - 7.30pm (Performance days only) This is a really great night out and has been compared to, and said to be better than, fringe.

Hull Truck Cafe - Michelin star quality food in a casual setting…read more At the front of the Hull Truck Theatre, nestled in the hustle and bustle of the City streets, lies the Hull Truck Cafe. It appeals to a variety of patrons from the young and shabby chic to the more adventurous and refined palettes. Strangely casual would be the correct epithet to describe the surroundings, and I was pleasantly surprised by my visit there. I admit, I had been expecting a mediocre meal with a small selection of cheap wines, but I was in for a massive surprise. They say time flies when you're having fun. Guess what? Time flies even faster when you're eating one of the top ten meals you have ever had the pleasure of tucking into on a cold and rainy day. Upon arrival, we changed tables three times; The leather-chaired tables were too low for eating, the one by the window was too drafty, but the third one was just right. The menu was very unpretentious and the specials looked amazing. They even have a soup of the day (today was potato and leek - my favourite) and both Amara and I sat back and watched in awe and admiration as the food from previous orders came out. We saw everything from the most amazing sandwiches (stacked incredibly high with amazing ingredients), jacket potatoes with numerous fillings to Eggs Benedict (properly done) being served. Now let's get to the more interesting part of this review; the FOOD. I have travelled extensively throughout the United States, United Kingdom and across the world, dining at some of the best restaurants money can buy, and was literally taken aback by the amazing quality of food. I can only review what I have eaten today, and will now try to walk you through my culinary experience. My meal: The Steak and Ale Pie The Pastry: At first inspection, the pastry looked average yet home-made. Once I pierced my fork through its outer crust, the layers of flaky perfection crumbled throughout and fell apart like thinly wafers of soft amber glass waiting to be devoured. I immediately presumed that they had their own pastry chef, as pasty that good does not come without years of dedication and experience, but indeed they do not. I shall talk about the lovely chef later in this review. The Steak: Having had every type of meat possible, from grass-fed beef to Venezuelan steak, I was already familiar with how outstanding good beef can become if treated well. As it turns out, the steak and ale pie was one of the best meals that I have ever had. It was tenderer than any other steak I have experienced in a pie, with an unexpected depth of flavour, it rivalled the quality of some of the top-dollar, triple-digit meals that I have had in downtown New York City, London or even in Portugal. It was that good. I was convinced it was beef brisket, but the chef later assured me that it was locally-sourced chuck steak that had been slow cooked. Cooked to perfection, I say! The Twice-Cooked Chunky Chips: Now the menu does not reveal that these are twice-cooked, but anyone who has ever had the experience of something so devilishly delicious will know the difference, and these were magnificent. Much to my joy, they were not pre-seasoned or salted. I prefer to do that myself. The Roasted Vegetables: Drizzled with a slight bit of honey, these were roasted to perfection. Just crispy enough to bite into, yet fully cooked and incredibly delicious. The Shot of Ale: Yes, a shot of ale. The meal comes with its very own shot glass full of ale as accompaniment, seeing as it is the same ale that the pie is cooked with. What a splendid idea! Amara's meal: Honey-Glazed Chorizo with Goats Cheese Risotto: I have to admit that I am not a big fan of risotto, but this may have changed me. I do love chorizo, and these had a slight tinge of honey to them, complimenting the goat's cheese and tantalising my taste buds, daring me to have just a bit more. The "side" Caesar Salad: Literally the largest side salad I have ever seen. Complete with greens, a full chicken breast, poached egg, a fresh anchovy, homemade croutons and dressing and the most divine pan-fried smoked pancetta, I could have easily had this on its own. The Service: We had a great waitress who was happy to cater to our every whim, but did not pester us. Finding the right balance between the two is a very hard thing to do, and she has it down to an art. The portions were large, and the staff were more than happy to put everything into small containers for us to take home - a major positive in my eyes. The Prices: I was surprised that the prices are very reasonable. Our full meal, complete with drinks, was around £22. Looking back, I paid something similar for a meal at a pub recently, and the quality was nowhere near as good as at the Hull Truck Cafe. The Wine List: The wine list is surprisingly better than average, with a selection of House wines as well as champagne. I was also happy to see a good bottle of Rioja on

The interior is fairly modern, the window seats have nice views of the shopping centre below, and there's mainly comfortable seating, although I do think the overall size is just not adequate, considering this is the only Starbucks in the city centre that isn't in the train station, so it does get very busy. I ordered a Venti Iced PSL via the mobile app, there was a reasonably long wait for my drinks, and the waiting area felt very cramped, but they were busy. My drink tasted good and was up to a reasonable standard, although it did cost a little more than usual as this is a franchise location, it worked out 40 p more compared to a corporate-owned store, this can add up if you visit a lot and buy multiple drinks. Due to being located inside the shopping centre, they do close fairly early at 7 pm, the only other Starbucks nearby would be located inside the train station, but even then they're only open until 8 pm and don't accept Starbucks cards for payment. 3* - Decent Starbucks, yet very busy. Definitely could do with an extra store in the city centre to take the load of this one, which will likely make the experience better across the board.

I visited this place on Saturday and ordered a Greek salad and portion of Calamari. Initially, I…read morewas really impressed with the food, although the salad was quite oily, the calamari was really fresh and well prepared. Or so I thought. As I was finishing my calamari, I found a long fair hair in my last piece of squid. I showed it to the young man serving us, who was almost blank in response and didn't seem to be aware that he ought to do something beyond apologise. I asked him to see what his manager felt should be done to make amends and another member of staff was sent to deal with me. Initially, she offered me a drink and a dessert, but I felt really sick by this point so the idea of eating more there was nauseating. I was then offered half my money back apparently, 'because I had finished my meal' they would only offer me half my money back. The fact that the entire meal was ruined and felt very ill was lost on her. The intimation appeared to be that I was trying it on, although clearly this hair did not belong to anyone sat at my table, so I think they believe I found a hair, had my fill of food and then decided to complain! What a lovely opinion of me these people had! The member of staff serving us denied that hair in the food suggested poor kitchen hygiene, but if the staff took appropriate measures it would not have been in my lunch and I would not have spent the next three hours feeling sick (this was, in part, due to the oil on the salad too). In the end, despite my protests, £6.50 was thrust at me and that was what. I hadn't realised when I had been offered half it was only half the price of a started and not the full amount I had spent there. I only spent £15 and it was a very busy service, so they more than made enough to cover this. Instead, they have tried to prove a point and put me off ever returning. I tried to raise the issue on their Facebook page, but after trying to accuse me of lying again (of trying to claim the money for all three meals, which I did not do) they deleted my post. Yet, they claim they have great customer service and good hygiene standards. Had the staff handled my complaint better, I would not be going out of my way to criticise this establishment, but it was very poor and they have antagonised me so much I feel I need to warn others.
