Very negligent in cases with history of abuse/dv. These court "professionals" only care about their pockets. They will downplay if a parent is abusing or bullying the other. They never seem to be around during escalations but are always being recommended by family court. read more

I would leave negative stars if I could. Two years after the last review and it appears she has the same methods. Please please please save yourself time, money and heartache and do not go to her for a child custody evaluation. I have no idea how she is an MFT. She is a disgrace of a therapist. She has no skills or ethics. I was the primary parent and never tried to take our child from his father. He attacked me from the start and deflected and she sided with him. It is clear she is paid off by certain parties. Her reports are biased and lazy. She is inconsistent and contradicts herself. I had concerns after researching her but this was the only way I could afford the evaluation. If you use her beware whoever has more money will be presented much better. All jokes aside. Don't do it. I'm also a working professional with a decent career. She didn't care. If you care about your children. Go elsewhere. Work it out with the child's other parent. Take out a loan. Hire a homeless person! Anything is better than her. Our kids are our lives. Don't place that in her hands. read more

I cannot caution you enough against using the services of Wendy McCraney-Matz. Unlike others here, I don't think she's taking money or being bribed. That would require a level of sophistication she just doesn't have. (And unlike others here, I was not on the receiving end of a bad evaluation. We came to her for help and we got the opposite.) What I can tell you is that her level of selfish indifference, clumsy care, and overall obliviousness to the downstream effect of her incompetence would be alarming if she was a plumber. Unfortunately she has the entire fate of families in her hands, which makes her total negligence catastrophic for the parents and children that unwittingly walk through her door. She will leave your family 100 times worse than when she found you, acknowledge it, and then stare at you blankly. Imagine handing the blueprints for your house to a contractor, who proceeds to put the upstairs downstairs and the downstairs upstairs, then shrugs his shoulders when confronted and says, "I suppose I could be more transparent." Now imagine it's not your house, but your kids. Imagine it is their whole lives at stake. I've learned that therapists are no different than any other profession. Some are great, most are average, and some are bad. Wendy is emphatically at the deep end of this "bad" range. Unfortunately the family court system is a closed system in Monterey County and she is fed business regardless of her incompetence. My children will suffer scars from her for the rest of their lives. Wendy McCraney-Matz is the epitome of the "unconscious incompetent" and I beg you to avoid her and seek out literally anyone else. We had a very similar experience to the other two reviews. It is very clear that this woman has some serious biases and questionable ethics. We also joked that she must have been paid-off by the opposing party's attorneys. However, it quickly became increasingly less funny - as a result of her "findings" and "recommendations," we have spent nearly $200,000 in unnecessary legal fees, additional evaluations, therapy, child support and more. Every meeting with her was excruciating, as she was neither kind nor open to listen to anything contradictory to what she already believed. We never stood a chance from the beginning - no matter how open and honest we were, even with mountains of evidence to back up our every word. She simply didn't like us, didn't believe us, and made no effort to conceal it. We are both proud, upstanding, educated and contributing members of this community, who lead meaningful careers and volunteer often. Yet, she consistently treated us like criminals! Wendy DOES NOT possess the skills, education, experience and ETHICAL training required for the type of decisions she's making for families and children all over this county. It breaks my heart to think of all of the unnecessary pain and hardship caused by her poor choices. read more

This is one of the worst evaluators I have ever known. She did her evaluations as though she got paid under the table in favor of the other party. Her conclusions are incomplete. She doesn't even deserve a 1 star, but it won't let me post with at least 1 star. I would alert anyone thinking of using her services to NOT DO SO. Your wasting your money! read more
