McCray installed the HVAC systems in our relatively new subdivision. After this hard winter, we scheduled a maintenance check on both our heating and cooling systems. So glad we did! Their office was able to schedule an appointment promptly. They followed up with text and email confirmations and updates on the arrival of the assigned technician. Daniel B, the technician, also followed up before his arrival. He arrived as scheduled and went straight to work. He was very professional and knowledgeable and took the time to explain what actions he had taken and what he recommended for us to do in the future. We are confident that we are prepared for the coming spring and summer weather and then into next winter. We will definitely follow up with an annual check up. read more

Scheduling an appointment was easy. A technician came, and the estimate was promised within 1-3 days. 10 days later, still nothing. I wouldn't complain or judge McCrea's price, even if I got it; I can't judge their cost model. But at least have the respect for the customers who rearranged their schedules and spent time with you, and whom you promised to help. read more

I started with Home Depot to buy and have a new heat pump installed. Home Depot assigned the work to McCrea. In January we had McCrea install a new heat pump. All seemed well. However, when the air conditioning was turned on in May, water began dripping from our ceiling. McCrea dispatched a tech who determined they had not glued the condensate line. In the beginning of June McCrea contracted the repair to a handyman service. The repair was made on June 2 but they could not match the paint. This began a 3 1/2 month battle to have the ceiling repainted. The ceiling was first repainted only to have it look worse and also result in paint splatter on the wall. The final repaint was not completed until Sep 23. Throughout this process McCrea involvement was minimal. They would not return phone calls, and there was no evidence of senior management involvement, and I was forced to deal directly with their subcontractor who by now was not the same contactor who had made the initial repair. Even though all work has now been completed McCrea has not reviewed it nor have they followed up to see if I was satisfied. read more

Horrible customer service, supposed to get a service call between 10 and 1 today, it's after 3 and still no tech; called at 1:15, office lady said she would call me with an update; no callback at 1:45, called again and she said she left a message and they should be there in a half hour; checked my phone, no message was left; called again at 3 after no one showed up, and nobody could tell me anything, asked for a supervisor, they said he was in a meeting. Still sitting here with no information. read more

I would run fast and far before calling them. I have been a customer since I moved here 5 years ago. They actually installed the systems in our new construction town homes. I paid upfront for the service contract every year which is supposed to get you priority service and maintenance on the system. Unfortunately the outside unit that needs cleaning from grass clippings that gather inside the unit and will eventually choke the compressor was never done. It wasn't even offered as an extra charge. My unit was constantly running and I called to get the outside unit cleaned and they said they don't do that. I called back a service manager and they told me that this time of the year they have too many service calls to perform that service. I am sure they would have less calls if the units were cleaned properly. Found a different HVAC company that came out the next day and performed that service and my unit is running like brand new. I would give no stars but it won't let you post without choosing one. read more

My wife and I purchased a central air unit for our first floor and two Mitsubishi wall units on our 2nd floor. After installing our upstairs bedroom wall unit they left a hole in my closest that I could see the outside pathway next to our house. I talked to them through email and text for a few months asking when they'd send someone out to fix it, they never did. Instead my father and I did it ourselves. After installing our central air unit in the basement they put in a small drain line and drilled through the side of my house. I figured they'd caulk it, make sure my basement was sealed against the elements. Never happened. Multiple times over the years I have had to contact this company for issues with the unit they installed in the basement, every time I get the same receptionist. Don't know her name, but every time we speak she makes me want to bang my head against the wall. I try to explain the problem, and she would argue with me over it being the trap clogged. I'd tell her it wasn't, we snaked the line multiple times and never got anything. Well that's what the problem is and it's going to be 109.99 for someone to come out and fix it. Guy gets out here and guess what? Whoever cut the pvc pipe that connects to our pump didn't angle the cut, it was flush against the bottom of the basin and was suctioned to the bottom of the basin. Did they take responsibility for destroying the shelf life of our pump? Nope, not covered by our warranty. How can this company even be considered professional? At this point I wish I had paid some circus clowns $13k to install the units, I'd stake my life that they'd of done a better job. read more

We were immediately influenced with all the positive reviews and now we know why. We had them replace our electric heat pump. We were extremely impressed with all aspects of this company. Selected McCrea almost 8 years ago from 3 different companies to replace an aging AC unit with a new heat pump. They have a dedicated crew that does just new installation so was very impressed by that. When it was time to replace the oil furnace came back to them for a matching Trane unit even though oil is going away as a heating option. Now I have a hybrid system where the heat pump works until 30° then it automatically switches to oil heat. Also purchased a Bronze Maintenance plan to keep the 10 manufacturer warranty In place that gives me two cleaning services per year plus 10% off any service calls. And talking about service , we just had some work done by Mario C. and he was very attentive, respectful and extremely polite. He had to order some parts and came back another day to finish the job and we are very satisfied with him. When my parents, who live in Maryland needed a new in-wall unit for their townhouse, Mccrea was the one that got the job out of two competitors similary priced. And when we will build our dream house with a geo-thermal system I will once again select McCrea probably because of their professional behavior, price, service and follow up. read more

I got the service through Home Depot, the phone experience felt rushed but was able to get a sales rep to schedule a free estimate. In person the sales rep was professional and did a pretty good job in assuring a great job. I was able to apply for a loan to purchase a new unit ( air handler and heat pump) after sales person submitted a quote via e-mail. Once I was approved I was told to contact Mccrea and let them know it has been approved to set a date for installation. Customer service was horrible, I was told that I was supposed to contact my sales rep. No prior mention was that I had to directly call the sales rep or it wasn't made clear. I told customer service I was just told to call Mccrea, customer service said they would get ahold of my sales rep and that my sales rep would get ahold of me. A couple days later no phone call or e-mail, I need my unit replaced since it started to get warm and I was already approved. I contacted my sales person and sales rep asked if my loan was approved??? Meaning no attempt from customer service???? So I said yes, and set a date, I was expecting an e-mail or at least a text to confirm appointment, I received zero. A day prior I received a text stating that they will arrive tomorrow, I was relieved. The team that did arrive were punctual and professional which were Blake, Jose, and Danny (can't remember if that's his name, he was new to their team). They use foot covers to not dirty my rug, which I greatly appreciated. Their work was very detailed and they were very polite, they would have finished on time but sales rep provided the wrong part so they had to wait for the part to finish the job. I would have rated my experience lower but the team that showed up is the reason I gave 4 stars rather than 3. They went above and beyond read more

We bought a new construction and McCrea installed the HVAC. Home inspection identified the heat pump was not working in Oct. 2020. McCrea identified it was due to leaking refrigerants and promise fixed the issue. Our electric bill was extremely high the following two months and the heat pump was not cooling in Spring 2021. McCrea sent technician and again repaired the system. Bought their maintenance plan. We had 4+ repairs plus regular tune up in the past two years. Last week the heat pump stopped cooling again. We are out of labor warranty and charge us with $89 diagnostic cost after membership discount. It took three days for them to send someone to check while we suffering 90F in our house. They identified the compressor dead and need replacement. They charge $1900 for labor after membership discount. Most likely cause of the compressor failure is "suicide" with assistance from McCrea. Low refrigerant at beginning and over change in later repairs likely contributed the short life. read more

We had McCrea install a brand new furnace in an 80 year old house that we bought in September 2008. We paid close to 16 thousand for this. Found out later that was a huge rip off. But, we were brand new home owners, vulnerable and stupid. But that was just the beginning. From the very beginning until present day, we have had the company out to service, fix and replace countless items that were not done right the first time. We had "master mechanics" come out to fix things that the 1st people were apparently under qualified to do the first time. One technician would come out and comment "That wasn't done right" and move something on the furnace - for example, the humidifier - cutting a new hole in the furnace and patching another hole. Then another technician would come out and put the humidifier back in the original spot. That technician would say that the 1st didn't know what they were talking about. And YES, they both worked for the same company. Our furnace was left multiple times non-functioning on a very hot day. Our house would be 90 degrees plus in our house at night when we had 2 of our children as newborns. The company came out - eventually. And threatened to charge us...until they realized it was something they screwed up. The same situation played out in the cold of winter. 50 some degrees in our house and the furnace stops working. We ended the relationship with McCrea because they refused to come out to our home anymore unless we paid them an additional fee for service. We currently have that balance outstanding because we refuse to pay for the poorest of quality and installation that has resulted in years of heartache and frustration. We've had additional technicians from other companies come out to service out furnace, some with the intention of asking just how bad our furnace was. Those folks seemed to be too scared to step into the middle of just how bad our furnace really is. Some recommended to hire and engineer to thoroughly document the functioning of the furnace in order to take McCrea to court. Just be warned...this is was just a little bit of what happened to me and my family. read more

My home air conditioning unit was checked this week, just in time for the summer heat. Lily called ahead to let me know she was coming first thing in the morning. She showed a great deal of professional courtesy, wore the usual shoe guards inside the house but also for these pandemic times gloves and a mask. She took the time to explain what she was doing and why - something I appreciate. She was thorough and up front about what could use upgrading without pressuring a sale. This was my second positive encounter with a McCrea Heating and Air Conditioning representative. My AC stopped working and is the middle of July and the temperatures are reaching 100 degrees. The technician said he was going to arrive between 2-5pm. I received a called before he started heading over to my house. He was very detailed and knew what he was doing. He was able to make the AC work and that was only a diagnostic appointment. He said eventually we will need to replace the unit. I did like that he was able to repair it without forcing us to buy a new unit. Overall great experience. read more

Great service! Brooks called before he was arriving and was on-time. He wore his shoe protectors without having to be asked. We had a new gas furnace and central A/C system installed a few months ago just now added a humidifier. He explained how the humidifier works and how to program the thermostat to control everything. He cleaned his work area very well when he was done and made sure we understood the operation and maintenance of the system. Overall I am very satisfied with how McCrea has treated us over the past few years. I will definitely go back to them again. read more

We have been McCrea customers for many years. Whether it is an emergency ... of which there have been few because of the excellent maintenance service ... or it is the bi-annual check on the HVAC system, the service has always been easy to schedule, prompt, professional and courteous. Our last maintenance call was covered by the team of Burt and Brooks. They were excellent. Ours is a 2 zone house and the systems are of somewhat different age and need different attention. The team was very good at helping us understand the different maintenance requirements and what follow up they would recommend to keep the older unit functioning at high efficiency as long as possible. Our 21 year old heat pump compressor finally died so we needed a new system. Contacted McCrea for a quote and got a Saturday appt. The quote was delivered on the spot and fully explained. Bettered the closest quote we had received for a comparable system. Provided the highest level of warranties available and all information needed to apply for an energy-efficiency rebate. Installation was scheduled in a very reasonable amount of time. Install crew was clean, professional and punctual. System was completely replaced in a half-day. Installers cleaned up after themselves (left no mess) and fully explained the system. Could not be more pleased with the professionalism by all involved. I made an "appointment" to have a service tech come to assess my furnace for possible replacement. Much to my agitation, I was told a tech would be out between 12p-5p on Friday, May 23. I agreed and actually waited at my house for a tech that NEVER showed up. Not only did they not show up , they NEVER called to explain why. At 5:10pm I finally called and got the answering service because ( go figure) the office was CLOSED!. Mr. McCrea called me back and was absolutely clueless and NO help whatsoever. No apology ...no nothing. I finally told him I would rather do business with a company that valued their customers and I moved on . read more

We scheduled our appointment through Home Depot, with whom McCrea sub-contracts. On the arranged day the technician arrived within the 12-5 appointment time (closer to 12 than 5). John Kline was a true professional - i.e. cordial, knowledgeable and open to answering our many questions in a forthright manner. We paid for what we got - an assurance that our system is in good working order, but won't last forever. However, with the adjustments made, it will function efficiently for several more years. read more

Had trouble with my heating unit and John came to my house and right away diagnosed my problem and fixed it. Offered to sign me a contract which I now wish I would of taken. We are entering year two of our contract with McCrea. They have been responsive, on time and thorough. We have a nice relationship with our technician, Frank. Early on, we had one bump in the road when we needed a service call on the weekend because of a quasi emergency of no air conditioning. No one came. I made loud noises of complaint. Hopefully they are better staffed for weekend emergencies now. We are quite pleased so long as the weekend problem remains fixed. And I expect it will be. I will let you know if otherwise. read more
