The Welcome bear
Mike O.

I don't do reviews of chain restaurants but this is no ordinary McDonald's. Located near the Walgreen's on the corner, the place looks like a giant log cabin. Rustic decor, wood carvings, a stuffed raccoon, badger, coyote, fox, and a giant moosehead all give this place authentic Dells flavor. The food: well, a typical McDonald's menu. There's lots of open space in the restaurant, a stone fireplace, and a video game room off to the side. The taxidermy animals are really cute, especially the raccoon holding the Mcdonald's fries packet. We stop at this McD's every year on our way to Minnesota in the fall. It's become a family tradition to take our pictures next to the life-size wood-carved bear holding a "Welcome" sign by the entrance. Even if you never eat at McDonald's, come in and take a look around at this one.

For my cocktail I had the THC tincture with ginger beer. I'm not an alcohol drinker so I was pleased to see the alternative. The service was amazing. Our servers name was Destiny. She was very attentive and checked on us regularly. They have all these umbrellas over each table that have to be constantly moved around to keep you in or out of the sun and they are so large and cumbersome they keep getting hooked up on each other. Not ideal. They have another outside seating area where a band plays. That looked very inviting. We were there too early for the band but it looked like a great setup. Inside they had lots of seating which was nice to have the option on such a beautiful day. They have these three fans I think outside to help cool and keep the bugs away. They could have been turned on soon this day before the bugs had started to come out. Hey, this is a really nice place to come with some friends to hang out and enjoy the surroundings of Devils lake area and some good ole fresh air. Yep I forget to take pictures. Next time.

The stainless steel diner has been well cared for and updated enough to make it more comfortable for staff and customers. There are some tables out front and two different seating areas inside (it's bigger than it looks). All the cooking is done behind the counter, where you can see it all happening. It can be a bit noisy as the metal spatulas hit the grill, but you can still have a reasonable conversation. It's a busy place, and the servers are efficient, with a no nonsense approach to taking your orders. The menu is large, with lots of traditional favorites (no avocado toast here). There were two pages of breakfast items, and it was a tough decision. We ordered a number of different items: corned beef hash, pancakes, and potato pancakes with eggs and sausage. It did not take very long to get our food. Very good portions, everything was plenty hot, and all flavorful. Everyone was happy with their choices. The corned beef hash was not the kind you get from a can. It was large, fresh pieces. The pork sausages were plump and well seasoned. The poached eggs were perfect. My only complaint: I ordered my potato pancakes extra crispy, but they didn't seem "extra" to me (extra extra crispy next time). The regular pancakes were good, but not fluffy enough to be "excellent". A very nice place for breakfast, and somewhere we would return to.

Place has open seating and plenty of TVs. We went for burgers. We had heard good things about burgers, so we dipped our toes into the change pool and gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. Either we had the wrong day or an inattentive cook. Wifey had the regular burger with a slice of raw and fries. Burger was ordered medium, a little pink showing. I went with the Gem Burger 1/3 pound with all the trimmings - tomato, lettuce, onion, bacon and a slice of pepper jack - and an order of fries. Wifeys burger was well done, even singed black on one side and her fries looked like they were from the end of the bag. All of them were pretty much less than an inch long. My burger was similar, not medium and more on the well side, but my bun was burned. Not just toasted a little extra, I could taste the burned bread. My fries were similar. The Gem has a problem with quality control. All the pizzas that came out looked fantastic, our burgers, not so much. The kicker was the cook came out to get a look at us before the end of the meal. Just a quick look and back to the kitchen. Bottom line .... stick to pizza. I'll never go back for another burger. There are better places in town for a good burger. Recommend that non pizza orders be double checked with good quality standards before leaving the kitchen.

This place was right across the street from my hotel. I absolutely enjoy this place just because it was full of locals in the area. The bar was very cozy and I felt right at home here. Staff here was absolutely friendly as well as the Patriots that made me feel welcome as well. I tried their cheeseburger while I was rolling through their menu and to be honest the menu is very appetizing for what is offered you will believe what they have here. The presentation of the cheeseburger as well as the pricing of all the menu items and how they taste for a bar of all places was absolutely incredible and it is top tier! For those looking for a non-alcoholic beverage they have a non-alcoholic Busch as well as a non-alcoholic Heineken besides water juices Etc if you want to fit in with everyone else. They got gaming machines and what seems to be the most popular attraction are the pull tabs. Service was very friendly it's a mostly older crowd too. Overall I left very satisfied and I was not expecting how great this bar would be! Incredible hours too. Highly recommend visiting

We didn't know how busy this place would be but we came in mid-afternoon and the menu was absolutely appetizing from what they offered I was immediately interested in their sweet and savory barbecue sandwich. My wife got a soup, the staff was very nice in accommodating and professional throughout the entire visit. They checked in on us and make sure we had water, they engaged in conversation with us , and they take pride in their menu. They offered a Pay It Forward program which was pretty cool to see and they even sell some books too. The food here is also very well priced and affordable.
