An American restaurant situated not far from the town centre with it's typical American decor. A…read morefantastic atmosphere with its ultra comfortable leather booth seats, skylight bringing in natural sunlight, even plug sockets for laptop users and free wifi. It also seems the place to watch live sports over a drink and a burger with tv screens on each corner of the restaurant yet it is still very family friendly and service has always been impeccable. In my honest opinion I do believe they serve some of the best American dishes around and can even compete with some of London's favourite diners. Wild wings (cajun) x6 Incredibly moreish and can see myself finishing a higher quantity bucket load. The wing sizes were quite average but very succulent and meaty inside. The cajun spices gave it a nice sweet paprika garlicky flavour and latched on well on the crispy skins of the wing showing that they were well fried, Sloppy Joes Ticked all the boxes for a fantastic burger. First that lovely pillow soft brioche bun, slightly charred so it came warm. Then came the rich tender minced beef fried with onions and peppers in there to give it some texture and boost of flavour. The sauce it came with was generous, with lovely rich sweet and and savoury notes keeping everything moist and juicy throughout. Finished off nicely with a fine slice of cheese, melted perfectly to intensify the umami flavours. Full rack ribs A delicious slab of ribs, keeping its meaty texture and flavours which suggest it was slow cooked the full length of time to tenderise and soften the meat. There was no pre cooking the ribs beforehand here. This allowed the rich BBQ coca cola sauce to penetrate through to the bone whilst reducing in liquid to create a rich and sticky coating around the ribs keeping everythign moist and juicy. A nice light creamy coleslaw on the side to cool things off. Curly fries These were perfectly fried. It had that moreish fluffy inside and crispy outside that was coated in the sweet mild spices which you find collapsing on itself as you chew, sending the rush of flavour through each mouthful. I say mouthful as who just pops one in their mouth per bite, not if they are this good. Chilli fries Not the spicy chilli as I imagined but chilli consisting of a wonderful well flavoured mix of red kidney beans, onions and red peppers in a lovely thick tomato slurry that helped bind the sauce and flavours on each and every chip. Drizzled with sour cream to add a lovely creamy consistency. Very wholesome dish. Sloppy suits every occassion whether it's your quick lunch or a celebration feast. Food has always been fantastic and paired with that is it's lovely bright and spacious atmosphere. Those who can eat a lot like me should definitely go for one of their food challenges. try their Sloppy Joes challenge and knock me down the top of the chart if you can.

The American in me really likes the place, my British colleagues in the back of my head would be…read moretelling me it is like an airport lounge, not a proper pub. Compared to a lot of the pubs I frequent, this one is quite large and open, but it is also a brewery. When you walk in, there are some couches against the wall, but the centre is just open, no tables, no chairs, just a lot of floor space. There is also a second floor that overlooks the floor space... and the bar. I wanted to try a couple of their brews, so I had a half pint of the Bishop's Farewell... mostly because of the fantastic name. Didn't enjoy it. On my second go, had a half pint of the Citra, still a lighter beer, but had a slight finish of citrus which was refreshing and helped curb the bitterness. Eventually there was some music in the background, but overall it was a nice place to get a drink.

I had a feeling this was the kind of place I would end up on my travels through this area, a bar…read morewith a lot of local beers at reasonable prices. This British thing of ordering the food at the bar even though you are seated somewhere is different but my friends did end up ordering food here and they enjoyed it while I put my calories down the old fashion way. I tend not to think of this place as a pub but a casual eatery that serves lots of local beers, that would help me put this place into perspective with its wide open areas and modern layout, decor and furniture. The food selection didn't seem to be from a pub either, asian food. Hmmm, not understanding this from a beer perspective here but whatever keeps the populace coming back. Most of the beers here were pretty good, I had quite a few that night so I can't even remember really which ones I had so come and grab a pint or two or many.

We visited Annie's today for burgers and beer and we weren't disappointed. Well, we mostly weren't…read moredisappointed. Lunchtime at Annie's is very *very* busy and loud, so if that's not your thing, you may want to visit slightly later in the afternoon. If you do, turn up early and wait for opening time / reserve a table just in case. As for the rest: The Good: The burgers were great - we weren't asked how we wanted them cooked, they were just sent out just-so. I wasn't sure whether I'd like this, but I did. The beer was good too, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The place was very clean, service was fast and they had decent Guinness on tap. The Bad: The plates could have been bigger - if you're eating a burger that you have to deconstruct in order to consume, you need a little room, and these plates didn't have that. The glasses were old and scuffed too, which wasn't a good look. The Ugly: We were told that we couldn't leave a tip with our card. It's 2019 and we couldn't leave a tip with a card. I left all the cash I had, which wasn't near what the staff deserved, and though the food was good, I still had a nasty taste in my mouth. Hopefully they'll change this policy and I can remove this paragraph and upgrade my review to the ***** that Annie's deserves.

I gather that Annie sold out a while ago, and undoubtedly everything that made it special is long gone. Do yourself a huge favor if you want a great burger, head up the road to Bohn's!
