I've seen a few restaurants of interest in the Crofton Park area and seeing the indulgent comfort…read morefood menu, with the chilly weather at the minute, my friend and I decided to have dinner at Longhorn.
The staff are really friendly and welcoming and really try hard. My friend and I ordered starters and mains. I ordered the nacho's with pulled pork and my friend ordered the wings. She loved the wings, but had to ask for more napkins as they were a bit messy, to be expected I suppose! I had the nachos, which I must admit were fairly underwhelming. They were pretty basic, topped with cheese and pulled pork (as added extra). There were no toppings such as salsa, sour cream, guacamole etc.. so they were quite dry in places. The pulled pork was good, but overall it would have benefited from some additional toppings.
Half way through our starters, our mains arrived... which was disappointing as it meant either the main dish stood there going cold, or we forfeited our starters. The waitress simply advised "we do things quick here" when setting down the main dishes, and didn't seem to acknowledge we now had 2 dishes in front of us.
I decided to forgo the starter and move onto the main; a chilli hot dog and fries. Well, without any type of disclaimer or advice, that thing was HOT!! I don't mind a bit of a kick, but it was very hot and spicy, a child certainly wouldn't have been able to take it. I was surprised that I wasn't advised when ordering to be honest. Apart from that, the hotdog was ok, nothing particularly special. My friend had a burger and she thought it was really good.
What we did have to contend with during the meal was a women and two children on the table next to us, who were very loud, with the mother and the children shouting and crying and playing games loudly. At times it was difficult to concentrate on our conversation. Being a small restaurant, that was a bit of a problem.
I was pleased to discover that I was able to use my South London Card for 10% discount, so it made the meal really cheap, so that was good. I like to try out and support local businesses, but this place needs a bit of improvement. They are certainly trying and the effort is there, but I feel they just need a bit more experience. Bringing out the main course not long after the starter, kind of killed it for me. I will probably continue to try other places in the area and wouldn't rush back here unfortunately.
