We had no idea what was going on because we had never had legal troubles before, and my husband had no idea about any sort of accident he was in involving a bicycle. Regardless, he was arrested, fingerprinted, and his mugshots were taken. At first we didn't even know the date the accident had occurred. Once we were told, we figured out that my husband had been in Annapolis, Maryland working at the time of the accident, so he couldn't have been involved. Not knowing very much at all, since we had never had legal problems before, we hired a lawyer who was there at the courthouse the day the judge told us we would need a lawyer. We had little confidence in the lawyer we initially found, and luckily we were referred by a family member to Mr. Rosenthall. Mr. Rosenthall was very professional. He did not take short-cuts and went through the process to subpoena the witnesses who saw my husband working in Maryland the day of the accident (which happened here in Virginia). When we did appear before a judge, to get an extension (if I recall correctly), it was clear that Mr. Rosenthall was well respected amongst his peers in the way they talked to him and about him. Our confidence in his ability to prove my husband's innocence was so important to us because the stress this situation put on my husband, myself, and our three children was horrible. Mr. Rosenthall helped to relieve our anxiety with his reassuring words and his professional demeaner and actions. He called us last week to let us know that our case was being dismissed. Even though we didn't have to go to trial over this, we know that Mr. Rosenthall was completely prepared to defend my husband if it had. I hired him 6 weeks before a divorce trial on Jan 13 after parting ways with a previous attorney who had worked on my divorce case for a year and a half. I pretty much gave him the files to the case from the previous attorney, meaning he didn't have much to do, and mostly what his paralegal Yesenia Lopez did was file documents that came in from the opposing attorney. Even my previous attorney who I had had for a year and a half didn't bill me that much. The man rarely returned my calls and barely spoke to me about the facts of the case. I made it clear to him that I wanted to counter a proposal from my ex-wife rather than go to trial, but he never came up with one. After 3-4 emails asking why he hadn't come up with a counter proposal, it became clear to me that he was stalling to get to the trial so he could bill me even more, because that is where he stood to make the most money, so he avoided responding to me. He never crafted the counter proposal I had been asking for a month! I have attached an email I wrote to him with an order of events (after the trial in which I went alone), asking him to justify $16,000 worth of charges. With him realizing that I could report him to the Virginia State Bar, he replied with an elaborate email LYING about the order of events and cc'd Attorney Welch and paralegal Yesenia Lopez who were in on the scam, to cover his ass.
