If you build it, they will come…read more I remember sitting down at a gala years ago and seeing the MCs talk about Sheridan's quest to have a campus built in the Mississauga City Centre. It may seem quaint now, but at the time, the very concept of Sheridan opening a school in Mississauga was treated as a running joke - something that had been discussed for more than 25 years at that point. The organizers played a video with Sheridan grad/noted Canadian comedian Patrick McKenna (The Red Green Show) somewhat mockingly - and almost in a pleading tone of voice - asking for City Council to approve their plans and get the funding needed to open a third branch because of skyrocketing enrollment and more post-secondary options in the region. Well, here we are in the current day and that prophecy finally came true. It was worth the wait. I've now had the opportunity to visit this site three times over the last six months and have been suitably impressed by the overall design and aesthetic, and that's coming from someone who made his bones at the Trafalgar Campus. Rest assured: this is a beautiful site that fits well in the City Centre, almost to the point of stealing the thunder from City Hall and Square One across the street. I most recently attended a funding announcement here at the campus, and was surprised by the premium the builders placed on beauty over functionality. You can barely walk through the place without running smackdab into a giant blue "S" emblazoned proudly over a window looking out, and the materials they've used here are leagues beyond either Davis or Trafalgar. Sprawling atriums, long straightaways and glass monoliths seem to be the norm here. There are also a couple of interesting exhibits I found myself stopping to stare at, including a men's fashion space near one of the cafeterias. This being the City Centre, there are of course multiple cafes within the campus - God forbid anyone should be bothered to walk across the street and go to any of the myriad options for coffee within a one-block radius, including multiple Starbucks, Second Cup and Panera locations. Even then, the Starbucks within this site doesn't seem to have nearly the amount of selection or service that its sister location shares within the mall. As this is Yelp and food should be involved, the pictures I've posted should also be proof enough. The organizers brought in a selection of donuts and food spreads which I suspect were made in-house. This is a space that I'm excited to revisit, because it offers a lot (from an educational and design standpoint) to the community, and I'm interested to see how funding for the (as of this writing) newly-announced STEM innovation lab will affect the school's popularity. Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said during the announcement that she wanted to make this campus a lynchpin of the Region's "innovation corridor", and I have no reason to doubt her on this point. If you're in the area, this site is well worth a walk through - it's a compelling sight in the city's centre sprawl.

This year's Oakville Family Ribfest was at the Trafalgar campus of Sheridan College. It's a decent…read moreplace to hold a drive-thru ribfest. This campus was the perfect venue to have four rib vendors, Tiny Tom Donuts, and a corn and lemonade truck set up shop, while accommodating hungry rib eaters in vehicles. I was impressed. When leaving the ribfest, you are forced to turn right and loop around Trafalgar Square (aptly named, although I do miss the real one in London, UK) before you exit the campus. Instead, I took the time to check out the buildings at Trafalgar Square. It's a modern campus. A huge letter S is there, if you feel like posing next to it. The buildings look modern. Greys and rustic red colours seem to dominate the look and field of this campus. It has a comfortable vibe. This campus houses the Faculty of Animation, Arts, and Design. No wonder the architecture looks so clean and crisp! It also offers programs in science and technology, and health and community studies. For some reason, I have always felt comfortable on any campus, regardless of whether I have attended a class or am a tourist. I was the latter last Saturday and I felt like I fit in. I suppose that I'll always be a student at heart. I ended up eating half my rib meal in my car, parked at one of the main campus parking lots. I didn't see any campus parking police for the half an hour that I was parked without paying for it. I'm such a risk taker... haha! I was more hungry than anything. There are emergency phones scattered around the campus in case you need them. I felt safe and it's comforting. (341)

If you have a holiday? ... not from Sheridan you don't. you have midterms? not without being overloaded with assignments and other tests. You need help from their admin on paperwork, marks or anything else? good luck, the women running it never responded and only have weeks of begging from the whole class and then escalating it to the head of the program did this women finally send what was needed with no explanation or apology. With Covid in place this college was so unprepared and handled the entire thing so poorly that it was painful to watch and listen to all the stress and headaches it caused. My wife would be at her desk studying and doing online classes from 5am to 8pm straight... and still not have enough time in the day to get all this done and she was a straight A student. This is one of those places where some teachers pride themselves on "Most of you will fail if I have anything to say about it!" Test will include critical errors. You could get 90% on the test but you do one little mistake on a certain question... instant fail. They will demand you get 90% in certain classes to fail, 90%!!! Never in any workplace that I have be at has that high of an expectation been required. I have heard great things about this college but after having to experience the student life of a hard working mom almost killing herself to keep up to an insane, unbalanced mismanaged workload... I have a strong alternative perspective on that perception.

Just cares about covering his own behind. Anyone considering doing the physiotherapy assistant program should NOT do it here. The program is not accredited by the College of Ontario Physiotherapist. They don't have a structure for the program or a valid course outline. They just follow the rules closely so the professor teaches what he knows more than what you should know. Finding placement will be a challenge as you have to find your own placement. Most places don't hire unless you come from an accredited program. Save your money if you can and don't be fooled by the short length of the program.

But the teachers and director on the other hand not at all, they are very immature and do not handle things properly. Due to a few bad students, the teachers became very distant with the class, barely teaching just reading the book out loud, rude and blunt towards students, and basically taking all frustrations out on entire class and the director doesn't do anything about it when confronted. You basically pay 16 grand to self teach. Very disappointed and would not recommend if you can't self teach.

Of course, there is always room for improvement, but if you are looking for a school that not only challenges your child intellectually, but also allows them to feel safe and confident in their learning, then this is the place for you. Pros: Small class sizes- Mac keeps the class sizes to around 13/ class. If the numbers begin to tip the scales, then another class has typically been created. PYB IB- One of the best curricular endeavors I have ever encountered. The IB program enriches the already set standard curriculum. It challenges the students to think creatively and analytically, and strives to make global citizens. Individualized approach- We have two boys with very distinct needs. Our eldest was identified as being far beyond grade level. The school approached us and made the decision to advance him a grade. This has been a life saver for him as he would have been extremely bored and problematic. He has continued to excel throughout his time at Mac. Our second son is quite advanced, but due to his birthday it would be difficult for him to skip a grade. So, what has the school done? He has enriched learning activities that do not burden him with extra work, rather allow him to explore his curiosities and connect what he has learned in class to the real world. Like a family- I don't think that you can say that there are many schools in which everyone truly knows your name. Mac feels like a family. This environment helps students feel confident in their learning and build self-esteem that will empower them in the future. Cons: Size- My eldest is getting to an age where he thinks the school is too small. We get it. The school was not designed to be a large and outrageous place. We have begun looking at different schools for him, and we keep coming back to Mac. He has done campus visits at other schools, and what he has referred to us with regards to classroom practices has been quite shocking. For now, Mac!!!

I don't have any cherished memories of the University - I always felt that this…read moreUniversity was transactional in its relationships with its students in comparison to other universities. As with any educational institution (this one was run more as a business as opposed to what was promised during recruitment drives) there were good teachers and some that never should have been allowed to teach. I do hope for any new students that the university has more rigorous standards wrt to its professors than in my time. My own children had much better experiences (albeit at different universities) than I did. If I had to do it all over again, I likely would have gone to a different place, as some of my friends reported having a top-quality experience - I was the only one who went to Guelph in my circle of friends. Over the years, I have met up with other Guelph graduates of the same vintage as me :-) and it was interesting that many had similar observations to mine.
