I've been spending a lot of time on Indy's westside and particularly in Speedway, Avon, Danville, and Coatesville. One day, I decided to venture around Speedway a bit as it's an area I grew up close to and I was feeling nostalgic. Meadowood Park is a 13-acre park on Speedway's north side. It's adjacent to Wheeler Elementary. It offers a densely wooded area along with a .75 mile walking trail, baseball/softball diamonds, sand volleyball courts, 3 shelter pavilions (all can be rented) - $75 for residents and $150 for non-residents, Ziegelmueller Pavilion, (can be rented), 2 playground spaces, and an interactive climbing rock area. There's a public restroom, though it's only open April-October. The playground, newly updated in 2010, targets ages 2-12. This is a safer residential area. I always kind of laugh because in a town known for the Indy 500, speed limits tend to be either 25 mph or 30 mph across town. However, that definitely helps keep things safe. The pavilion, or gazebo, has power outlets and can be rented - $100 for residents and $175 for non-residents. Tables are not included. A good number of local concerts are hosted here. Speedway tends to take care of its town. It's an important town since it hosts the Indy 500 and they take that seriously. This is an attractive and well-kept park and a great place where parents can allow children to play while keeping an easy eye on them. The ground of the playground is nicely padded and the park feels welcoming and safe. While I wouldn't consider this a destination park, it's a wonderful neighborhood park and one I'd easily visit when in this area and need a break. read more

In the shadow of the Speedway water tower sits a lovely little community park that is filled with majestic trees. The park offers several climbing structures and swings for young visitors to play and a soft matting so they are safe. Parents can sit on benches that surround the playgrounds and watch their kids. The park offers nicely paved pathways making it easy to push strollers or wheel chairs. There is a picnic pavilion and a lovely gazebo on the park grounds. The grounds are nicely maintained and manicured. There is a lot of natural shade from the large trees. It's a great place to read a book or walk the dog. There is a parking lot that holds about 20 cars or people park in the school lot that is adjacent to the park. read more

This is a very nice park located in Speedway. The playground is well kept as well as the shelters. I came here due to an event being held but plan to come back to check out more of the park in the future read more

What's great about this park, although not tremendously big, there are lots of big mature trees so lots of the equipment is in shade. Also rather than mulch the ground under equipment is that fancy stuff that bounces as you walk on it, so for kids jumping off swings or slides, it'd be safer. Meadowood Park is a nice little park in the middle of a residential area of Speedway. It's a very quiet, peaceful place, with lots of trees and grass. But most importantly for parents of young children: There is a playground here! The playground was remodeled in 2010, and it shows some wear, but it's still a good little playground, with something for everyone. The playground for older kids (recommended for ages 5 and older) has a playground structure with a tunnel slide and twisty slide, monkey bars, firefighter poles, seat spinners, a rock climbing wall, and a separate rope tower that kids can climb. A little ways away from the main playground is a big climbing boulder made of synthetic materials. There are fossil etchings all on the boulder, which is kind of neat. The toddler playground, for kids ages 2 to 5 years, has at least three different slides, a small rope climbing area, and riding toys. There is also an area with swings for toddlers, as well as swings for older kids, too. There's a Little Free Library here, with books and community information inside it. When I was there, someone was decorating a gazebo area, so I believe you can rent the gazebo for your gatherings. There is also an area with shaded picnic tables, and restrooms near that area, too. Parking is plentiful all around the park, near the elementary school and on the street. read more

Great park!It was calm and quiet. I would recommend for gathering. Only issue is the public restrooms didn't have soap or toilet paper.

This is a hidden gem of a park. It has something that so few parks in Marion county have: shade! There are lots of benches for adults to sit and watch the kids play. Lots of open space for a game of frisbee or a picnic lunch. There are 2 playground structures, including a small one for younger children. There are several regular swings and two "baby" seat swings. A large climbing rock is also close by providing lots of fun imaginative play as well as building motor skills. Several large picnic shelters are located in the park. There are also picnic tables scattered throughout the park as well. The park was clean and well maintained. It's definitely worth a little drive to check out this park. read more

I really liked this park. There is a private parking lot (paved) that is an easy stroll to childrens' swings and two playgrounds, to a pavilion, and to adult swings, as well. There are two shelters on the west side of the park and lots of mature trees for shade. There are paved walking paths and for older kids, there is a climbing rock that has "fossil" imprints made in the surface. The park is nicely spaced with nothing seeming too far away, but allowing the features to have their own space. There is an elementary school as a neighbor of the park, so that offers even more greenspace to the setting. Review #573 read more

Yesterday was such a nice day I decided to skip the gym and head outdoors! This small park is only 5 minutes from my apartment right next to an elementary school. It was very, very nice and well kept. There were playgrounds, swings, ball diamonds, and field areas for people to enjoy. I really enjoyed the trail, perfect for running or strolling. It was a packed park. A lot of kids having fun on the playgrounds and little league games/practices were going on. Overall, very pleased and I will definitely be back for my outdoor walks! read more

His is one of two nice parks in our town. This is a mostly shady park, with a nice playground, a couple shelters you can reserve, restrooms open during summer, water fountains, a baseball diamond and a large open field for soccer. There is a paved walking path around the perimeter that is marked by very quarter mile, I believe it it is 1/2 mile. There are dog stations with a waste bags. This park has a beautiful gazebo where Thursday evening concert series is held. Ample parking on the street and by the school when school is not in session. read more

Meadowood Park is my go to park for a walking path when I can't get to IMA 100 acres or Eagle Creek. The Park is approximately 15 or 16 acres and offers a lot of amenities plus more on the Meadowood Park site. It's a beautiful park with 3/4 mile of shaded walking paths around the outside perimeter with connecting paths that run throughout the interior sections of the Parks. You'll find three various size Shelters which seat approximately 45-50 people with large charcoal grills and power outlets. The third shelter is that but it is the gorgeous Ziegelmuller Gazebo perfect for so many events from a small wedding to a family reunion. For the active groups or individual folks you'll find two baseball/softball diamonds, and a wonderful playground which was nicely revamped in 2010 with all new equipment and a beautiful facelift. The park is loaded with nice trees, picnic tables scattered throughout with wildlife running around from squirrels to ducks. You can enjoy watching or playing ball to a leisurely walk while someone else is grilling the burgers. It's only 1.2 miles from the 25th street gate of the IMS track for those of you looking for a picnic in a Park if you're camping in one of the IMA camping lots. So whether you're looking for a walking path, place for a picnic, playground for the kids or a baseball game check out Meadowood Park. Such a great park! First, there is a nice little parking lot, which usually has open spaces, unless there is an event. If you are coming for an event, there is typically plenty of street parking nearby. My favorite feature in this park, though, is the many mature trees and lovely shade - especially on warm summer days! There are also swinging benches, a large "rock" for children to climb (with artificial fossils to find), a large gazebo where there are live music events throughout the summer, and softball diamonds. All in all, a fabulous park that is wonderful to have in our neighborhood! read more

What a beautiful park! My trainer will sometimes schedule outdoor workouts, exposing me to different locations around the city, and today was one of those days. I found myself pulling up to this pretty little park in Speedway, and I was really comfortable there, oddly enough. Speedway isn't my go-to area of the city but I'm certain I'll be back with my kiddos to play. The grounds are beautiful, there is adequate space to do different activities - making it good for people of all ages - and it appears to be a place where nearby residents work out/walk a lot. There is a shelter, strategically placed trash cans, and is situated behind a neighborhood school. Tucked away, this park is pretty cool. read more
