We were actually at another park when this one was recommended for a sunrise. I cannot wait to get back and witness that. I was here early in the morning and it was extremely peaceful. There is a cute pier with a view of much of the bay. There were a lot of birds and some pelicans hanging around sunbathing. You can see boats, the Skyway, and more. There is a boat ramp, a fishing area, playground, a small grassed area, and a bathroom. It is not the best park for running or getting in steps, but it is a great park for watching nature/ the water and enjoying the stillness. I really enjoyed my visit here and I will be back to catch that gorgeous sunrise that I have heard about.

We went to Lake Vista Pool for the first time on Memorial day (during their season opening weekend)…read moreand we were pretty impressed. They had a $1 special so it only cost us $3 for myself, the husband, and our daughter to go swimming. The normal admission prices seem pretty fair as well though. The pool was clean, the restrooms and changing areas were ok, there were ample life guards on duty, and lucky for us it wasn't very busy. There are 3 water slides which were pretty cool, 2 rock climbing walls over the pool (which I don't understand because why would you want to rock climb when you're wet and slippery...?), diving boards, and a decent selection of life jackets for kids and adults to borrow. It would have been nice if there were some food vending machines or a snack bar for those of us who came unprepared, but at least they allow you to bring in your own food if you're smart enough to plan ahead. I will say that towards the end of our time at the pool, it did start to get pretty busy and it seemed like the life guards had a hard time enforcing the rules. They didn't have whistles or microphones or something that would have allowed them to be heard over the general noise of the pool, and they spent a lot of time shouting in vain at people who were running, jumping in where they shouldn't be, etc. For the time being this is the closest public pool to where we live, so we'll definitely be going back.

Nature won't let you down. But the actual island is slowly going down hill. The famous white sand beach is still there, but is suffering a little from erosion and now has areas of scrub as well. Recently extra sand was imported in, but 2 back to back hurricanes have spread that new sand everywhere but on the beach. Beware of the parking situation. It's funny that you can park in downtown St Petersburg or at Tampa Airport for less money than on Treasure Island. Unless you are staying at a motel or hotel on the beach that gives you a parking space along with your room expect to pay at least $6 an hour for parking on the beach. Stick to city owned parking lots. The privately owned lots are true tourist traps. At Pirate Square strip mall I paid online and still received a $63 parking ticket! There is no way to contact the company to complain and if you pay within a few days they reduce it to $43 to encourage people to not fight the ticket. Fortunately this lot has been torn down but the damage has been done and other private lots are following suit. Every year the Sand Sculpture competition in November and the Kite Festival in January bring back the festival crowds I remember from decades ago. In between times there is just an overpriced resort town as high end luxury hotels and corporate owned tourist trap store chains slowly replace the quaint little motels and local owned shops that gave the area its unique flavor. You can still find some of the Treasure Island spirit but you have to look hard.

So many great shells in and out of the water. Even saw dolphins! Definitely take with you whatever you brought. We brought a few empty grocery bags to take our trash with us.
