Lamb Schwarzwurzel - light, flavorful and delicious!!

Absolutely fabulous food. Best meal experience I have had in a long time. I had the sampler menu, fixed meals with options. Not typical timing as far as the US is concerned. This was two hours long, but worth every minute. Very affordable, yet classy meals.

I'm getting ready to head back to Germany and realized I never actually reviewed this amazing spot from when I visited last year! I was there around this time last year, here's what I wrote then: Medici is truly amazing. For a Michelin-starred restaurant, the price is very reasonable. The four course dinner menu is around 60 euro a person, while other Michelin spots in the area start around 90 or 100 for prix fixe. The staff is surprisingly unpretentious. We popped in earlier in the day before our reservation to ask a question (not dressed very fancy, mind you,) and the hostess was perfectly warm and friendly. Our server was knowledgeable and efficient but very friendly and non-aloof. She remembered that my boyfriend had called the restaurant earlier and that he'd mentioned we were vegetarian. She cleared every utensil at the correct course, which is exactly the kind of service to be expected in a place like this. At the same time you didn't feel like you'd be shamed for using the wrong fork. The ambiance was nice. The table was candlelit and tucked away in a corner so that we felt we had privacy, and there was a tiny poinsettia for the holidays. Regardless, we could hear the restaurant fill up and come alive throughout the evening. We weren't rushed. From sitting down to getting the bill, our meal was around two hours, which seems about right for multi-course fine dining. The food was some of the best I've had out in my life, and upon tasting it you immediately understand the price point. The quality and care in preparation is obvious. Each dish oozes with culinary passion. The chefs masterfully pair multiple flavors and textures that might not seem immediately obvious, but each mouthful is perfect harmony. The amuse bouche was a pea panna cotta, which was savory and a little sweet, perfectly cool and smooth. I've never had a savory panna cotta, and this teaser cued me in that something truly special was coming. The salad was my absolute favorite dish of the night. It had lamb's leaf lettuce, pomegranate seeds, and a melty goat cheese. Every bite had a symphony of flavor and texture. I would gladly eat salad for every meal if I had access to salads this delicious on a regular basis. My appetizer was a prawn dish, which had plump shrimp and a curry-like sauce. For my main, I chose the filet of sole. The fish was thin and perfectly cooked, not greasy or mushy in the slightest. The presentation was gorgeous, and the mashed potatoes and vegetables were heavenly. Each sauce was an experience. My dessert was a seasonally appropriate gingerbread mouse that was perfectly complimented by the variety of fruits and sauces on the plate, which were just as adventurous as they were beautiful. This definitely felt like an adult dessert and was a delicate yet decadent end to a satisfying and exciting dinner. My dining companion had a chestnut foam soup, the salad, a beetroot curry, and a cheese plate. He loved everything as well. Each bit was bliss. Portions are modest, but each bite commands you to take your time and savor the flavors. This meal is a treasure. For drinks, we each got a glass of prosecco as well as sharing a bottle of mineral water, and these were also reasonably priced. Medici is a higher-end restaurant, but you absolutely get the quality that you are paying for here. For slightly more than the cost of an average restaurant meal, you get a world-class culinary experience. This spot makes for a grand initiation to the world of fine dining for less experienced gourmands (guilty.) I'd wager to say that most travelers would feel every bit as welcomed and amazed as I was. If you're ever in the city, make a reservation and check this place out- you'll regret it if you don't!

We were on a 10-day trip to visit Christmas markets and finished up in Frankfurt (to fly back to MN). We were staying near old town and found this delightful restaurant online. From the name you might expect Italian food but it's really more Mediterranean but also really really nice. The interior was nicely decorated for Christmas and we arrived at 5:30 for an early dinner-in fact we were the first customers. Our friendly English-speaking waiter welcomed us and got us settle. The menu, while not huge had a super selection of meats, fish and vegetarian options. Rustic bread comes our shortly after you are seated. We enjoyed all the food and sampled a wide variety of things: To start we had the onion Fambe tarte (really more of a flatbread)-great starter. (In German- Elsasser Flammkuchen) My wife chose the Filet of beef -note comes with a decent sized salad too-perfectly cooked. (Gebratenes Rinderfilet ain't Portweinsauce mit totem Zwiebelconfit, Kartoffelgratin und Salat)-that was expertly prepared while I enjoyed the roasted perch fish over ratatouille and pumpkin-delicate and so flavorful -(Zanderfilet August Ratatouilkegememuse und Hokkaidokurbispure) For dessert the gingerbread with orange sorbet was Devine. Easily the best meal on our 10-day trip and paired with great attentive service, a memorable night. Highly recommended

I simply loved the creative flair of the Greek chef here who on the spot delivered a vegetarian nix, a vegan, meal to delight me. Everyone at my table had wished they had ordered non meat. Beautiful murals on both wall lend drama while the understated elegance let's the beautifully designed dishes and the cuisine take center stage. Very personable staff that go the extra mile to accommodate dietary preferences and even plug in your iPhone! Loved it and highly recommend after or before opera in Frankfurt

Came in during lunch time for a quick bite. I Googled this place and the pictures and reviews looked really good. Immediately walking in, you get a hit with a giant aroma of truffle. They have a 3 course lunch special menu with various dishes you can choose from (one of them obviously being a truffle pasta). First comes bread and spread. Then I opted for the carpaccio and steak with white asparagus. Dessert was some sort of chocolate moose with a passion fruit jelly on top.

For good reason, this is my First and Only FIVE star review for a restaurant in Germany. Whichever colleague told me he thought we were going to an Italian restaurant was totally wrong. And I am SO glad. The entrance in the cold and dark Winter is not very inviting and you stand in the vestibule blocked by a red curtain to enter and awaiting those standing there ahead of you or trying to exit. While clearly not ideal, this shouldn't be any issue in the Summer. We were sat to the left which was a small area and I honestly never saw the rest of the restaurant. Quite unassuming and I was wondering what to expect of the food. The menu surprised me, especially the rabbit with herbs, pea mash and vanilla carrots. Vanilla carrots immediately set off a red light of restaurants who try too hard. I don't eat rabbit anyhow so easily avoided that option. They bring you bread and butter. Oh that walnut bread. I will miss this when I move back to America. And they kept bringing it, like clockwork, each time we finished a plate. I may have eaten two loaves by the end of the evening! I hesitated on my choice of starter (I wouldn't typically order this unless at a Thai restaurant) but was chilled from the rain and cold and settled on the Coconut Curry Soup with shrimp, cilantro and lemongrass. I had a bit of food envy when the truffled tagliatelle arrived for two colleagues (the arugula salad looked beautiful though standard also) which was soon erased. I lifted the spoon on the small soup to my lips and the scents immediately hit me. A creamy soup with a hint of coconut. The shrimp and size of them matched the small serving pot and were perfect. Each spoonful, the delicious aroma, just enough cream, shrimp cooked perfectly, was Perfect and consistent. Could the meal go uphill from this?!??!?! I will admit, the amuse bouche that arrived (tuna in some custard) was far too 'fishy' for me and I barely got one small bite down and left the rest. My entree...Saddle of Lamb encrusted by herbs over a pak-choi mushroom ragu with macadamia nut gnocchi. Yes the idea of a diet my final weeks in Germany went out the window. Again, perfection. The herb crust complimented the meat. I savored each bite. The gnocchi were nothing like a standard potato kind and even though laden with macadamia nut, had a sweet lightness to them. And the ragu? Full of vegetables and quite a rich flavor. We enjoyed coffees. Spared ourselves (and my waistline) dessert. I finished the second glass of my Chardonnay (from oak as I prefer). I am sorry, I feel I could have conveyed the flavors better. The service was also good (no issues on my end), I was just so distracted by the food! But please, if you have a choice in the neighborhood (at that price point - reasonable for business!), please give Medici a shot. The outdoor seating is the 'tops' in Summer I've heard. And you know what, I bet that rabbit with vanilla carrots was outstanding also.

okay so we are here for a late lunch. they dont do that, it seems that between lunch and dinner the cook is not working or they clean or whatever. well then just a starter. the waitress seems to be making a break in her head, not really listening and cant answer the question about the type of the fishes. well its not cheap so it should better be good. so salad with special fish it is. someone else is serving the food, thats intresting, he also knows the food. the salad is really good and the tiny pieces of fish are also tasty. i cant really say if its a bad place or not. but i would say that i expected more for that price.

The food there is stunningly good, so I know what great Middle Eastern food taste like. And, I have to say this absolutely qualifies. If I close my eyes, I would swear that this were prepared by someone back home. The hummus is silky smooth, and flavorful without being overly garlicky. The tabouli is fresh and light, with just the slightest hint of mint to it. But, the falafel is the real star here. Falafel can be done in a way that's too greasy, but this is crisp and tasty, exactly the way an expert at the cuisine prepares things. Even better, the prices are very reasonable. And, because everything is prepared in a way that's not heavy at all, you will feel compelled to eat more. This is a very good thing indeed. The place is very small, with enough room for maybe eight people to sit, so you may want to order this to go.
