He advised us on how much material to buy and was able to make us the most beautiful curtains. The product he delivered exceeded our expectations. His skill and attention to detail are rare. We even were surprised with two extra pillowcases from the leftover material. If you ever need any altering, sewing, dry cleaning, etc, I can only recommend him. Looking forward to doing more business with him in the future.

A place to avoid! I bought in a pair of soft leather shoes yesterday which had a few water stains…read moreon them. I wanted to have them cleaned and to see if anything could be done about the discoloration. The person who was working (and older gentleman who claimed to be the owner) told me it would be 90 € for the service because it would take me at least 1.5 hours to do the work. He told me I could do it myself at home and sold me two products for 12 €. I did exactly as it said and it didn't help my shoes at all. Today I went to another shoemaker with the products I was sold and asked if anything could be done for my shoes. He told me the products I was sold were not for this type of leather at all and that he could fix the discoloration for around 12-15 €. I have yet to pick my shoes up from this other place. Not only was the gentleman at Vakschoenmakerij unfriendly, but he tried to charge me an outrageous price and proceeded to sell me two products which he claimed would improve the color, but was actually just a water-repelent and a block for a TOTALLY other type of leather. I am very disappointed.

While wondering through the mall I saw this place and decided to give it a try and let them repair my boots. €25 After I picked them up they looked like new! Resoled and polished! It has been a week and I always notice how well my boots were done. Thank you guys! Seriously great job and I am happy I still got few years on those boots :)

Personally I believe the best way to tour Amsterdam is by bicycle. Transportation is fast paced…read morehere...one must always be on the lookout for bikes, autos, trams and obviously pedestrians. The city seems to encourage cycling for transport and has made it quite convenient for a bicyclist to maneuver around town. Bicycle lanes line all major roads and places to lock up are plentiful! Word of warning which comes from my personal experience: take extra care to be sure your bike is properly chained when leaving it to explore by foot. I have experienced the misfortune of returning to where I parked and locked (or so I thought) my bike and discovering my (borrowed) bike had disappeared. Holland Rent A Bike is the best and now only place I will go for rental when in town. The bikes are impeccably maintained, granted these are older style cycles, but I've never had to return during a rental period requiring repair. They provide a heavy duty lock and all bikes have a mounted back wheel lock. Best bonus: their rentals are not obvious tourist targets in that they are not brightly colored, covered with ads of the shop in which they are from. The staff is friendly and will make sure you ride out on cycle fit to your size. The price is more than reasonable and if you're renting for an extended period of time, you may even receive a discount. If you want to get around A'dam in style, Holland Rent a Bike will hook you up!
