This was quite some time ago so there might be new practitioners that are working here now, however I want to write this information to be known. Cleaning techniques need to be way more up to par, the practitioner didn't clean the area w alcohol before inserting needles and I ended up getting a bad infection. They claim they did nothing wrong and laughed at me. Very unprofessional. Please make sure they clean the area before inserting needles, this is very unsafe if they don't. read more

I was recommended to Meeting Point Community Acupunture by one of my dear friends. The first time I was there was a Wednesday afternoon in Oct 2010. Since both of us are new to this place, we are required to fill out some forms, perhaps that is mandatory for new patients alike. If I am not mistaken the person who took our appointment is Jessica Hardy. I like Jessica since she is friendly, nuturing and accommodating. Its like she has this aura that I like. Before, she starts with the Acupunture session, she asked me some questions based on what I wrote in the form. If the needle is in your skin, and you can feel pain, Jessica, make sure I am not in pain at all. So she retract the needle, and make sure its in the proper spot. The community room, is filled with inscense and calming music for the patients to relax while having their acupunture session done. My acupunture session was about half an hour. After the acupunture, I feel slighlty disorientated, by means its a norm for some people to feel this way. I dont mind returning to Meeting Point Community Acupunture when needed. You can't beat the value here. A friend had recommended this place and its affordability so I finally checked it out to manage stress. Rob was courteous both in person and on the phone. He had an opening the same day and I filled out the questionnaire online. Parking was super easy since they have a lot. I arrived super early and didn't have to wait very long to get settled. He checked my pulse and gave me some feedback, which was helpful. It was definitely a different experience than what I'm used to at an acupuncturist where you're in a private room. In the community room, people come and go so you can't expect perfect peace. Because it's a shared space, I want to bring some girlfriends out and we can do this activity together, almost like getting nails done except getting stabbed with needles to relax. read more

Meeting Point is great. It's a very comfortable environment, and treatments are on a Trust System sliding scale. The top end of that scale is $50, and if you can afford to pay that, you should; I believe that's still much less than you would pay elsewhere. Kendra is exceptional. She's very knowledgeable, effective, compassionate, and pleasant. Let's hope this review isn't so effective that she won't have time for me, anymore! Here goes... I have been to Meeting Point Community Acupuncture 10 times in the last 1-1/2 months, so far. I have severe arthritis in both shoulders, and didn't want to have shoulder surgery as I was told surgery would alleviate the pain, but would involve a year per shoulder to recuperate, and probably wouldn't help my mobility. Mobility is more important to me than lack of pain. I could only raise my arms up to about shoulder height, and even that was extremely painful. After just a couple of treatments, I could raise them above my head. I also have possible bursitis in my left hip, making it difficult to climb stairs. This condition has also improved. One more weird thing... I had a place on the front of my left thigh that's been numb for the last 30 years due to a car accident. Yep, she fixed that, too. I have no fear of needles. None. Stick needles in me all day. Ok, maybe not all day, but I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, so I could handle it for a good while I bet. I digress. The reason I had to stop going to acupuncture was because my new insurance doesn't cover it and what good are needles in my face if I don't have enough money to cover rent that month? Imagine my joy when I learned of this place that charges on a sliding scale ($35-$55 for your first time, $20-$40 thereafter) depending on what you can pay. My joy was bountiful, palatable almost. Here's the "catch": It's community acupuncture, which means you get your body stuck in a communal room on a recliner with several other people receiving treatment at the same time. This initially made me a little uncomfortable, but once I got settled in, I had no problem passing out for almost 2 hours. Upon arriving, I was welcomed by Jessica, who cheerfully helped me with paperwork and showed me back to the room. My acupuncturist was Melissa, who is a newcomer, but not any less knowledgeable, kind, gentle and friendly. It's almost unnerving to be surrounded by people that love their job so much and are such genuinely happy people. But not totally. I sat in my recliner and talked with Melissa about the things I wanted to get treatment for (weekly migraines and almost daily headaches, neck and back pain) and she set about placing needles and explaining why she was putting needles here and what different points they are for. A little heads up, the room is very, very warm, but I've found that I tend to get very cold during acupuncture, as do a lot of other people apparently, so after a few minutes of discomfort, it actually ended up being the perfect temperature. They also play the sounds you would expect to hear at an acupuncture clinic, but a friend who can't stand pan flute told me they will let you listen to your iPod if you keep the volume down so it doesn't disturb other patients. All in all, this was a great experience and I can't wait to go back again this Saturday. read more

I'm a straight up, tossin and turnin, anger inducing insomniac. Add in a dash of anxiety and a pinch of back pain from a spinal fusion, and you've got yourself a superbly ridiculous sleeper. I'm not one for pills, and let's be honest, I can't Jameson myself to sleep every night if I want to lead a healthy and functional life. A friend suggested accupuncture. I asked her if she wanted to pay for it for me. Working service industry doesn't always have its financial perks, or supportive insurance. After nosing around the internet, I came across community accupuncture at Meeting Point. $35 for the initial consultation and a sliding scale of $20-$40 each additional visit was a world cheaper than many other places on my Google search. The price is not correlated to the service, however. Jessica, Nate, and Ramona are not only friendly but very knowledgable, thorough, and attentive to any need. Although you are in a room with five other people at a time, it is an extremely peaceful environment in which I've never feel neglected or weirded out by others' presenses. I don't go as often as I should, but on the weeks I attend I notice a definite change in sleeping patterns and anxiety levels. Cheap and good. Good and cheap. Give it a whirl. read more

I had rotten, rotten headaches for years. I went to many different doctors and tried many different treatments. Pretty much all of those also made me feel rotten, just in different ways. My best outcome was to feel pretty solidly zombified on various drugs. All because that's what my insurance covered, and I didn't think I had the $$ for acupuncture. By the time someone told me there was an affordable acupuncture clinic in town, I was ready to try small animal sacrifice if it would help. I'm not really into woowoo treatments (I say that affectionately), so I was definitely a bit skeptical. NO MORE. My headaches are COMPLETELY GONE (it's difficult to explain how much that means to me). It's the best. I was a little leery of sitting in a room full of people stuck full of needles, but it's actually strangely relaxing now. And Jessica is just great. I got a huge part of my life back. I went here last week after trying another acupuncture clinic that is about twice the price. I called on Wednesday to make an appointment for Friday, and Nate informed me that they were doing free initial appointments on Thursday only. Bonus! I rearranged some things and was able to come in Thursday. I can only review this based on comparisons to the other place because that is the only other experience I have with acupuncture, and I don't know what a 'normal' experience consists of. Being antisocial in general and self-conscious periodically (and currently), I was apprehensive about the community room. I'm not big on spilling all of the details on my bowel movements, period clots, and why I'm angry while other people a few feet away are trying to sleep. Thankfully, and maybe unfortunately, Nate did not talk to me very much. Perhaps this was because it was free, but it spared me from having a bunch of strangers visualize what the contents of my toilet look like on a regular basis, so I was cool with it. The intake process lasted about 7 minutes as opposed to the hour or so at the other place. He felt my pulses but didn't look at my tongue, which I thought was The Thing To Do in acupuncture. The other major difference was that the recliners only allow for needles to be put in on the front of the body and face. At the other place, I was on a massage table where I started out face down with needles in my back, shoulders, neck, and scalp and then basted for a while before flipping over and doing the front. I really do prefer to have both front and back poked, so this was a big drawback for me. One thing I was worried about was being able to fall asleep in a room full of others. This was not a problem at all, and I actually fell asleep more easily than I did at the other place. However, I am a very light sleeper, and my nap was over permanently once a couple of other people came in and sat in the recliners next to me. It took me a bit longer here to get his attention with my 'meaningful look' signaling it was time to get the needles out of me than it does at the other place, where I am given a handheld pager thingy that brings the poker guy running to my aide. The one thing that made me super self-conscious to the point where I will probably not go back regularly is that, when I was done, I sat waiting for Nate to finish up with the other people and tell me what to do next. He had spoken with the people who got done before me afterwards and went over a treatment plan with them, so I figured I'd at least be told something. After a while, he looked at me and said, 'Are you okay?' Embarrassed, I took that as my cue to leave and went up to the front desk, where the very nice woman asked if Nate had told me....something. I told her Nate hadn't told me anything. She gave me a slip of paper with the practitioners' schedules on them so that I could make an appointment later because I told her I felt too strange (common for me after acupuncture) to figure out when I could come in next. I may make some appointments to supplement my treatment at the other clinic, but I won't make this my primary place. I like being poked in the back too much and HATE feeling like an idiot. I'd rather pay more and go less often and not have to worry about those two things. read more

Everyone who has a job must consider this approach. I have quite a few symptoms. Here's is what happend after my 1st appointment: watery eyes, chest congestion gone right after my first 45 min. Increased energy as well. I went in as I have been gluten free for 3 months due to food allergies. I explained my gluten withdrawl symptoms to Ramona, which have caused so many issues, I simply can't list them all. The major withdrawl symptom I came in for, I prefer not to share. I love acupuncture. This place is the first place I've had acupuncture at and it was so awesome. I immediately felt welcomed by Jessica, (one of the acupuncturist) She spent awhile talking to me about my body and health and the reason I was coming here (which is because I broke my scaphoid, wrist, bone and now three months later I'm not getting blood flow to the proximal portion of the bone and it's dying). The sliding scale is perfect for a student, It makes a lot of sense to me. I came back every other day this week just to get things going. I the whole process is really cool and relaxing and I left feeling like I made some progress with my wrist, 5 days after the first time, my wrist is doing much much better than it was when I first came in. I have been visiting Meeting Point Acupuncture for over a year now, and I love it. I was needle sensitive when I started out, and so I started out lying on my stomach on a bed so I couldn't see the needles. The acupuncturist Jessica was very cautious, and after a few weeks I graduated to one of their reclining chairs. The staff is incredibly warm and caring, and they take the time to listen to your needs and make sure you are comfortable. I usually get treatment for stress or to help increase my energy level. I always leave feeling refreshed. The treatment room is very relaxing, with reclining chairs and quiet music. With their sliding scale payment, you can't beat this deal. I love MPA! I started going there several years ago because of arthritis in my knees. I didn't want to be constantly taking nsaids or pain meds, so on a what the hell can it hurt whim, I tried accupuncture. Just so everyone knows, I've never gotten accupuncture from anywhere else mainly because Meeting Point fills all my needs. It's close to home and I can afford it. Best of all, it works! I came to Meeting Point with a nasty headache and desperate for a good night's sleep. It had been at least a week since I slept through the night, and none of my usual tricks were working. I was welcomed and given clean water to drink out of a ceramic cup, not a disposable one. What a refreshing surprise! I filled out my paperwork and was taken back to the treatment room, which was not fancy but felt really comfortable and cozy, like a friend's living room. I was impressed and relieved to see the "cell phones off, please" signs, but a couple of other clients were using their cell phones in the treatment room. I am EMF sensitive and always appreciate a little break from the constant buzzing when I can get it. A small disappointment. The practitioner Jamie had a comforting presence. He asked me a lot of good questions about my immediate problems and also about the "big picture" of my health. I like the community acupuncture model and have gone to a similar acupuncture clinic that's located nearer to my home in the past. But I think Meeting Point does it better. It's worth the short drive over to Broadway. So how did it work out? I have been sleeping better, my headache resolved, and life is easier. I was referred to MPA by a friend after having painful spasms in my legs that even a visit to the ER couldn't fix (sciatica, so they say). "Keep my back healthy" one of my mantras when Rob asks me about my concerns. Enough about me, more about my husband. He has RA and I knew acupuncture couldn't be as toxic as some of the serious medication he has been prescribed by a specialist. He was apprehensive so I gave him five visits as a birthday present. Although he continues on RA meds, which did not alleviate any pain, he will tell you our weekly "pin date" at MPA has helped him more than he could imagine. Since we have never experienced acupuncture in any other setting, the community room is our norm.
