I had trouble with my car making a stuttering sort of sound and it was running weird. I worked with Ben and Chuck to get everything fixed. They fixed the spark plugs and coils on one of the cylinders. They also needed to replace the battery because it was old. Ben was very communicative about what needed to be done and why. He also gave me the pricing which everything is expensive now a days but I thought it was worth it to keep my car in shape since it's an old 2004 Mountaineer Mercury. Thankfully everything is running smoothly today and I haven't had any issues. I'm thankful to Chuck for the explanation of services. We were in Colorado for the week when our car overheated. Had it towed to Meineke. We were told it was a special part that broke and they had to order. The next day they said it was fixed, when in fact it is overheating again. So not only did we pay alot to get it "fixed" it in fact wasn't. Don't take your vehicle there. ZERO STARS. - I took my car to this shop because it was making a funny noise. One of the front desk staffed looked at my car without having the engine on and checked multiple things like my oil and engine coolant. Then he finally asked me to turn on my car and heard where the noise was coming from it was my serpentine belt. I then was told to leave it with them and they would replace it for me. I picked it up later that day and went on my merry way. After only TWO DAYS I was driving home from work and pulled into my neighborhood when SMOKE started to come out of my engine and the back of my car. I was freaking out as I had JUST taken it to Meineke and now left with it in even WORSE CONDITION. Because of this I lost all my confidence in this shop to actually be able to fix my car. So the next best solution was to get it towed to the Honda Dealership since I have a Honda CRV and wanted an answer right away to what was wrong. I was then told by the mechanic that upon arrival to their shop they popped the hood and noticed my radiator cap off and just placed on the engine causing all my engine coolant to come out. Not only that but the serpentine belt was misaligned to the pulleys in my car causing my belt to then be frayed on the right side. BOTH of these contributed to the smoke and overheating of my engine. So a once $200 job now turned into around $530 to fix Meineke's mistake. Causing me now to spend over $700. When I returned to confront Chuck about the damage his negligence caused, I was met with hostility, gaslighting, and zero accountability. Rather than offering a refund or even a basic apology, he blamed me for the issues his shop caused. He then yelled, screamed, and threatened to call the police -- all in an effort to intimidate and deflect. He also tried to get one of his mechanics to "take care of us" by shoving us out but fortunately his mechanics just looked at him strange and didn't come out. DON'T work or take your car there for this is an excuse of a man. How unprofessional to involve your employees in your customer affairs in order to cause harm. While I was on the phone with customer service and stepped outside the shop for a minute he then patronized and belittled my partner, saying "I see through your tough guy act, you're not even a customer here, go home" who came with me to ensure I wasn't being taken advantage of. What's even more disturbing? There are no working security cameras on site -- a red flag for any business entrusted with people's vehicles and safety. The lack of basic professionalism and competency here is appalling. Chuck Goward is incompetent, unethical, and outright DANGEROUS to anyone relying on him to do his job right. AVOID this place at all costs. I would not trust this man to change a windshield wiper, let alone handle critical engine components. Save yourself the stress, the expense, and the risk -- take your car literally anywhere else. READ the other reviews this is a COMMON PRACTICE for this place to leave caps off, for people to leave with their car in worse condition. One customer reported taking it back there and now their car is messed up even further. So THANK YOU higher power for getting me not to go here again as Chuck is unfortunately a liar and takes not a single ounce of accountability. It's sad to see a company like Meineke let owners like this take advantage of customers and not give any accountability or punishment to the owner. I have contacted customer service multiple times and even have spoken to corporate. Chuck Goward does not follow the company's rules and regulations. He will come up with any excuse possible before even thinking about looking at it from a different perspective. Chuck Goward you are what makes the world stay where it's at and not move forward. You stand for what is wrong with this world, no accountability, no reasoning, and truly your appalling behavior. Highlights of my Meineke experience: -Leaky oil change resulting from an improperly tightened engine oil drain plug (I had to change my oil again 1.5 months after) -Menacing skull drawn under the hood of my car -Refusal to reimburse me for the shotty oil change or take responsibility for their ill-doing I typically wouldn't go out of my way to write a negative review, but I think warning people about Meineke's level of unprofessionalism is the right thing to do here. I went to Meineke and asked them to change my oil, rotate my tires, and check on my brakes. They called me to let me know my brakes needed some work and gave me an estimate. I called my dealership who gave me an estimate that was 10% cheaper. I politely told Meineke that my dealership gave me a lower estimate so I wouldn't be doing the brake work with them. Fast forward 1.5 months and a few hundred miles of driving later, my low oil light comes on. When I opened the hood, I found that the mechanics had drawn a skull inside my car. I brought my car to my local dealership and was informed that whoever performed my previous oil change hadn't tightened the engine oil drain plug properly. I called Meineke Corporate because I didn't feel comfortable calling up a shop that vandalized my car and neglected to properly perform the services paid for. Meineke Corporate informed me that the shop said their mechanics sometimes draw faces on car parts to remember which parts they've inspected, and that they wouldn't reimburse me because I didn't go directly to them and too much time had passed. It is absolutely shameful that a business would refuse to take responsibility for vandalizing a customer's car with a menacing drawing and improperly performing services that were paid for. At the very least, I should have been reimbursed. I will never go back there, and I hope others will reconsider giving their business to Meineke too. read more

My car was having trouble starting and I was about to leave for a road trip, so I took it in for a quick diagnostic and to get fluids topped off. The next morning on my way out of town, my wiper fluid was not coming out. I called the office to double check that they refilled it, and they said they had, and said that because it was so cold, the tubes must have frozen and that I should leave the car in garage overnight for it to thaw ..... um excuse me but not everyone has a garage, and I'm already on my way out to I-70. The drive became extremely dangerous without being able to clear my windshield, so eventually I stopped at a mechanic on the way to see if they could remedy it. The mechanic told me that someone must have put water or watered-down fluid in with the wiper fluid, otherwise the tube never would have frozen. This left me so angry - that the money I paid to have peace of mind on my trip went the opposite direction and made the drive hazardous. Avoid this shop! read more

My daughter's car wasn't starting and she replaced the battery to discover it was the alternator. Her insurance company tow service brought the car to this Meineke shop where they told her to replace the serpentine belt as well as the alternator. The gave her an estimate of $966 for this work parts and labor!!!! I checked with my mechanic who gave me an estimate of $380 for the same work. I also went online and found an average cost of $475 in Boulder. I guess these guys saw a young (22 year old) woman with her car towed in and thought they could take advantage of her. We still had the shop do the labor (brought in our own parts )and they jacked their labor rates up to $160 per hour, estimated 1 hour and charged for 1.4 hours stating clearly that they charge higher labor rates when they don't get to gouge you on parts purchases. AVOID - Boulder Meineke unnecessarily replaced one year old brakes on my Nissan Xterra that had only 16,000 miles of use on them. What makes this so bad is that they did the brake job one year earlier and should have known that, either their brake job didn't hold up, or that the brakes were not yet worn enough to need replacement. They also charged almost double what the Nissan dealer charges for a bearing and hub assembly. I'm an unhappy customer. read more

I had a new muffler installed and when I discovered there was a persistent rattle, I called and got instant access to their installation team. The kept the car for an hour to determine the problem and the fix, which they did for free. It turns out that a tow bar on my car that had been installed a few years earlier was too close to the muffler pipe. On certain roads including dirt roads, the tailpipe was able to vibrate again the tow bar. The fix? The metal tow bar was slightly trimmed back on the side adjacent to the tail pipe; and the back bumper which had a slight bend, was straightened. read more

Bacca saved me! I had an issue with my AC control panel that was making it blow hot air. To replace the controls required a proper diagnosis and we'd have had to wait until Monday for an appointment. It's hot, so I needed a temporary solution. In the mean time, I came up with a crazy idea: we could jam the control to the "cold" setting with a piece of metal! Bacca was absolutely pleased to help me make this thing work. When they were out of metal, he figured out how to cut and fold a piece of cardboard to the right size and strength, and it worked! Don't waste your time on them -- they'll just waste yours. I had an appointment for 2pm. I showed up a bit early and they said they didn't have a spot and that it would be 30 minutes. I went for a walk and came back 55 minutes later... I waited at the counter for about 5-7 minutes (because there was NOBODY at the counter) and then when they came out finally they told me that they didn't even get to my car yet. They suggested I come back in the morning. I was done waiting so I left. I'll NEVER go back there and I suggest you don't go there either. Keep in mind, I'm not looking for a diagnostic or any sort of special service -- I wanted the oil changed and that's it. Why did they have me set an appointment if they can't even handle that, and then why didn't they call me if it was going to take so long? Super unprofessional. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! These guys almost broke my BMW. They put a refurbished alternator in my car. Assured me of the quality and that I would be good to go. They charged me roughly $700. One week later, my car breaks down on the freeway. Guess what the problem was?! Faulty alternator. Spent another $500 getting it repaired at second time at Bimmer Haus in Broomfield. Bimmer Haus showed me the broken alternator and how it wasn't even the right model. I'm lucky more damage wasn't done. When I confronted Meineke, the manager refused to refund my money or help me/remedy the problem in anyway. He pretty much told me to go screw myself. They are lucky I'm not suing. It's my fault for thinking meineke was a remotely good idea to begin with. Never again!! read more

Before my husband and I moved, we wanted our car to have an oil change and get looked over. We had been going to the Meineke on Hover in Longmont and we both really liked them. We figured the Boulder location would treat us just as well. Since my husband worked in Boulder, it was easier for me to drop him off and take it in there rather than drive up to Longmont and back. I wish I had. At first glance, they were quick and friendly. I didn't have an appointment, but the guy said that he would get me in as quickly as possible. And it was true. Even without the appointment and there being other people there WITH appointments, it took less than an hour. Not bad. However, right before we were going to leave, my husband decided to check the oil life and it said 50%. Now, how could it go from 100% to 50% in 2 weeks? The only driving we did in the time was back and forth to his office which was only a couple of miles each way. No oil leak. Nothing. We thought that perhaps the sensor was being weird and we'd figure it out when we got back to Texas. When we did get back, we got another oil change. After it, oil life was back to being 100%. We watched it afterward for a few weeks to see if it did something weird, but it hung out at 100% during that time. This makes us think that either they didn't actually change the oil at all (it was around 60% when we brought it in) OR they didn't do it right so my car said it was only 50%. Either way, pretty pissed that we spent $40+ to get the fancy synthetic oil and we didn't get what we paid for. Can't do much about it now and I wish we had caught it the day it happened, but it didn't even occur to me to check the oil life right after getting the oil changed. Hopefully other people will read about our experience and go elsewhere. read more

It's hard to find an honest car repair shop but it's also important to know where you should NOT go! And this place is definitely one of them! The door lock on my Jetta had to be replaced and they told me that the labor was $100 but the lock itself would cost $450! So I called up the VW dealer in Boulder (which are usually known for being more expensive) and they told me that the lock was only $230! So I ask Meineke if they could put the lock in my car if I would bring it to them. They would do it but without any guarantee and suddenly the labor was $200! Doubling the price of a spare part? First- don't let some of these bad reviews fool you- they move a lot of cars through here and I am confident that you are only hearing from those very rare occasions where something didn't go right. On my experience, I bought an older truck (1986 F150) from a guy here in Boulder and he said these guys had always worked on it and so I decided to take it to them (they were the cheapest synthetic oil change and tire rotation) and they were great, quick and easy and I enjoyed talking with them. A few weeks later I was having a little trouble with the wheels which I determined was highly likely due to a small mistake on their part (it happens and I totally understood). I called them and they said tow the vehicle there (they would pay for the tow if it was ultimately their fault). I arrived and they were extremely nice, took responsibility and took care of the truck and personally delivered the vehicle to my house the next day (15 minutes away). Mistakes are never fun and I would have loved to have not had one, but when they happen (and they will) these are the kind of people you want around. They could have tried to blame it on the old truck, the way I drive etc., but they immediately took care of it and were extremely apologetic. Had an appointment for today, when my partner and I arrived the person behind the desk was talking on the phone and not wearing his mask. The office is tiny and not ventilated. We made a hasty exit, decided to go elsewhere. Not worth risking covid for a cheap oil change. Don't waste your time or money at this shop! I had taken my car to two previous shops to perform an evaluation on three items: 1) oil leaking from oil drain bolt, 2) clunking noise in front suspension, 3) Engine making a funny noise. Here's my experience at this shop: 1. First off, the only reason I went to this shop was because I received a coupon in the mail from Meineke which included a free roadside checkup inspection. The coupon included the Boulder address. However, this shop refused to take any of the coupons, even though their address was on the coupon. Be warned, they will not honor any coupons from Meineke. 2. They indicated no issues found with the engine noise complaint, while both other shops diagnosed the problem as two engine mounts that need replaced. 3. They did not pull the drain plug to inspect the oil leak. They indicated if the plug threads were bad, it would just need a new drain bolt. However, if the pan threads were bad, it would need an oil pan replacement. I asked if there were any other options to fix that leak and they said no. However, one of the other shops quoted it as a $65 repair to insert a helicoil. 4. They indicated the inner tie rods needed replaced, however those had just been replaced 4 months prior by one of the other shops. 5. They indicated it needed new struts, which both other shops did not diagnose as problematic. 6. They charged a minimum of $25 (for only 15 min) diagnostic time to look at the car. However, the other shop did not charge such a fee. 7. I asked what the repair charge would be if the oil pan needed replaced, and they refused to quote that since they didn't pull the drain plug to inspect. They made a remark that they could provide estimates all day long. Isn't that part of running an auto repair shop? I've called the local Honda dealer (and other shops) several times and asked for repair quotes sight unseen and they quote it every time. read more

I have had multiple bad experiences at this Meineke and would not recommend it. In 2014, this shop replaced my timing belt with aftermarket parts without notifying me they were doing so. Two years, 24,000 miles later, the tensioner roller broke and shredded the timing belt, which should have lasted at least 90,000 miles. The manager offered to replace the timing belt parts, but would not cover labor or my towing cost, and overall did not seem to really care about helping to make it right. In 2015, when my car had a problem starting, this shop said the problem was an underpowered alternator and battery, quoted me $557, and said I would be lucky if it ran another day. Another shop tested my battery and alternator that same day and said they both passed. My car ran fine without any repair needed. Do your research and find a better Boulder auto repair shop that you can trust. Don't waste your money here. read more

Today I was told that I would receive a call in no more than an hour with a diagnostic assessment and a plan. Five hours later I still had not heard anything and I called and learned that my car had not even been looked at yet. The technician was arrogant and dismissive. VERY DISHONEST!!!! I took my car in because It was making a loud humming noise in the right rear end, they told me it was my rear differential and wanted to charge me 1,600. I took it to another place to get a second opinion they said it was the bearing and it only cost me $160 to fix!! They said if it was my rear differential they would have only charged $600! Couldn't be happier with the service. I needed an oil change but apparently the Meineke in Reno who serviced the car last had forced the plug and cross threaded it. The Meineke in Reno refused to take responsibility, but the owner of the Boulder location stepped up and fixed it. He ordered me a new plug, fixed the problem, and gave me a discount on my oil change! It went from being a $200+ problem to a $24 oil change in under an hour. Terribly unfriendly and horrible behavior when asking questions. The guys at the auto shop sent me there to have my batteries installed since they couldn't do it due to some frame thing. I only walked in to ask if they could do it since I couldn't turn my car off, without having it installed, the guy tells me to wait and he'll get to it. I wait for over half an hour, and then go to ask, and he completely dismisses me because I didn't buy the battery there. The price I was quoted was $25 for a battery swap and I waited for that long to get that reply after. I was so upset, I stormed out and actually ended up at Grease Monkey. The guy came out, looked at it and swapped it in 2 minutes. I tried to pay him and he just said, come back for oil changes there, smiled and walked away. I can't comment on any service they do since I wasted my time waiting to be able to get some service but the way they treated me was trash. I will never use their service or other Meinekes my entire life. read more
