It's a decent place for pizza. They are always short staffed even prior to pandemic. There's only two waitresses working, one who is covered in tattoos and doesn't have great people skills. A cool Austin retro-70s decor inside, really yummy, zesty, flavorful pizza and solid service make the Mellow Mushroom a go-to pizza destination. There are a lot of things to like about the Mellow Mushroom. The name is so 70s, so Austin, and so pizza topping that the feel inside has to match for the picture to come together. And it does. Lava lamps, a bar that is lit from within, metallic art with colored resin. It seems like there's always more to look at inside the dining room. We ordered the Mighty Meaty, which was plenty of pie for two of us. Having explored the pizza of New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, I find the Mellow Mushroom offerings to stand up as strong contenders with any of them. I'm not sure what the preferences of those who rate Mellow Mushroom pizza below 4 stars are, but I'd challenge them to list where they go for better pizza than this at the price. My only minor gripe is I ordered a Lakewood Temptress and specifically asked the server if it was on Nitro or not. He said no, but it was (not my preference). I had to explain it to him after the fact. By then I was half way through it, and it's not an ender. I just like bite of CO2 better. Mellow mushroom has a good amount of specialty pizza options. They also have salads, sandwiches etc. To start off the pretzel bites are decent. It is enough to share between 3-4 people. I liked it with the cheese over the marinara sauce. The bruschetta was tasty. They were out of French bread so they brought it to us with wheat bread. It tastes better with the French. But it was still good. To eat I ordered both bbq specialty pizzas, a Hawaiian, and the potato pizza. I ordered small which with the appetizers is good enough for two people to split. My favorite was the buffalo. I didn't like the potato pizza. Not that it was bad it's just not my favorite. The calzones are huge. I would say you can split one among 2-3 people. I would rate this as a average pizza spot. The pizzas aren't bad and the ambiance is hip. read more

We first discovered Mellow Mushroom on Bluebonnet Circle in Ft Worth. We really enjoyed the pizza and the atmosphere and then we heard that one was going to open in Arlington. My wife and I looked forward to the restaurant that was closer to home. We have been visiting the Arlington restaurant since it opened but we have been disappointed in the quality of the food. We have noticed that it appears that they are scrimping on sauce and toppings. We have complained before and they told us that their best pizza maker was in the kitchen . What we received was a pizza that had about about a third of the crust without sauce or toppings. Yesterday we took a couple for a business lunch and again we experienced the same thing. My wife's Holy Shitakii pizza had hardly any mushrooms and there was a large area on the pizza that had nothing on it. We spent in excess of $100 and had 2 star pizza. I doubt we will go back. No wonder the crowds are sparse. read more

The worst service I have ever experienced. The wait staff was more concerned with talking in their group vs bringing water to the table or taking a beverage order or asking if we wanted to order. I would never recommend going to Mellow Mushroom unless you plan to sit at the bar. The bartender was awesome - we had to goto the bar and order drinks since the server never returned to our table. And what was so funny is when the server would look at her tip on receipts and notice that people left horrible or no tips - gesh I wonder why. By the way there were maybe 15 people in the entire restaurant. If your employees want to have a dramatic high school type event where you can see the servers congregating and acting like 13 year olds then this is the place you should visit. We had a group with folks coming in and out. they handled it all with Grace, humor and excellent attitudes. Unfortunately Mellow Mushroom has really suffered with the current state of the service industry. I have refrained from leaving a review over the past several visits trying to be patient and understanding with the lack of quality employees willing to work for a living. We would frequent Mellow 1-2 times a month. I don't know if I will come back again. When you have to go to the bar to order your own drinks because the servers are too busy talking in the kitchen to actually be attentive to their tables. We actually finished the beers we went up to the bar and ordered before the beer we ordered from the server arrived. You see that the manager left a note on my original review that there was a gift for me in my mailbox. Super nice gesture. Here's the thing..... that was just lip service. I gave my address the same day through Yelp and followed up last week with an email. Not another peep from anyone at Mellow Mushroom. It's just weird. I stand by my original assessment that the kitchen is the only thing running smoothly. I hope it's enough for this location, considering it wasn't enough for the (recently closed) Mansfield location. Oookkayyyyy. That was interesting. The food was delicious. Everything else was an asylum sideshow. We were greeted immediately and taken to a booth. Server one (removing names to be cool) took our drink order. I also showed her the yelp coupon I had for free pretzel bites. She said she'd ask her manager about it. Ok. Second server comes over and asks if we've been helped. We tell her Server one already took our drink order. A little bit of time passes (not much) and the second server comes back and wants to take our drink order, again. Cue Server one who walks passed us with our drinks in her hand like she never saw us before. They flag her down. She takes our order. The manager comes over, apologizes for the wait and says the drinks are one the house. Awesome. A little more time passes and the second server comes back and takes our order to make sure it's in the system. Keep in mind this is now two servers who have actually written our order down. Cue third server. He asks if we've been helped. We assure him we have. He leaves and comes back to say he's asked everybody and no one took our order. We give our order for the 3rd time. I show my coupon for the second time. The food comes out slowish. My pizza was about 10 minutes behind my boyfriend's order. The restaurant closes at 11pm. At 10:30 we tried to order another drink and server three says we couldn't have another drink because the restaurant closes in 30 minutes. WTF? Check comes. The drinks were not comped as both Serverand the manager offered. Went to the bathroom before we left. No toilet paper. Luckily, I was able to reach under to the next stall. The food was delicious. I always used to frequent this place, it has usually never been busy but this Friday night it was surprisingly busy and you could tell the staff were overwhelmed/weeded. We sat at the bar area, got our drinks and ordered our pizza, at first we asked the guy behind the bar if we could sit at the booths around the bar but they weren't free seating so we went for the bar, he the proceeded to ignore us and didn't take our drink order, it seems he was on the booth on the other side and used the POS behind the bar and was making his own drinks, he didn't seem to be a team player and was only looking out for himself. Anyway to the food, we always get a large half Holy Shiitake (extra mushrooms) and half Funky Chicken or Maui Wowie. However we were both disappointed when the pizza arrived firstly it seemed smaller than usual, we usually can't finish a large between the two of us, and we demolished this pizza, Secondly the Holy Shiitake side, you couldn't even see any mushrooms on it. Our bartender agreed their weren't many mushrooms on it, specifically as we added for extra, she went to get us some extra but it took a while. The Holy Shiitake has really gone down hill, the menu describes it as "Olive oil and garlic base, shiitake, button and portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella, and MontAmoré®. Finished with a garlic aioli swirl and a spritz of black truffle oil. Garnished with fresh chives and shaved parmesan.", you couldn't see any shiitake or portobello mushrooms on it, it was just regular old mushrooms, the pizza was mainly the aioli and parmesan cheese. Back in the day when we ordered this pizza is was absolutely covered in the mushrooms and was great, this pizza was a disappointment. We commented to the manager on the floor about it, and he just gave us $5 off the pizza. Nice chain pizza joint out in Arlington. I tried the build your own burger with mushroom, Swiss, and bacon. I would give it a 7 out of 10. The wife got a plain cheese pizza and said it wasn't her favorite but it was ok. So if you don't like thick crust beware. Price was not too bad and they did have a nice selection of draft beers. When my husband & I arrived, I had ordered a gf/df bbq chicken pizza, as I've been craving one for too long. However, the manager made us aware that the gf pizza crust was temporarily unavailable due to a cross-contamination issue. While I was disappointed regarding the pizza, I was thankful for the honesty. So I gave the wings a go & boy, were they good, too! Our server, Christopher was very apologetic, accommodating & kind. Mellow Mushroom gets serious ambiance and energy points; they really go all the way on the whole psychedelic/super-hippie/mushrooms/tribute to Mary-Jane theme... maybe even a bit overboard. But I appreciate all the details. There are kaleidoscopic paintings on the walls; funky squares on the floor filled with multicolored goo that squish out in erratic patterns beneath your feet; cool blue neon lights shining out from the bar; and a colossal menu of items with punny or themed names (for example, "Half-Baked Brownies" - hardy har). While I'm a fan of the theme, the music, the colors, and the creative menu - I think it's all a bit overwhelming. There are so many options on the menu that it's a somewhat messy read, unless you're gluten-free of course. And if you have to order gluten-free, be prepared to spend at least $20 on your pie. You can get plain cheese for $15, but added toppings are over $1 each. I hate to complain, but that's a lot of money - even for a GF pizza. The crust is clearly defrosted (mushy with a hint of freezer burn), and my extra toppings were quite scarce. I cannot comment on any other menu items, but I can tell you that nothing is cheap! I can also tell you that the service I had here was excellent, and they possess a pretty stellar bar with an excellent array of beer and cutesy, original cocktails. I noticed from all of the comments on your corporate website, that they are all negative. Not one of them had a positive thing to say about any of your locations. I find that to be extremely disappointing. I have eaten at mellow mushroom locations in several cities, including Orlando, Florida, Austin, Texas, Arlington, Texas, and Houston, Texas. Every year for the last five years I've had a conference in Arlington, Texas the friends that I meet at the conference every year, Look forward to stopping by at the Arlington location, for some of the best pizzas on the market. This year I've never been treated the way that we were treated at this location. There was no manager on duty. There was no franchise owner on duty. We entered the restaurant at the peak rush-hour of 5:30 PM on a Monday night, the restaurant had three tables occupied. Two, three-tops and one, two-top. We were a seven-top that included five adults and two children under the age of 6. There was a visible staff of five people, one bartender, one server, and three kitchen staff. We ordered our drinks, appetizers and pizzas. While one, two-top, came in after us, we did not receive our orders for over two hours. There was no organization to the way tables were handled. People who came in after us receive their food orders, ate their food and left before we had even seen our pizzas. The three complicated pizzas apparently were one small half cheese, half pepperoni for the kids, One medium philosophers pie and one large Maui Wowie. After two hours our pizzas had still not come. The server was wiping down tables for people who were not there and were not entering the restaurant. The people in the kitchen were standing around, doing basically nothing the bartender actually delivered our drinks and brought the two appetizers we had ordered eventually. This was intended to be a celebration of a single mother and it quickly became a disaster. There was no explanations. There was no one coming to apologize and when finally pressed to get the food and box it up, We wound up with bills of nearly $200. There was no mad rush for orders coming in over the phone to be delivered. There were no pizzas moving in and out of anywhere. It was just the most shabbily run operation in a restaurant I have ever seen. I have worked in bakeries, in fast food restaurants, in retail, and in restaurants throughout my life and I have never seen a place so completely disorganized and unsupervised. I am not looking for an apology or a refund or a free food coupon. Nothing you could do, or say, will ever bring me back into any of your locations in any part of the United States, that I travel through. Nor will any of the other people that I was with tonight. In short, you have lost a customer and you have created a vocal and outspoken critic. What does it say about your corporation, if every comment on your corporate website is negative? I'll be honest: I never would've stumbled across the place if I weren't creeping on a Facebook friend and saw a check-in here. But I guess Facebook creeping has its benefits - I just discovered my favorite pizza joint in DFW! FOOD: I've only tried two pizzas here: the "House Special" (basically a Combination or Supreme) and "The Caesar!" (chicken Caesar salad with roma tomatoes on a pizza). Both easily trump anything I've had at California Pizza Kitchen and BJ's. While I could write a whole paragraph about the delicious toppings alone, what deserves special attention is the crust. I was never one of those kids who left a stack of uneaten pizza crusts on my plate, but I've had my fair share of moments where I've found myself scarfing down dry, tasteless crusts that I would've rather thrown away. But not at Mellow Mushroom. The crust here is hands-down the BEST crust I've ever had: it's golden brown, crispy, and delicious even without any dipping sauces like the take-out pizza chains use to get you to eat their crusts. Outstanding. SERVICE: Excellent, especially for a restaurant that can get as crowded as this place does. All of the servers are young and laid back, which is to be expected from a pizza chain founded in a college town, but they're all extremely attentive and competent as well. I need to give a special shout-out to one of the servers there (whose name eludes me at the moment): I've only eaten here three times - with months between each visit - but the last time I was here, this guy recognized me immediately and even remembered what drinks and pizzas I ordered the time before that and offered additional suggestions. I was taken aback for a second, but it definitely made me feel like family there. AMBIANCE: Playful psychedelia from the late 1960s and early 1970s: think hippies, lava lamps, flower power, neon, etc. It's tastefully done, though - not tacky. There's also this cool plastic-covered "ooze" floor near the entrance that's amusing for kids and drunk college students alike. It's fun and energetic, but never rowdy. Great for friends and families alike. VERDICT: Even if you're not a pizza fan, you've got to try this place once. I have been to this location only once but totally dig their food. I ordered the magic mushroom soup for my appetizer and the house special & red skin potato pie half and half pizza after reading a couple reviews here on yelp. The soup was very tasty with an almost perfect consistency. It had the mushroom flavor along with tiny bits of grilled beef. The pizza was really delicious, easily one of the best pizzas I've eaten at a chain restaurant. The house special pizza had a very tasty sauce and the meat was fresh. I liked the red skin potato pie more. The grilled potato with the apple smoked bacon just fit in like a ball and socket joint :). The pizza did take long to come out but boy oh boy it was totally worth the wait. The place is huge and not crammed up. Their staff is very hospitable and does not bother you too much other than when needed. I haven't tried the drinks here but they do have happy hours for 4-7pm on weekdays. Hubby and I met two friends for dinner tonight and we were both very underwhelmed. Service by Julian was great - very attentive, fast drink refills and an overall friendly personality. I got the small tossed salad ($3.60) that had a lettuce mix, 2 tomato slices and a few sliced mushrooms with a pretty low-quality bottled 1000 island dressing. Would NOT order this again. Hubby got the Magic Mushroom Soup ($4.25) which gritty with a flavor more reminiscent of dirt not mushrooms. Described as wine and herb broth, it looked creamy, however, it completely lacked a creamy mouth-feel. The mushrooms were sparse and soggy and it just didn't hold up well. For an entree, I ordered the regular pizza, with extra cheese and extra sauce - cut in squares. (I know, it's an Ohio thing, I think). Pizza came out hot, looked great but wasn't cut in squares. This is NOT a deal breaker, and there was plenty of sauce and extra cheese, but the whole thing was just very eh, not spectacular. Honestly, I would say Domino's or Papa John's would do just as well on the scorecard as this place, for 1/2 the price. The crust was supposed to be buttered and dusted with Parmesan cheese; however, it tasted like that cheap cheese you get at the store - you know, the ground up Parmesan in the pizza crust section. Meh! Large pizza (so we could have leftovers, thinking it would be worth it) was $18.65. Hubby ordered a duo - first was the 1/2 of the Righteous Portobello Ruben, which was light on the sauerkraut, didn't have much of the normal Reuben flavor, but otherwise, it was ok - just nothing special and nothing really filling! It had all the listed ingredients, but a very small amount of each. ($6.50 for blah, not a good value!) He also ordered a small Shitake Pizza, with extra cheese ($14.34) which again had all of the listed ingredients; however, they didn't work well together, didn't pack a punch and would not be worth ordering again. I am a pizza FREAK and really REALLY wanted to like/love this place; but alas, it is not to be today. Honestly, not sure I'd return again, except on Tuesdays they have Trivia Tuesdays, which I think would be fun! Perhaps come for the diet coke, which was the only spot-on star of our dinner! As a side note, I got home and several hours later, reheated a piece of the cheese pizza in the toaster oven and it heated up nicely - very melty. As soon as we move tables this manager. White chub dude approaches us with the most passive aggressive and condescending tone. They have different type of pizza so you have to try something new or stick with pepperoni which what I do. They have plenty of seating for big groups. That makes them good for happy hour. So, I think I need to give this place another shot, but I just wasn't that impressed. I needed to grab lunch prior to a theatre show and this location popped up on Yelp with pretty good reviews. Having remembered something about their beer selections and what not, I decided to give it a try. I sat on their large patio, had quick service and ordered a pizza to split. We tried one of their pizza's on the menu and it was fair, but not something I would write home to mom about. I think Sbarro's was a bit better than their slices. :( It was bland, looked like it was quickly thrown together despite it not being a busy moment, and just felt like I was getting an average experience overall. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful, but it just didn't make me want to come back. Ordered a medium pizza split in half with different toppings. Mighty Meat - included pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, and applewood smoked bacon. It was okay, just like any other meat lover pizza. Philosopher's Pie - included portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, olives (substituted for grilled onions), and grilled steak. The issue with this side was there was hardly any meat. Just because one side of the pizza had a lot of meat, doesn't make it okay for them to skimp out on putting meat on this side. There were barley any thin slices of beef underneath the cheese. This side also suffered from not having an even distribution of toppings. I do have to say that the crust is delicious, has Parmesan sprinkled on top. Hot Wings - Not hot at all, their hot wings are mild. What made it worse was when we got home we found they left out the celery and ranch dressing that's supposed to be included. read more

I came with a group and it was our first time in a pizza establishment like this. We were overwhelmed with all the different variety of pizzas. Our server recommended the House pizza (supreme). We also ordered a few apps; bbq wings, garlic bread and meatballs. The BBQ wings were good. The garlic bread was alright. It was a bit crunchier than what I expected but it was still good. The meatballs were really good. They had it skewered on a stick and in between them was a chunk of cheese, very chewy. The pizza was huge and delicious! I've only had Domino's, Pizza Hut and the likes all my life so this was life changing. The crust was so fluffy, it was unreal. Only drawback is the price. For a group of four, it was around $50. First time at Mellow Mushroom last weekend....I don't mind the location, it's in the new 'strip' in Arlington. Ordered a meatball sub on wheat bread. It was good,but not great. Maybe too many spices in the meatball..."where's the beef?" Didn't have a pizza, but had a calzone...but we had the steak and cheese version - reminded me of a Philly cheese steak. VERY GOOD. Now I hate to sound like a fatty...but it was a late lunch and I didn't have breakfast - so I wasn't full at the end of this meal. :( With all that bread, meat and cheese I thought I would be but no. And no, I'm not obese Also, we had the 5 chicken wing app - SMALLEST wings I've ever had. Nothing to write home about. All in all - I will go back.
