Our group stopped by Mellow Mushroom after walking around Boone to do some shopping. Boonerang (free music and arts festival) was happening at the time, but it was still early so not too crowded. The 2 Mellow Mushrooms near me in South Florida closed a while ago, so I have really missed it. We ordered the pretzel bites with cheese as a starter. They were yummy. We also ordered pizzas with 1/2 and 1/2. One with mighty meat lovers/Margerita and the other with pineapple and pepperoni and beef and jalepeno. The pizza was delicious! The crust was cooked perfectly. Maddie was our server. She was very sweet and personable. I took a visit to the bathroom (Flushroom), before I left. That was the only downside. I stopped at the Boone Mellow Mushroom during a road trip with my kids just looking for something easy to eat in the car on the way home. For whatever reason, a giant pizza felt like the perfect idea for what to eat while driving on the highway, and it totally was. Somewhere between the heavenly slices, the pepperonis slipping between the seats, and the occasional steering correction, it turned into another great Mellow Mushroom experience. We kept it simple with a cheese and pepperoni, but honestly, with that signature crust and next-level ranch, it was still a 12/10. Great dinner time! I enjoyed the food at this location. I usually find the locations in the mountains to be better than the ones in the city. While service can vary from location to location, you can always count on consistently yummy food at Mellow Mushroom. I don't frequent many chains, but this is one I have no problem choosing in my hometown or elsewhere as I know I am going to enjoy some delicious pizza. While in Boone for July 4th weekend, everywhere downtown had a wait. We decided Mellow was our best bet as it's a pretty big place and maybe would be less popular to tourists wanting a new Boone experience. They text you when your table is ready and it honestly only ended up being like 20 minutes. We were sat in a booth in the corner by the kitchen, which was nice as the place was jumping and kind of loud. Our waitress was very nice and overall attentive considering the crowd. They had a Grilled Chicken Cobb salad I hadn't seen at my local Mellow that my husband and I ordered as a starter to share. It was really good. Nicely cooked bacon pieces with big chunks of avocado and chicken. Wish there had a been a little more tomato, but that's nitpicking. Their Esperanza dressing went great with this salad, as it does with everything. We shared a medium Thai Dye as it's my husbands favorite. Tasty just like it is at other locations, nice amount of toppings and their crust really is the best. It's just a very fresh tasting pizza and don't know of another joint that has something like it. Try it if you never have. Sometimes it's not on the written/local menu, but they will generally make it for you if you ask. Do it! My cousin can't have dairy so he got the Mighty Meaty, but without cheese. There was so much meat on that pie I bet that helps one forget cheese is missing. I do appreciate that Mellow is so accommodating for all kinds of dietary restrictions. They can do gluten free crust, vegan cheese, and all other kinds of substitutions a person may need. Makes it a great place to go with a group and all can get something they want as everyone loves pizza. My only complaint on this visit was the bathrooms. In the Women's there was only one operating stall, which made the wait long. Also, the trash was overflowing with paper towels all over the floor. It was clear it had not been serviced in a while. As I said they were crazy busy, but when you are busy this is something you gotta stay on top of as it can really effect the customer experience. read more

Its a Saturday Lunchtime. Its not too busy at all. We were seated quickly and the server was there at the table within seconds. Impressive. A large party sat across from us and the MM seemed to be coping well with this. Our salads were up quickly. The food was of the highest quality. Beautiful and fresh tasting. A truly great job by the kitchen staff. My only grumble is that we didn't get a bread stick. In a place that specializes in bread based products, I did think we might see one, but alas, the corporate folks must be counting their pennies. Bathrooms need far better signage also. It's not cheap. Yes you generally get what you pay for but hamburgers at $17 for me, have to be orgasmic in order to command that sort of price in a college town. Love this place. I have been here many times and usually stop every time I travel up to Boone. When I first came here I did not know it was a chain, it gives you that local feel and has a really fun atomosphere. We came in here on a Sunday night over a holiday weekend, it was quite busy so we opted to eat at the bar. The decor is bright and fun, it would probably appeal more to kids though. I'm not sure if they had parking or not, but we opted to park in a town lot that was about a block away. We noticed they had some interesting drink specials, so we each went for the $6 margarita. Not too strong and pretty average quality drink. We ordered the pretzel bites with cheese, so delicious! If you do a Yelp check in, you get a coupon for free bites! I have noticed this promo is common at a lot of the Mellow Mushrooms that we have been to, so be on the lookout for it. We have had the bites before and know the portion is generous for 2 people, probably better to split between 3-4. We each ordered a side salad and one small pizza to split, we were stuffed by the end of our meal. All of the food came out fresh and fairly quickly considering how busy it was. Mellow Mushroom is good, though if you've been to one, you've been to all. I mean that as all of the food items are essentially the same. So nothing new to report here in that regard. As it relates to this specific location, the folks here are very friendly. They quickly accommodated this evening for a large group of both adults and children. Despite the size of our table, the food orders were all correct, and there were no issues with splitting up the checks individually. Prices are reasonable. Would definitely consider coming back with a large group! Regarding food choices, today I did something out of the norm and did not order pizza or beer as I dined out (confession: had yesterday). Instead, I had a lil (small) spinach salad (spinach, pecans, feta, dried cranberries with balsamic vinaigrette) and bowl of the mushroom soup. Salad was , as always; the soup was alright but not what I was expecting. The consistency was more like a "cream of mushroom" soup, and instead I was hoping it would be more broth-like with whole or sliced mushrooms. The soup was good enough for me to finish but I will probably never order it ever again. Next time, I'll definitely stick to my Kosmic Karma with a local craft beer on the side. Regarding atmosphere, I think it's nice. It is more open than other locations I've attended. We parked right outside on street parking (paid meter - does accept credit cards). We ordered pretzel bites with beer cheese. A local beer on draft (BooneShine Tropical). The boyfriend and I caught the Wednesday special today and we were super impressed. $2 1 topping slices ( some toppings cost more) and $3 draft pints, what a great steal. They have local beers and many mainstream craft choices on tap. We ordered a total of 3 slices with pepperoni, artichoke hearts, and a bacon/onion combo slice. Our slices were pretty large, and at first required a knife and fork to wrangle. No complaints on the value vs. size, and I think the yummy extra cheese lead to the knife and fork situation. If variety is what you are looking here for a draft beer, look no further. We popped in for a bite before dinner and actually gobbled up the meatball appetizer. They were awesome. Likely a local watering hole for AppState students who can pony up $5 for craft beer and pricier pizza. Service was prompt and attentive. One Caveat: If sharing a pizza with others, ask that the pieces be sliced in equal portions. Our chef must have failed geometry in high school.
