do not do business with Mel's flooring. They are untruthful regarding their product and the installation is horrible. our flooring looks like we are in the middle of an ocean. very wavy. Their work around the trim is bad. I have complained for several years but they refuse to stand behind their shoddy work. Stay away! read more

I've used this company twice in the past 5 years. Mike was my sales man and he was always helpful and attentive. He was patient while I explored options and made decisions. My first project was just a small walk in closet that needed a remnant 5 years ago, it had started to ripple under the door. They fixed it and restretched the carpet at no extra charge when they came and installed carpet in our upstairs. My only minor complaint is that the installers didn't put furniture back neatly and a rug that I lay down under the bed and over the carpet because it's pretty and owned when we lived in a different house that had wood flooring. It could have been due to my husband though. He was home and insisted on helping to speed up the project (he wanted to the carpet installed on his days off from work) so I could see him telling the installers not to worry about it. I can't help my husband fix this now with our large king size bed and the rug. read more

we bought laminated flooring and had it installed by their installer. He did a very good job and even help move some things. We have ceramic at the bottom of the stairs that buts up to the laminate. It is about a half an inch higher than laminate and a tripping hazard. Installer said he was not told to fix it.. when we called they sent someone to measure it. we were told it would be fixed. That is the last we heard. It was never fixed. read more

We bought our wood flooring from Mel's and used a installer that they recommended . Mark was very pleasant and stated many times if there was a problem he would return and fix it , well there was a problem and he did come back and looked at it but that was the last time we saw him! Kristin came to our house (in Galena) and measured for carpeting. We later went to the showroom, chose carpet and agreed on an installation date. We paid about half of the invoice upfront, as they asked. The sub-contractor installer, Steve, arrived on time and got right to work. Then we realized Mel's hadn't sent any of the trim pieces that were on the invoice. So we made a trip to Dubuque to Mel's to get them, but there they told us they don't sell them and Kristen may get them and she'd call us. That never happened. We returned home to Steve showing us that the carpet was cut too short for the living room and he'd have to piece it together. Then we saw that Mel's sent the wrong weight carpet. It was the same color but a lighter weight density and not what we'd chosen. I called Mel's and was told Kristen would call me back. She didn't. A while later Mike from Mel's called the installer and told him they have our carpet in stock and they'd cut it and could he drive over there and get it, which he did. The installer, Steve did a fantastic job. Couldn't be happier with his installation. When we got the invoice for the balance I wasn't surprised to see they charged us for the trim we never got. I called Mike at Mel's, who agreed to remove the trim charges, and he had nothing but excuses for their errors. read more

Mel's Carpet Outlet has the BEST customer service in the Tri-State & Dubuque area!We haven't even had our flooring installed yet and I'm so impressed with their services so far! They are a local family owned business. My first meeting with them was a few days ago. I met Kristin, the owners daughter. We set up a time for her to come out today. She was 15 minutes early! She was in and out and said she'd be in touch with me today or tomorrow at the latest!! I was so taken aback by her exceptional customer service the first time I met her. She's knowledgeable, no nonsense and professional!! We were in there on Saturday and met Mike who is in sales. Again, a wonderful, personable guy with great knowledge and customer service expertise. There's no pressure, no tacky sales maneuvers, just a great environment. They want us to be happy with our purchase. They have a huge selection of flooring, tiles, window coverings. I told Kristin that we dealt with a different family owned carpet store here in Dubuque that was a complete nightmare and we were totally taken advantage of by them and they could have cared less. Don't go anywhere but Mel's Carpet Outlet in Dubuque! You will not regret it! Service like you'll receive at Mel's Carpet Outlet is very hard to come by! read more
