No appointments are required. If you have a preferred stylist, it could be a little bit of a wait but make sure you voice that when you arrive so that you're accommodated accordingly. Cash payments are preferred and they do not accept American Express. You can use contactless pay options as well. I've found that from start to finish I don't wait a long time. Of course there will be peak and off peak times so plan appropriately for the wait. There are places nearby that you can grab a bite to eat before or during your service to avoid being hangry. Parking is along a busy street and there is a lot across the street and around the corners at no fee. Whenever I'm in Chicago and I need my hair washed, Mina's comes through for me. I haven't had color or other intricate hair services done here. Wash, deep conditioner and the occasional trimming of my hair. They'll even pin it up for you to retain your curls if you have an event and trying to preserve your hair. I've worn my hair natural my whole life is to basically the bottom of my neck long healthy I had it dyed because it was going gray 3 weeks before. On my birthday I went in to have it blown out because I was told I needed a trim and it had to be straightened. I was told by the men at this salon that when I washed it it would go back to my natural curls which is what I wanted. The next Sunday I came in because I was nervous about washing it myself and what it would come out like so I went back there to have them wash it a week later. Washing it and conditioning it it came out wavy and straight there were no curls. I was so freaked out I didn't even know what to say and they straightened it again and I paid and left. Praying that it would go back to my natural curls. After 10 days I washed it again same thing. I have now washed it twice since I feel like my natural hair is gone. It is only completely straight. This is not what I wanted this is not what I was told. I tip them upon $80 I gave them $45 and I'm sorry $100 almost 50% tip and then when I came back the next time it was $60 and I gave them because there was no trim it was just a blowout and I gave them $60 and I gave them 50% which was $30. And my hair will never go back to what it was as far as I was told by two other salons they damage your hair because the heat was too hot.. When I call them which is today and told them hey you damaged my hair I've watched it this many times it's not going back to curly it's just straight and wavy and unless I put rollers in it or flatten it or something it's a mess it just doesn't go back to naturally curly like it used to. Chemo that's how you pronounce his name, told me then you shouldn't have come back the second time. F*** these people I will never recommend any black woman to go into this place and have your hair damaged if it is natural. read more

I went to Mena's for several months, primary due to convenience. However when I went back to my normal stylist we discovered that some type of product to relax hair had been applied to my hair. This was done without my knowledge or consent. Prior to this, I had not had chemicals to relax my hair in 20+ years. Since this has happened I have experienced severe(!) hair loss and shedding. For a salon to apply products that permanently change a client's hair without authorization is a violation of trust. If you decide to go to Menas I recommend bringing your own products or checking each product they use before it is placed on your hair. The product was likely placed in my hair when I thought I was getting a deep conditioner. read more

Tony is great! He does a fantastic job on natural hair and he does not use too much heat. He dries the hair without burning the scalp or drying out the hair. He is fast and personable. I find it disturbing that they charge clients based on hair texture while providing inadequate service and disregarding customer experience. I've only been twice and witnessed arguments amidst 2 stylist and the public which is extremely unprofessional. While doing both of my daughter's hair, the stylist showed excessive aggression and insensitivity by repeatedly yanking their hair from root to tangle without even successfully detangling their hair. Each time I intervened, he would temporarily stop, only to resume his behavior when I looked away. This was an extremely unpleasant experience. Do not recommend. I went to Menas last Friday for a blow dry and flat iron (hair was already washed & conditioned) I called before coming and was told they were not busy and would be able to sit right down. I live maybe 5 minutes away so I came 10 minutes later and they were BUSY. I ended up waiting 1hr and 20 mins before I started to get blow dried. By then my hair was completely dry so the blow dryer hurt really bad going through my hair. The stylist suggested I get a trim since my ends were not even, I told him I just got a trim in January but he can clip just the frayed ends. He chopped my hair by 2 inches and made the left side of my hair shorter than the right. It's like he cut layers into my side with the bang and I did not want that at all. I was so frustrated I cried because I could not believe he did this to me. The manager then made a million excuses for his employee's lack of knowledge on trimming hair. He still charged me for the style even though they messed me up and was completely in tears. It was a traumatizing experience and no one should go to this location. To add they didn't even have smocks for their clients and did not even sanitize any chairs before the next customer sat. I will never return and the manager did nothing to compensate me. read more

I went here a few months ago and they did a horrible job. It seems like the new workers they bringing in don't know how to deal with NATURAL HAIR. When one of the stylists was done with my hair it looked like it was just blow-dried when I asked for a silk press and then they upcharge me because my hair was natural and long I always go there and they only charge me $55. Came into the city to visit family from Italy for Christmas. I usually have or prefer a Dominican hair stylist to straighten and do my hair because they are able to get it bone straight and I never have to pay a lot for what I want. I received a wash and blow out from Joe and it was amazing. He also trimmed my ends. I only paid $55. I went on a day where I guess they weren't busy but the service was pretty good and I was happy with how my hair turned out. Didnt have a good experience AT ALL I also tried the mena's in indiana pretty much the same across the board. When detangling my hair they didn't wet it and they started from the root ripping my hair out till the comb was able to go through no matter how much I flinched or jerked my head but advertise to black women... It's best to start from the end and work your way up when working with courser hair. When I came I stated what I wanted and the heavy language barrier got in the way they were telling me things " I needed to get " like it was free and when I asked the lady was it a extra charge since you guys are offering it and that's not what I came for the only thing that was repeated back to me was " deep condition " like what?? So I just said whatever okay, wasn't even under the dryer 15 minutes but the " deep condition " was a extra $15. I Called in advance to see about pricing because their always trying to over charge me which they did again. My total went from $65 to $100 and I wasn't even satisfied. They also preferred me to pay cash i'm assuming so I couldn't dispute the charge since I hate my hair. As much as I hear about clients being serviced here, I would have never thought I would have this such of an horrible experience. The wait time was horrible! I came in for a wash, highlights and styled and left out with dissatisfaction. I asked for a few highlights and once finished the "highlighted color" over took my natural hair color ...I fucking hate it! So bad, I want to cry while writing this!!!! The styling is out of date and think the stylist should consider learning new styling techniques and styles and not the late 80's early 90's cults and I don't like how I didn't even get a style similar to what I've asked... In town on family emergency and needed just a wash/style. I Yelped the area and found Mena's. Read the reviews, called and walked in. They weren't busy at all and it felt like family when I walked in. Got washed by one guy, blow dried by another, and finally Fayza styled my hair. 4 stars instead of 5 because I prefer no more than 2 people to complete a wash/style. I also wasn't sure why I got a steam condition right before my hair was blown out. I didn't like the roller brush, but that's their style. I will speak up next time. Fayza had instant chemistry with my hair and it reflects in the pictures. She was appreciative that I allowed her to style my hair because most clients request the set curls not to be fluffed out. VERY DISAPPOINTED! I went to this location because Dee Dee at the Matteson location was off. I really needed to get me and my daughter's hair done. This location is much smaller than the Matteson location and not as busy as that location either. I am not used to have three different people work on my hair, a shampooer, a blow dryer, and then a stylist. Not everyone can do a good job on my daughter's hair because it is long and thick (very thick). I was pleased with my hair, but was not happy with my daughter's hair. Also they take their sweet little time. They stop doing hair to have conversations with one another. What made matters worse, was the pricing is not the same as the Matteson location, Apparently this location charges more for having natural hair. (Never heard of that before). On Tuesdays it is supposed to be $10 off of your services. My total came to $90 for both of our hair (wash and blow dry). The guy tried to make me feel better by saying I got $10 off and saved an extra $5 for paying cash. I did not have time to debate with him about the cost, so I paid it and made sure he knew I would NOT be back! read more
