We decided to get the tie elsewhere. I can't imagine anyone of my under thirty year old friends as regular customer of this label but that is just my youthful opinion about their target group based on the safe looking designs.

When they were still a small independent label found in slightly off-the-beaten-track corners of London, I actually thought they were different and quite cool. The display of antique sewing machines is no longer original once you have seen it at Westfields - and actually quite an insult considering that this used to be the site of part of Portobello's famous antique arcades. Products range from children's wear to home pieces. Wooden floors, wooden hangars and wooden vintage furniture mixed with new collections all create a general look - as if from a different era. They also carry lots of labels - Sigerson Morrison "belle" shoes - which I am a big fan of and downstairs is the men's shop called "The Garbstore" with more designer lines. It turns out it's home to designer, Nicholas Ashley, son of interior desginer, Laura Ashley. And after my first visit this week, jury's in: I really like his stuff. The look is kind of a chic-meets-outdoorsy... basically, the wardrobe of the average London yupster. I appreciated his use of workaday fabrics, like the canvas peacoat and rough cotton suit pieces. My husband was most attracted to the shoes--several pairs of work boots among them. They have this nifty fabric-like material on the bottom, that I assume helps make them less slippery. All in all, I think Ashley Stores is a nice addition to the Notting Hill shopping scene.

I say that because this location shows on Google maps, but not Yelp. Anyways.. Evisu is a brand that primarily focuses on Japanese selvage denim. I've personally always wanted a pair for reasons too extensive to mention in this review. While I was in London, I thought it would be a great opportunity to finally pick a pair up. Finding the store itself was a little difficult, it's not on a main street. This little shop claims to be Evisu's flagship shop in London despite its small boutique size. Although small, they offer quite a large selection of jeans and even some other apparel. They even have their own in house artisan painter to customize your jeans for you. Unfortunately, I found the cut I wanted, but not the color. I was informed by the friendly employees that it would take 7 days to customize, and they will not ship. I was only in London for 4 more days from the day I visited. After several attempts to negotiate a method of transaction, I was a bit devastated to leave the shop empty handed. I will definitely be back again unless Evisu decides to open a shop over here on the West Coast.
