Every angle had breathtaking views of the mountains, and it was one of those places where you just stop and take everything in. We loved walking around and exploring the little shops, each one adding to the charm of the town. The scenery was stunning everywhere you looked, with the mountains making the whole experience feel surreal and peaceful at the same time. Sure it is pricey and touristy...but dam it is cute and romantic. Plenty to do and see. Highly recommend the $75 pass that gets you the train ride to the glaciers, the needle gondola to the glaciers, and the high speed lift on the other side for hiking.....it will keep you busy all day and you will be able to hike on a Glacier. Bucket list place.

The views of the water, mountains, and city together are beautiful, especially at night when the fountain is lit up. Great for photos and just soaking in the atmosphere.

When in Zermatt, be sure not to miss out on this little street. Even though it's just one left turn…read moreaway from the "Bahnhofstrasse" and right smack in the middle of the village, you might easily miss it, since the first few meters do not look like you might picture it. But then after a few steps the old wooden buildings will pop up. They are dated back to the 16th Century....making them around 500 years old. Mostly they are made from larch wood, containing lots of resin, which makes them very strong and also keeps away parasites. Many of the buildings are still inhabited and used. So be respectful to the buildings and its owners and keep the noise level low. Between some buildings you even can catch a great view of the Matterhorn (on your right when walking down). Of course there are always visitors present, but if you're just a bit patient and wait a few minutes you can get some pics without anybody on it. Most visitors rush through this place. But if possible, take your time to fully appreciate this part of Zermatt.

Although the it is a beautiful hike, the cable-car is a much faster, cozy, and convenient (especially during the winter) option. Once at the fort, there are a variety of fun and cultural activities.

There's much to see and do here, and arriving is easy via the nearby Ouchy-Olympique M2 Metro stop. Our family of three enjoyed strolling through the tree-lined park spaces, playing on the large ship-shaped playscape, getting a snack at the food stand, contemplating some interesting sculptures and architecture, seeing the boats arrive & depart, avoiding large seabirds, admiring the adjacent 12th century Château d'Ouchy, and watching a few matches of chess & checkers.
