A great neighborhood mercado (market) in the Colombian area of Roma. We ate some shrimp soup and a garlic shrimp platter for lunch and it was good but not great. We enjoyed roaming around and shopping here. All of the people we talked to were friendly and inviting. read more

Love this market because its easy to find and very clean. if youre looking for seafood, meat, or candles/incense, this spot is for you. i wish they had more jewelery and artwork at these vendors. its not as big as other markets, but i feel it has great snacks and things to take home. read more

In A Nutshell: -Mercado de Medellin is one of many mercados you'll find in CDMX. -I really like this one b/c it's smaller & easy to navigate. -You have your typical produce, meats, snacks, knick knacks & food stalls here. -You also have a Cuban ice cream stand called Chan Chan, which was the main reason why I bookmarked this on Google Maps (honest plug: don't use Yelp it's not as good as Google Maps). -The people I encountered at all the stands were friendly & not pushy, which I like. There's not much more I enjoy in my travels as a visit to a market. I love the baskets of colorful produce, wondering why in the USA we refrigerate everything while plucked chickens around the world just hang out on hooks in room temp air all day and even the smell of questionable fish in the corner. Mercado de Medellin isn't the largest market, but it is fairly big and you can meander through sections both indoors and outside around the perimeter and peruse the goods. You can get keys made, fix your shoes, buy some seafood soup (not questionable), or get a taco. Right in the city and easy to get to. I went on Sunday and not everything was open, but still enough to browse and kill time. read more

Wonderful market. Not all the vendors are open at the same time if you go during the week at a random time of day, but you will find great produce, lots of meat, fresh fruit, and food to order. I had some of the most amazing food just outside the Mercado de Medellin on the street. Two women make food just outside. You order whatever you want them to stuff the sortes/gorditas. I think they may be called tlacoyo, as they are a Mexico City specialty made of blue corn. They cost about 15 pesos and are to to die for (and are very filling). read more

I did enjoy this Mercado, it was a very authentic experience in a safe neighborhood of Mexico City and it was filled with colorful fruits and Peppers and raw meats for sale, a good selection of places where you could dine. I will def. one back and hope you visit. We ended up eating at this Cuban stall that this Cuban guy was operating and it was straight out the most delicious fried chicken I've ever had in my life, I mean the flavor was just unreal, crunchy, perfectly salted and just delicious to the first degree, I'd go back just to eat there again, absolutely great fried chicken , afterwards we enjoyed some ice cream at a stall that faces the street outside, it was good, beautiful market, check it out ! read more

This is my favorite neighborhood market in the city. Sure, it may not be the most beautiful or the biggest, but the variety of merchandise and the freshness of the food is pretty much unbeatable. Also, it's very easy to get to. Worth mentioning are Meche y Rafael, a large stall specialized in selling top quality meat. They also prepare carnitas on weekends! Cremería Lupita, almost on the opposite end is another fave and always have very fresh cheese (Oaxaca, authentic Menonita and Cotija, for instance), cream and cecina. Across the aisle is Helados Palmeiro, the best ice cream in the neighborhood. Try the caramel one... it's simply delish! The flower section is colorful and great. Alas, I have to admit that two of my favorite "marchands" have closed their stalls (or sold them, more likely). Still, there's always fresh and beautiful finds. The guys at the El Conde de Medellin Cofee shop make some of the best coffee in the area, with single origin coffees from Mexico and Latin America being my favorite... Yet their non-poser attitude seems a far cry from all the coffee joints anywhere else in the neighborhood (a very good thing, trust me!) Let's not forget the food! La Morenita serves ceviches and seafood year round and may well be the best place to nurse a hangover. Tacos Los Canarios has been open since 1969 at the same spot and was recently reviewed by The New York Times! Their veggie "taco tarasco" is made with a whole ancho chile grilled with cheese. If you want something on the fresh side, across the aisle you'll find Las Delicias, a juice and smoothie place where (it may not seem to you at first glance) they keep good hygiene standards. They also make fruit salads. In need of a haberdashery? This is the place you want to head, as well! In all, a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Don't miss it! Perhaps you, too, will be hooked on the fact that many of the merchants have chosen to take their trades very seriously and that has given the place more depth and authenticity. read more

I love this Mercado. Definitely the best one in the Roma/Condesa vicinity. A great variety of stands and items but still small enough to enjoy, not feel rushed or overwhelmed. And some of the best tacos you can find in CDMX too, as a cherry on top! read more

I stopped by Mercado Roma prior to coming here and I have to say, I might like Mercado de Medellin more even for an authentic Latin American market experience. When I was there on a Sunday, it wasn't overcrowded unlike Mercado de San Juan, and had one of the most amazing varieties of fruits and vegetables that I've seen. They had a ton of jugos/agua fresca options which smelled delicious (I'll have to come back for them next time), as well as an asian grocery, lots of Colombian items (i.e. Inca kola) and a fun assortment of pinatas (including a stripper on a pole...not joking). I also read that the place is known for its ice cream...I will definitely return here! read more

To Medellin market has a large central area, sort of like a gymnasium, full of food vendors and a few restaurants. At one side there is a totally cheap and excellent food court, and other random shops of every kind line the outside. Breakfast and lunch is here are crazy cheap. Just try any place that looks popular and you will probably do well. Definitely recommend it. read more
