From the minute I stepped into Mercat Bistro, I fell in love with the Parisian vibe of the restaurant. The decor and ambiance makes you feel as though you're dining at a café on the streets of Paris. I came here for Sunday brunch with a friend and had a delicious meal and impeccable service from start to finish. We started off with a mimosa carafe because is it really brunch without mimosas?? We decided to share the ricotta & honeycomb appetizer which was divine! I loved the sweetness of the ricotta which paired perfectly with the local honeycomb. So good! For our entrée, I decided to go with the Green Chile Crepe and my friend ordered the Quiche Lorraine. The crepe was cooked perfectly and the green chiles gave it a nice, slow heat. The mornay sauce on top was creamy and was delicious with the scrambled eggs and green chile. My friend's quiche was so silky and soft! Each bite was perfect and light. Highly recommend both dishes. Brunch was great at Mercat and I hear amazing things about their flaming pasta wheel. I definitely need to come back to try that sometime soon! read more

Solid lunch spot with cute outdoor seating! Have been here a couple times and always enjoy it. Service is friendly and professional and the food is on point. The Ricotta & Honey is DELICIOUS. The ricotta is made in-house and it's so fresh and yummy! Goes really well with the marmalade and bread. Also a big fan of their salmon, which you can add to any of the salads. It's a pretty generous portion and the cook on it is excellent. I've had it with the Lentil and Bibb Salads. The Lentil Salad has good flavors, but the lentils could've been cooked longer. Would have also loved a little more green in the salad to have made my meal a bit more of a lunch salad. The Bibb Salad is fairly standard. A tad overdressed, but still tasty, and goes well with the salmon. If you're in the area and need a nicer but affordable lunch spot, Mercat Bistro is a good option. Really good service and decent food. We came for a group brunch on a Saturday. We were seated in the remote part which is kind of a covered patio type thing. The manager and waiter were pretty attentive it and took good care of us. I got the crab Benedict and a friend got the lobster roll. Both were a little light on the meat but overall good quality. One thing that is crazy weird for a venue of this size is they have ONE restroom. Not like one restroom with multiple toilets but like ONE toilet for the entire place. A friend dining with us said it was bc they grew organically and just kept expanding their space but that still seems crazy. It wasn't packed when we were there and even then there were lines at the door. The cappuccinos and coffee are also good. They have a crazy decanter if you get a bottle of red that is worth seeing! It looked like a candy cane with extra roller coaster loops if that makes any sense. All in all a good meal with good people. Ambiance is top notch. read more

A friend of mine has been telling me for YEARS to try the brunch here. I finally took her advice and made a last-minute reservation about an hour before we went. To my surprise, there were plenty of reservations available on such short notice, yet lots of people were walking up without one and being told to wait. What I loved: - The ambiance is so cute. - The PASTRY BASKET omggggg. I asked the waiter what it included, and he pointed to the pastries on the counter behind us and said it would be four of them including the massive cinnamon roll. I couldn't say "yes yes we want that" fast enough. We were coming off an unintended fast (COVID booster malaise the day before) and starrrrving. So yes, two people split four massive pastries as a STARTER. I'm sure it's actually intended to feed more than two people. Also, word to the wise: they sold out of the cinnamon buns quickly, and I saw pastry baskets going out later with duplicate croissants. I feel bad for those people. We were eating at 12:15 pm, so you don't have to get there SUPER early or anything -- but don't order the pastry basket at 1 pm onward, I guess, or it might not be as luscious. - The duck baguette was divine. Rich and a lot of food (though frankly could have used a bit more duck), but divine. The waiter told me that they braise the duck for 8 hours in-house, and it's phenomenal. I almost didn't finish it, put it down for a while, sipped more prosecco, and then decided I could finish it after all. I didn't eat anything else all day, I was so stuffed, lol. But it was 100% worth it. What could have been better: - I don't have many complaints, honestly. The cocktail menu isn't my thing...it's mostly sweet drinks for girls who don't really like the taste of liquor. But their prosecco by the glass is quite nice and on the drier side. They also have a full bar if you want something off-menu, although my partner didn't really love his G&T (and how can you mess that up??). - He also got the croque monsieur, which was nice but not as good as the duck baguette. read more

I went there for a morning business meeting. The manager Jennifer rudely instructed us that we had 45 minutes to eat because they wanted to serve more people! My food was great but there was a hair in my friends omelette. Despite asking for hot coffee and tea, the waitress brought warm drinks out. When I asked her for hot tea she gave me an annoying look. I hadn't been back in almost 3 years, so I decided to venture out again. We got a Saturday dinner reservation and were seated right away on arrival. However, service spiraled from there. It seemed that there were only 3 waiters for the whole restaurant, so they were understaffed. But unfortunately, we felt neglected for a majority of our meal. What we got: - half-dozen east coast oysters: can't go wrong with fresh oysters. The horseradish didn't taste super fresh and was a little more moist than I usually like. - braised escargot (lardons, cepes, red wine jus, maitre d' butter): I usually love escargot, but unfortunately, this one was... not good. I am used to escargot coming in the little escargot plate, but this one comes in a soupy form. And the soup was more bitter and salty than I expected. The cepes mushroom were nice, but the escargot was unremarkable. - pan roasted foie gras (strawberry balsamic gastrique, cocoa nibs, brioche): This was a delicious appetizer! The foie was super soft, fatty, complemented the brioche and sweet gastrique. - melon & frisee salad (orange vinaigrette, avocado, pistachio, shaved fennel): Very fresh, lovely salad. Great palate cleanser with the citrus notes. - pistachio-crusted rack of lamb (english peas, rainbow carrots, mint demi): for something that costs almost $70, we would expect an excellent entree. But definitely did not live up to expectations. First off, the meat came out a little cooled down, rather than warm. It was cooked medium rare, as we'd asked but more on the rare side. - side of broccolini Our server Pete really tried, but unfortunately did not deliver on the level of service we'd expect from Mercat Bistro. He walked past us several times without checking in with us, dropped off dishes and disappeared until our next course came out, left our table empty for almost 30 minutes before our entree was ready. We also had to ask the general manager for our glasses of wine that we had asked to be brought out with our entree. I wasn't a huge fan of this place, but there was some positives. We came for a close friend of mine's birthday brunch and enjoyed the company if not anything. Our waiter, Mario, did an excellent job and made out visit pleasant. The one thing that I will say is that the decor for their holiday season was magnificent. It made for great picture taking at the conclusion of our visit. For brunch, I had a simple dish: egg, honey almond croissant, and sausage. The price for the meal was too high for no specific reason. I really cannot stand restaurants that hike up prices for the sake of hiking prices. Let's be honest, the meal I had wasn't tough to conjure up, yet you'd think you were getting something sent from the gods. The one thing I enjoyed the most was their drink, the Peche Mignon. That was a pretty refreshing drink. If for anything, come for the Peche Mignon. I enjoyed the frozen fruitball for sure. read more

I had heard great things about this place. When you walk up to it, it's very lively. You notice right away all of the beautiful outside seating and large chess set outside next to the restaurant. We definitely had to play a game after brunch. I went up to the hostesses and told them about my reservation time for two people. It was so loud there that I had a hard time hearing what the hostess had said to me. After a few minutes I had to wait in line to ask her again what she said. She said I could be seated once the rest of my party got here. My boyfriend was literally right next to me when I checked in. So I was not very happy about that, because other people had been seated before us since I had to wait back in line. But anyways, once we eventually got to our table at the inside patio, we had a nice view of the outside seating area and part of inside. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The waiter said they have a full expresso bar (since it's not on the menu or website. We ordered two coffees. I had a mocha cappuccino and my boyfriend had an americano. Mine was super tasty. The cream in it tasted so fresh. For our brunch entrees, I had the Quiche Lorraine which comes with a side of fries. The eggs were nice and fluffy. I also liked the crust. But I thought it wasn't that flavorful. Plus, it looked like someone had taken a bite. But that was probably just from putting the quiche on the plate. I haven't had that many quiches in my life tho, so it was probably the best one I have had. However, I would not get it again. My boyfriend got the french breakfast. I got to try his potato galette and sausage. I loved both. He found a sticker on the tomato when he was eating. No big deal, but glad he found it before eating it. I'll let him order for me next time. I liked the vibe and location, but it was way too loud and very expensive. I'll give them another chance tho. 4/5 stars for now until my next review read more

Unfortunately, Mercat Bistro is another has-been Dallas restaurant. Pre-pandemic, I enjoyed its delicious, classic takes on French bistro menu items. Mussels served in white wine, shallots and herbs, escargot served in the dimpled ceramic escargot platter, or classic onion soup could for an hour or two transport me to a cozy cafe in Paris. Recently, I brought my family back to Mercat to have a fun French themed meal prior to seeing Les Miserables, and was hoping for a repeat of my previous experiences with the meal. We started with escargot, which came in a soup bowl filled with something that resembled a thickened soup, and had an earthy flavor which I would describe as very bland. Not a hint of garlic or butter, or even a satisfying salty brine. My mussels came next, and were dried out and flavorless. I thought the broth could help revive them, but it also lacked flavor, and was not worthy of the 2 small baguette pieces provided to soak it up. I could go on with other entree menu items ordered, but will spare you... it doesn't get any better. Finally, we ended with some creme brulee and bread pudding for the table, which ended up being Mercat's only saving grace. All in all, the experience was a disappointment, as it failed to come close to the experience I had with Mercat had been at the beginning. Sadly, this seems to follow the natural progression of Dallas restaurants, where has beens are put out to pasture and linger a few years before they are replaced with Dallas' diners obsession with the newest, trendiest spot. Went back a second time and service was much better! Almost a 5-10 minute wait for each item! Our server, Tim, was very attentive, even educating us at times about the foods! Here's what we ordered. -Cheese wheel pasta. This is where the server heated up the wheel with a flame and melted the cheese. After that, he mixed in the pasta. This is my first time trying pasta like this, and it was so warm and creamy. Fun fact: Tim said that this is the only place in Dallas where you can get pasta like this! -Peche mignon. Still love the concept of frozen fruit slowly melting into my drink -Whole chicken. I liked the asparagus and cauliflower. I would say the chicken is a bit dry, but the portion of the chicken was great for two people (+ leftovers!). -Cheesecake. Rich, dense, and creamy! I love everything about this place from the ambience, to the interior and exterior seating, plus the brunch and mimosas are great. I ordered the banana foster french toast, and I was not disappointed at all. Everything is plated so nicely (perfect for your instagram and snapchat) and the environment is great for brunch with your friends or a dinner date with your significant other. The ambiance was busy and the interior is very nice. Very much on theme. Service was good, attentive and friendly. However, the food is pretty mediocre. Not much can be said about the flavour. I had to drown my omelette with hot sauce. The potato side was hard on the outside and barely cooked on the inside. Neither the omelette nor the potatoes had seasoning.
