They have fantastic leather bags, trunks, shoes, jackets, clothes for both men and women and definitely a great shop worth visiting to wander and snoop around. I spied the most adorable backpack in the world, seriously it was tiny, not even a foot tall in an Aztec pattern, for less than $20 dollars, even despite the euro to dollar conversion. It a small shop but very rich with offerings and it's reasonably priced, not one of those vintage shops where things are overblown and out of range. My husband saw a jacket and though it was a bit too worn, the leather on that thing was a sight to gape at. Awesome little shop full of wonder.

I love vintage shopping and have a large wardrobe of collector's items. The day before we were in Antichita' Carnovale and spent over $2,000.00 dollars on bags. I was so excited to visit Abiti Usati because I had such a wonderful experience at the other shop the day before. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely older woman and we looked around a bit but wanted to see what else we could find. Next door was an extension of the shop and the owner refused to let us in. He said they were the same things and would allow us to enter and turned us away for no reason. I have never felt so awful and below someone in my entire life. I love Italy having lived here twice. I also love Rome and have bragged how wonderful the people are. The owner made me cry and ruined that moment on my last day of this trip. I would love to tell him just how awful he made me feel and the business he turned away as we were looking to purchase 7 leather jackets, a luxury piece of luggage, and a fur. Would not recommend to anyone because regardless of your opinion of Americans, we were treated like second class citizens, and being a good person is part of running a respectable business.

There are unique pieces like Daffy Duck bell bottoms and countless designer vintage items. Everything is reasonably priced, though some pieces are not for sale. The store is like a costume shop and a playground. The owner, Elio, is incredibly friendly and cooky in the most charming way. He shared his love of Fellini and brought out pieces he thought would look good on my friend and I. We all drank wine and played dress up! He suggested an orange 1980s Valentino dress that fit me like a glove and nearly gave it to me. One of my favorite parts of my trip to Rome!

Though I'd read that Rome's Monti district was hip and very popular, the route I took from the…read moretrain station to my rental apartment didn't convince me: tourist restaurants and tchotchke shops galore. After a few days traipsing to Rome's other districts I was overjoyed to find the heart of Monti and realize it was exactly as I'd read. MercatoMonti was my destination but getting there was the reward. Walking down a street different than that I'd come in on I learned that the area was indeed filled with authentic shops, vintage stores, and intriguing looking cafes, bars, and restaurants. Be still, heart. Sitting amongst all of that is MercatoMonti, a converted parking garage (now part of a hotel) that's used on the weekend as an up-market shopping (non-food/drink) destination. Not a grand affair, but one with maybe 50 vendors, it proved a hugely successful place in which to part with a large wad of euro. Vendors hawked stylish, unique products, much of them hand-crafted. Stylish sunglass frames from the '80s updated with new Ray Ban lenses (90euro), leather/canvas backpack (80euro), a felt coat (70euro), and a camouflage jacket (40euro); clearly I needed to return to my apartment to stow away my bounty. Many of the vendors are "cash only" but there's ATMs nearby. The great thing about MercatoMonti, in addition to the good shopping opportunity, is that it puts you right in the thick of Monti. I'm surprised it's not rated more highly on yelp but I liked it. If you've got the urge to spend, MercatoMonti is a nice, hip place in which to do so.

Merchants are very friendly and the ones I talked to actually were selling their own products. I found the selection to be quite odd however, like handmade kimonos, next to silky scarves, bulky jewelry, urban-style lamps, umbrellas and canvas bags. Prices are low and I did find two great items. Bottom line: great to check out if you are in the neighborhood but I would not go here specifically to see the market.
