If I was going to rate it any lower it would be from the smell of truffles that seems to be ever-present these days in most food establishments in Italy. Pro-tip- The bar in the center of the joint has a bunch of Valentino Rossi paraphernalia, so this tells me that if you're ever in Florence when Moto GP is on, you might want to check this place out for a drink while the race is on. They have food vendors inside as well. The entire place is interesting and clearly been around a long time. It was about 2/3 populated with vendors, so there were plenty of empty spaces. Overall, it's one of the very few things to see/do in Livorno. There isn't a lot going on in this town otherwise.

It's always a pleasure to walk around and soak in the local experience. There are a number of places to eat and I would recommend 2 restaurants to try in the market. In my fantasies, I bicycle to this market every day for provisions, which I then cook in my beautiful apartment overlooking the square. In reality, we circled the market several times, wishing we each had three stomachs so we could try everything in sight. We did a tasting of balsamic vinegars at Monari Federzoni, led by a lovely and knowledgeable young lady who spoke excellent English. Then we ate delicious little meatballs glazed in balsamic with sweet and sour onions, and tortellini with parmesan cream, washed down with Lambrusco - a five star experience if I ever had one!
