Outdoor markets are my thing so whenever traveling abroad, I seek them out. It's so much fun to see the various types of fresh fruit and veggies available, many unique varieties. There was a type of radicchio I'd never seen before. And so many olives! But it's also challenging because you are limited in what and how much you can. It unless you are staying at a VRBO. Same with all of the olive oils, aged balsamic vinegars, pesto, jarred tomatoes, olives, regional pastas, meats and cheeses. OMG, I wanted it all! Since I love to cook and mostly cook Italian, it was pure torture! I did buy Parmigiana Reggiano aged 60 months because the taste and price was too good to pass up. But I didn't have room in my suitcase - weight wise - to buy the olive oil, aged balsamic and other food items I wanted. They had the typical tourist souvenirs like scarves, aprons, ceramic bowls, and a wonderful assortment of olive wood charcuterie boards and serving utensils. I collect them but didn't buy any because the prices were the same or higher than what I find at Trader Joe's or Marshall's! And again, too heavy to lug back to the states especially if they aren't unique or a fabulous price. There was even a stall selling a vegetable spiralizer like you see on late night tv commercials. He was demonstrating the plastic gadget and crowds were lined up watching. Cracked me up! Did you pick up any treasures while in a Rome? Yes, a plastic veggie spiralizer! Prices of many items were the same or higher than the shops. For example, a tiny bottle of 20 year old aged balsamic was $22 but $18 in a shop so know your prices and definitely try to barter. Mercato Campo de Fiori is located in a bustling area of the city so after shopping the market, you can stop in other shops and boutiques on all of the side streets. There are plenty of leather, clothing, jewelry, and stores selling ceramics and food products plus cafes and restaurants in abundance. read more

I was waiting for my laundry to finish up and decided to walk around this place (just wasting time). Great place to get fresh fruit/veggies, spices and great wines. There are also several vendors that make fresh squeezed juices that I highly recommend. This market is open everyday and it is always busy. There are restaurants surrounding this market as well, so from my perspective, it's an all day event. read more

If you're in the area, Campo de Fiori is worth checking out and was my favorite neighborhood in Rome. My husband and I spent 4 days in Rome and wanted to try fresh produce from a Roman market. It's not a huge market but the fruit, spices, leather goods and cheeses were great to look at and even sample. If you buy fruit, they have running water that you can use to rinse your fruit with and eat right after you purchase it. There's also a fruit stand that will freshly squeeze a variety of fruits for you. I shared an orange, pomegranate, strawberry and watermelon juice that was fantastic, refreshing and not 5 euros. read more

Really just a flea market. So many better places to shop! Not a local experience. Very touristy. Very pushy sellers who live to bargain.

Incredible open market in a beautiful plaza surrounded by amazing meats, cheeses, pasta, oils, and so much more! Amazing and friendly vendors and even if you don't buy anything, it's certainly an experience to come here and see what the various fruits and vegetables are in season! This is the perfect place for people watching! This open air market is the oldest in Rome and offers everything from flowers, fruits/veggies to specialty pastas and spices. My eyes feasted on the quality starches (sooo much pasta! and bread too), meat products, olive oils and balsamic vinegar. A piazza where you can find university students, tourists and other locals visiting the colorful stands, which are obviously, a hotspot for photographers too. The market is here from 0600 to 1400. At night, this is a bustling place as well. There are a lot of cafes and restaurants that surround the square, most are expensive but offer set menus, make sure to shop around. If you really want to blow your money, head to Roscioli which is a short walk from here, located on Via dei Giubbonari, 21. read more

The market is smaller than I anticipated, but has interesting offerings. Your ability to bargain will depend on the seller - one seller at the hat stall steadfastly refused to lower the price, while another seller ten minutes later agreed to it without difficulty. There are fresh and packaged foods, souvenirs, kitchen items, accessories and clothes. It closes in the early afternoon every day, so you have to hustle to get there. It's a charming old part of the city. The piazza has fruit and vegetables stalls and unusual souvenirs, Balsamic Vinegar and pastas, seasonings, and fresh flowers. also many little restaurants. I always stop here on a visit to Rome. We go early morning and have a cappuccino and sweet roll, and pick up some souvenirs. And pick up lots of tomatoes and fruits that are in season and leave them for a snack later in our hotel room! read more

Pici pasta. That was the special regional pasta we had in Siena. Fat springy spaghetti. It was delightful and we found a bag of it at Mercato Campo de' Fiori. This market is full of fresh vegetables, dry pastas, flowers, spices, and best of all- wine! I got a sample of Chianti and got to sip it while shopping. Most likely if you are a local, you'd benefit from this market the most. As a tourist, it was just fun to experience and of course we got suckered into buying a variety of tapenades and spreads. I don't regret it. They were delicious and a great souvenir from the trip. The market is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and bakeries. This is not a place where you will spend a lot of time. This is a nice market in a public square, Its a nice square lined with restraunts, ( as you enter the square from the main street on the far right there is a bakery with the best pizza I had in Rome). The marked is durring the day every day. I guess it used to be more for locals but lit is becoming mostly for tourists, there are still some local produce sellers but more wines, dry pasta etc and the ones I noticed all can ship it home for you. On the edges it has souveneirs etc. Still its fun to look around and as I said get some good pizza (tip figure out what you want, go to the casheir and pay, then to the counter to tell what you want. Cutest farmers market ever. You can buy everything you could possibly ever need from here. That ranges from produce, kitchenware, purses, pasta, dried fruit, various types of olive oil, organic honey, fresh fruit cups, and freshly squeezed pomegranate juice. And it's surrounded by restaurants, bakeries, and so forth. It's definitely a spot to check out while you're in Rome. There's a pizza place nearby that like most pizzerias- prices your pizza by the weight. Try the potato pizza. It has some salt and rosemary and it's so delicious. I used to come by and get that pizza, walk over to the middle of the farmers market and then bought a fresh fruit cup. The perfect lunch! The produce can get a bit pricey, as can some of the kitchenware. What I enjoyed most were the fruit cups and the dried fruit. And definitely get the dried strawberries. Oh my god. SOOOOO good. I never got the chance to buy some of the organic honey, but they had samples and I tried the peach honey and it was really delicious. So I'd definitely advise everyone to go try some out and buy them. 'Cause sooner or later you'll just start thinking about it and you'll regret not buying some... read more

It was never going to be a fair fight. After coming from the opulence and sensory overload that is the Mercat de la Boqueria, other farmers markets just won't do. And besides, I found this to be more of a flea market than a farmers market. But maybe I was just suffering MdlB withdrawal. While I saw some fresh fruit, the macedonia here didn't compare to the macedonia in Barcelona. There's fresh fruit juice but I didn't experience the freshness or flavor explosion of the Spanish market. I willed myself to enjoy my orange/pomegranate juice more than I did -- plus the station from which I got it was a *little* unclean. If you're in the market for spices, pasta, olive oils, and honey, have at it. If you're looking for pork and/or fish products, you might need to head to another market. In all fairness, it's a much smaller market than MdlB and has less going on. Whereas MdlB has built-in stations, restaurants and a prime location on Las Ramblas, this market is more akin to a pop-up market you'd find in a largish park on the weekends in the States. The square fills with vendors and buyers while the perimeter of the square is adorned with brick & mortar restaurants and gelaterias primed to pick off disinterested tourists and those who need a break from walking around. Dissimilar to MdlB, there are more than a few clothing items for sale of varying quality (again: flea market). I think had I come here before being ruinT by MdlB I would have been much more charmed. But, alas, I had been to the mountain top. If you're in Rome, this might be a nice place to pass by on the way to something else (as I sort of did) but I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to stop by. There have to be better markets to try in the Eternal City. read more

This outdoor market is catered towards tourists and so there is some expensive stuff there....but oh we did get some great tasting solid and liquid intoxicants to bring home with us! You get to try a lot of the items a available, which is a great way to know that you are happy with what you are getting. I cannot imagine many locals shop here though - I can't imagine they could afford it for one! read more

A nice market which has all the fresh fruits and veg. What surprised me most was they were also selling spices from India do we were able to cook a nice home cooked curry. The great thing about campo de fiori is that after 6pm the square turns into a drinkers square, it's just awesome day and night. read more

Fresh spices, pastas, flowers, and olive oil... I'm IN! Greetings from the daily market at Campo de' Fiori in Roma. A place where the sights are as inviting as the sounds and smells coming from the market stands that surround you. In just a few hours all of this will be swept away and we'll be in a lovely piazza with no sign of what was here this morning. They do their due diligence and actually wash the cobblestones down after this market is over for the day so there is no scrap of spaghetti left for the taking. "The Market," as we call it, is one of my favorite lunch time rendezvous for food and shopping. Don't expect to buy your next Murano glass piece here or even legitimate San Marzano tomatoes, but you can expect to score a great deal on some spices and olive oil. Make sure to look out for the natives as they are selling whats legit and they are always down for a little bartering if it means they'll be getting a sale. There are some excellent deals on touristy t-shirts for your family back home and a fresh flower stand towards the far west end of the piazza that is perfetto if you're staying in an apartment in town for the week. The only reason this market doesn't score a five out of five is that I've found many of the non-Italians to be rude and pushy when trying to sell me items I have no interest in. It's not a Maserati you're hustling here....its pasta, and I want my pasta from the source so step aside and let me go see Luigi for some of todays freshest. Mercato at Campo de' Fiori is a MUST on your tour of Roma and be sure to try a bit of the Melli Organic Honey...you'll never eat another slice of pecorino without it! read more

So cool and refreshing to step into the Farmers Market in historical centre Roma - can't beat Centro Storico location, so convenient! Several stands with freshly squeezed juices while you wait, 4 euro. Yes, the market is geared towards tourists, as is everything else around, so be smart. Yet a wonderful site while exploring "downtown" area, it offers large variety of produce, pastas, smoked meats, cheeses, spices, fresh and dry fruit, some light apparel and scarfs, even purses! Some things are more expensive than others, but you pay the price for grabbing what you need or want right here, rather than riding a taxi, or public transportation, or driving to a supermarket. Surely there are plenty of touristy items sold here, but then again, you're in Rome! It's wonderful to see the make shift market tents in the midst of the city, and all the colorful produce overflowing. This place has amazing flare. One day it is there and another you won't find it. When I stay in Rome on business at a hotel for several weeks at a time, it's tiring to eat the same restaurant meals over and over again, no matter how wonderfully cooked, so sometimes a bite of something fresh is more satisfying. read more
