One wheeled Dysons don't do the job. Off we toddle down to W. Crum & Sons to buy a new hoover. It's at the end of a fairly scary-looking row of shops at the eastern edge of Strathclyde uni's campus. In the windows prices are trumpeted in neon starbursts. It's a friendly wee shop, selling washing machines, cookers, hoovers, dishwashers and other such very boring but very necessary stuff. It specialises in repairs though, and it seems that is their main line of business. It is perhaps not as cheap as the likes of Argos, but I would rather spend an extra few quid if it's somewhere local. Especially when it's the letting agents' money and not mine.

I ventured in here when I was on the hunt for a washing machine for my new flat, as I realised how unpractical it would be to continue carting my washing around to my mum's forevermore, unfortunately. I was welcomed in by the owner who was friendly and knowledgeable about all of the electrical appliances and helped me pick out a nice white washing machine that was within my budget. It was delivered to my door the very next day, complete with a year's warranty. A great little locally owned business that prides itself on customer service and quality.

There is an on-site cafe and a small burger van on the premises, otherwise dining out options consist of some spit (on your face) and sawdust hell-hole pubs. Indeed wandering up here you can almost here "Handbags and Gladrags" playing in your head, although it does receive an extra star for the nice views of Glasgow it offers on a clear day.

The nearest underground station is in fact Cowcaddens - a mere 10 minutes away (15 on the way back as it is uphill......!). There is also a frequent 7 minute bus service from Buchanan Bus station to the entrance of the Park. The Onsite Cafe (Up on the Hill Cafe) offers high quality food and friendly service - and anchors a Business park with a sense of community. There is also an 80 space Children's day Nursery on site and plenty of free parking. The views are spectacular - and free as is access to the Canal at Speirs Wharf for lunchtime cycles or walks. What more do you want from a "city centre Business Park"

Rather than ordering one and waiting for it to arrive, I decided to put it in here for repair and service. And what service! I dropped it off about noon, and just after 1.15 I got a call to say that it was ready. Brilliant! One nice shiny clean fully serviced hoover was duly collected for the princely sum of ... £25 total. Now that's value for money that you can't argue with. Top marks!

We finally got around to taking our old Dyson here last week. In my eyes it was past it and we…read moreneeded a new one but after a quick appraisal here, we were told it would be £40 for a full service (which includes a thorough clean of the cyclones etc) and the 3 parts we needed. All the work was complete within about 24hrs and we picked our revamped Dyson back up the very next day. It was very clean and works well now, so pretty happy. We even took my mum's old dyson here a few days later for a service too. Definitely check the store is actually open before you head out to drop off / pick up as we popped along and it was closed a good 20 minutes before the stated closing time.
