    Coach House - Double room

    Coach House

If you are looking for a hotel with convenient links to the city centre, then this is definitely…read morenot it. However, if you are looking for a quiet and comfortable hotel in the countryside of Bristol, then the Coach House could be worth a stay. Upon arrival my girlfriend and I were met with a welcoming and accommodating service at reception. The lobby was clean and tidy, and was decorated in a contemporary and subtle style befitting a countryside location. Our chalet-style room was tucked away at the back of the hotel, with a small courtyard to the front and a field to the back. We were shown to our room, provided with a key (which made a pleasant change from the modern key-card contraptions) and were shown how to operate the electric heater if required. Very much like the lobby, was the rooms was clearly cleaned to a high standard and immediately felt comfortable. As the room had both an external and internal door, we felt this contributed to an overall suggestion of security. The room contained a dresser, clothes rail, large double bed with two side tables, a flat-screen television, and a chair. The tea and coffee making facilities were very generous and we both appreciated the provision of caramelised biscuits. I found the bed to be extremely comfortable, although my girlfriend felt as though the mattress was a little too firm for her liking and her sleep was not the best. We were provided with generous and good-quality towels for the small but perfectly adequate bathroom. Like the bedroom, the bathroom had obviously been cleaned to a very high standard. The inclusion of breakfast was very much appreciated. We were provided with a buffet-style breakfast of cereals, coffee and juice in the spacious dining room, and we had a choice of full-English breakfast options. Overall, the service was excellent and the quiet location beneficial to a couple looking for a peaceful weekend.

A large car park is available, providing for both the hotel and the adjoining Beefeater restaurant. A Shell petrol station and the Emerson's Green retail park are all within the nearby vicinity. Basic refreshments and travel items are available from vending machines within the reception area. Guests are assured of an extra level of security through having to swipe their key cards in order to access the corridors. Breakfast is available in the adjoining pub. The room was large and spacious with a decent amount of storage, although the total lack of telephones in the bedrooms is extremely concerning in terms of both safety and comfort. You've no choice but to exchange a degree of safety for a businessman's decision to cut costs. Menus for the Beefeater pub and leaflets further extolling the Whitbread brand are littered throughout the room, ensuring no surface is free from an advert. The room would benefit from plug sockets next to the bed. The door chain was missing, and an extra level of security had to be improvised through threading a coat hanger across the door. The bathroom was small but adequate, with the added benefit of a bathtub. The bed was comfortable enough and the choice of pillows was appreciated, although be prepared for disruptions to your sleep as the 'quiet zone' posters throughout the hotel seemingly don't apply to certain guests. Furthermore, if you enjoy settling down to sleep in an extremely warm bedroom, you are in luck. The window provides fresh air at the least, but the security devices most hotels insist on equipping these days do not enable any kind ventilation or refreshing breeze. The nonsensical wall-mounted thermostat permitted a moment of reduced temperature before gradually creeping back up to thirty-plus degree heat. Simply turning the radiator off is not an option. Ideal for convenience and low price, but otherwise bland and sterile. This type of accommodation seems to lack character as a rule, as ought to be expected from a large budget chain hotel. In contemplating a further stay at this or any other Premier Inn hotel I would have to insist on a visit of only absolute necessity.

It's quite new and you can tell - the service is exceptional, the kind of exceptional you only get from somewhere that's still trying their hardest to impress, with none of the cynicism apparent in many other longer established luxury hotels. The architecture is awesome - externally it's stunning, a period building that oozes style. Inside has been decorated beautifully. It's a bit of a warren inside, I got lost on the way back from the gym, and ended up on my floor, but the opposite side. But it adds to the character. The rooms are gorgeous, big comfy beds, quirky chairs and classic touches. My bathroom was clean and modern, and very roomy. The aforementioned gym is well stocked with very modern equipment. A bit warm with no aircon that I could feel, but it's in one of the old bank vaults which weren't designed to be cool I guess! The spa looked amazing too - I didn't use it but was seriously tempted. The jacuzzi looked like bliss and the people in it at the time had beaming smiles, so I assume they were having a good time. Yet to try the cocktail bar or restaurant - if I do I'll update the review! Overall impressions are great, I'll absolutely be coming back here when I'm next down on business (or pleasure...)
