Terrible!! Terrible!! I don't know what is going on with this hospital, but it has changed for the worse. I knew I shouldn't have gone to the ER today, but I couldn't breathe if I did any walking or moving and was so dizzy the last couple of days I couldn't ignore it. My legs were swollen and I was scared it was a blood clot or a heart problem. While waiting for hours and hours I had to call the nurse in five times to remind her to change my iv from one med to the other or that one bag was done. She never came in on her own! Anyways long story short...after the meds didn't work the doctor instantly got mad and acted like I was faking it. Instead of slowing down and listening long enough for me to tell him I don't metabolize meds normally he just sent me on my way feeling no better with my blood pressure way too high, feeling too dizzy to walk and not able to breathe. He was so rude it was crazy! He asked what our problem was and said to go to my regular doctor if I really wanted to know what was wrong. I don't know why I even went there because all I've ever seen/experienced with family and friends at Mercy's ER over the last couple of years is problems and rude staff. So sad because it used to be a great place to go!! read more

Have to have infusion of antibiotics everyday at 5 pm. First 3 days was good. 4th day someone forgot to make antibiotics and waited an hour to get it. Nurses however were great read more

OR's have staffing shortages. Cannot get surgeries done. They are now outsourcing staff. Which is dumb cause those workers (traveling nurses and such) get paid a lot more than people who are actually from the area. Losing and/or firing staff and not replacing position to save on MONEY. Which puts more stress on staff that still working there. Down anesthesiologists. Many other specialties are short: doctors. Urology, neurosurgery (eliminated), gastroenterology, infectious disease, vascular surgery. ER wait time for me was 8 hours not too long ago. ER doc had my discharge orders ready to go before she came to check on me. Didn't believe how much pain I was in. I think your best bet in medicine is Unity Point for people of the area. Many friends of mine has changed their healthcare facility to UP. MO in waterloo is going downhill in care, availability for appts, surgeries, lacks staff. read more

if I could give zero I would me and my 2 kids sat in the waiting room the entire time we was never registered the docotor came out and seen us we never went in a room about 10 ppl who came after us did they were rude from the start I asked the lady the number for there administration to file a complaint she refused to give it to me and wouldn't let me see her name when I seen it I pointed and said your name is Anna Annie she ran out of the room and told the doctor I tried to hit her she lied I told him go look at the camera I'll never go there again she wouldn't open the door so I could leave they called socerity the doctor came and told me I can goto jail or leave and had sucerity oh they going to look at that camera Tomorow I never tried to hit her they were very rude from the start I'll never go back there i think the doctor on drugs read more

My only two contacts with the Hospital. Had a heart ablation that has vary good outcome. Other was was a skin infection that outcome is more of a question. read more

I would rate it a 0 if I had that option. i went in for a colonoscopy three months ago and my life has been a living hell ever since. I will not even begin to tell the story of what I have gone through and am still going through. The room was dirty, outdated, the nurse was very rude, actually downright mean. The nurses at the station were sitting around talking about parties they had been to and the ones they were going to attend, while patients were waiting and calling for help. I could hear it going on around me. One man wasn't coming to yet, and the nurse kept saying, "Come on, we need you to wake up now; we need to free up this bed." It' seemed like an assembly line. They herded me out without letting me gain full consciousness. I don't remember anything about the ride home, and very little about the two days afterward. They gave me Fentanyl as the anesthetic, which, if I had been told about, I would have DEFINITELY SAID NO! It put my colon to sleep and that's where my problems began. I actually felt like I was in a clinic in a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. IS THIS WHAT OUR MEDICAL SYSTEM HAS BECOME??? I have been through more than my share of colonoscopies in my life, but never again. This place needs to be reported! read more

I recently brought one of my children to Mercy one waterloo for an ultrasound. I am a mom that keeps track of all my kids medical information so I have portals for each of them. So I contacted them to set up a portal for her. Keep in mind she is a minor. I was told no sorry we don't allow anyone younger tHan 18 to have a portal, I asked why , it's just our policy. This makes no sense. This is one of the big issues in health care these days we should be able to have access to all our medical records and as a parent of small children who are unable to make health care decisions for themselves or even share their medical hisTory to clearly give all important information to other health care providers. Horrible experience!! We went to the ER looking for answers and help for altered mental status. My daughter was admitted to the Psych ward without any discussion or permission from us. No communication with patient or family, they just observed her behavior, committed her and prescribed pills, and now she has a huge bill and PTSD. She never saw a psychologist. I wrote a letter to their website, they completely ignored my communication and concerns even though they post that they respond to feedback. read more

If you need emergency care you better be bleeding a lot. If not then you will be ignored. two days ago went in with a minor head wound requiring a few stitches. We told-receptionist I needed stitches. HER MOST IMPORTANT TASK WAS REGISTERING PATIENTS!!!! Still bleeding she made certain she got all information before even offering a wheel chair!! NEXT we waited over an hour for a band aid person to assess and decide yesI DID need stitches. SO we waited. more. Two hours before we saw an LPN. Another thirty minutes before he was ready to stitch. Meanwhile a records person came in to verify insurance and ask the same questions that were asked out front. FINALLY after three hours, twenty minutes, I was stitched and released. Their computer system. That is another story. Worst service I had even had. read more

If I could give negatives I definitely would. Extremely slow / no service. This happened the last time also. We just might pack up and go to Allen Hospital. All that they are doing is talking to each other! Would not recommend this place at all. Another patient just came out of a room and asked for help and the male nurse told him to go back in the room that they're working on the computer right now! Very poor service! read more

Been here 3 days, had a severe infection, was suppose to be admitted through the er to have a drain tube placed in my kidney, got to er at 3pm, wasn't until 7pm I got a room because nobody knew anything of course, wasn't until 9pm I got my surgery and the dress were joking about how they had been there since 7am and were so tired and out of it that they forgot to push the button on the elevator, made me feel real safe knowing they were about to cut into my kidney! Then finding a nurse or a Dr is impossible, there are no doctors or nurses on the floor until after 7pm, only people before that are nurses Aids and they can't do anything but check vitals. I literally laid in pain all day yesterday because nobody was around to give me pills until 7pm the Dr finally ordered tordol. Today I was suppose to be released and have a 1.5cm stone removed in Iowa City tomorrow but had to cancel tomorrow because there was no doctor around today to release me... This place sucks, I'm walking out and will never ever be back!! 4 people have died here just in the 3 days I have been here and it's because there are no doctors or nurses around! They leave nurses Aids in charge of everything!! read more
