I have been a resident at one of the Meredith Communities for over 4 years and I wouldn't dream of moving!! Everyone who works for Meredith is so friendly and helpful and Teri, in the office, has been a god-send on more than one occasion. I feel that we're not just treated as tenants but as family, which is why I have recommended the slew of Meredith's properties to my friends and co-workers. Review for University Towers, managed by Meredith Management - one of the MOST negligent and irresponsible property management companies I've ever seen in my life. !!!!!DO NOT!!!!!! lease with them!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM TRYING TO SAVE YOU FROM A NIGHTMARE. 1. THE COCKROACH PROBLEM IS RAMPANT. My boyfriend has rented here for 3+ years and the ENTIRE time the cockroach problem NEVER improved. And when I say rampant, I don't mean we see one crawl here and there. I mean we literally cannot even set down ONE bag of groceries on our kitchen counter to unload it without a roach crawling in. We do not leave food out ever. They have these "inspections" but it's really just one guy walking in, spraying one time under the sink, then leaving. I saw on Google reviews other tenants at this property and at other properties of theirs have this issue too. 2. During my boyfriend's stay here, our AC unit and/or water pipes from another unit has leaked on multiple occasions. These guys come in here to "fix a leak" and "repatch and repaint the ceiling" each time but it only seems to fix symptoms and not actually fix the causes of the problems because something else that we don't even touch is always breaking or leaking. 3. Speaking of leaks, we had a !!!HUGE!!!! leak where the water was coming down so hard from the ceiling it sounded like an actual waterfall inside the house. I am not exaggerating. The leak caused the water to flood so bad that the water made it out to my boyfriend's living room, past 2 bedrooms. At the same time we had our leak, the unit directly under us had a leak and flooding also. Think about how bad the source of the problem is for this to happen. 4. The entire 3+ years my boyfriend has rented here, we've been able to use the laundry room for our building a total of maybe 2 times. The machines' card readers are always breaking and sometimes the coin thing on the machines don't work either so there's no way to even get the machines started. Sometimes, the machines themselves don't even work altogether! Additionally, for at least 6 months now the washer machine for our building hasn't had hot water. We keep having to go to the twin building next door to use their laundry machine (the only one that seems to be maintained). If you like being able to do your laundry when you need to, don't move here. I promise it's a 0.0000001% chance the laundry machines for the building works - at least for our building. 5. Their parking garage is the dumbest set up I've ever seen. They give 1 reserve spot per unit and the spots are tiny but maneuverable as long as you're careful. But if there's a car idling outside, there's a good chance you'll be blocked from your spot until they move because that's how tight the parking lot is. There's this huge patch of grass attached to the parking lot they could easily turn into more parking spots but they choose not to. So residents have to fight for parallel spots with non-residents who use those parallel spots to go to the club. I just feel that it is irresponsible for property management to not properly assess their property to fix the underlying issues that effect their tenants' living conditions. I have lived in this apartment for 3 years and I can say that I'm not sure I will be renewing this year. At first the place was okay, I moved down here in a small time frame so took what I could get. But then the nightmare started..... There are apparently "quarterly inspections" done but it's more like letting maintenance walk through and see what valuables you have in the place. In the Princess Anne Apartments there are what I believe to be bed bugs. I contacted the management company as soon as I had found a bug. Unfortunately, I have not felt like this has been an urgent matter for the rental company whatsoever. To me, and I believe to every other sane person, this is a time sensitive, urgent matter. An inspection was conducted today, the inspector couldn't locate the source or origin in my apartment anywhere. That leads me to be concerned about the entire building. There is a quarantine currently so no I haven't traveled anywhere/had anyone over. I do hope that management will be quick to get inspections done of the surrounding units and/or entire building to solve this problem. Before anyone else has to get bitten by bed bugs!!! This is just the current problem there is with this apartment complex! Many problems and concerns for this building are usually jerry rigged of sorts. At one point, there was a tube sock holding a pipe up in the laundry room (we have photos and proof). They have removed the sock, and now zip tied the tube! The "problems" are never actually fixed to code. At one point our neighbor's (B5) moving alarm clock was rolling around every night for two months. Starting at 445am-515am everyday this alarm would go off. He is in the military, so I assume he wasn't home. I am a bartender and that is around the time I would be trying to go to bed. You can see how annoying this would be after getting off a long shift, coming home and trying to get comfy when all of a sudden your whole unit starts vibrating. I also wasn't the only one affected by this as everyone was banging on the walls/ceilings trying to get the noise to stop... The management company sends out "notices" every so often to the entire building, one recently saying that if there is trash around our apartment we would be given a fee for it. The dumpster is ALWAYS overflowing, no matter what day it is. For 3 weeks our neighbors below had groceries that were delivered just sitting in front of their front door. There were eggs and milk so you could imagine the smell towards the end. When I called to talk about this, I was 1) concerned about my neighbors well being, and 2) concerned bugs and rodents would be attracted to the rotting food. Pam answered the phone and rudely told me that I needed to "put this in writing". I was confused about this for we all had just gotten notices about trash around the apartments, specifically left by the doors. So I specified to her about the rotting groceries stinking up the whole stairwell and she quickly changed her demeanor and said she would "put a work order in for someone to remove the items." Every problem I've encountered in this unit, management has not really been vigilant about fixing. It's extremely irritating, and you can tell they only care about your money and not you or your safety. I also find it irresponsible that they are putting their tenants at risk by not only NOT correctly fixing the structural issues but also not completing inspections effectively to provide a safe living arrangement. Dangerous living conditions. Apartment B2 in Broadmore property had horrible mold problem, resulting in severe illness. Professional mold testing proved 39% air quality was stachybotrus mold. Pennecilium and aspergillis as well. Management is incompetent and tried to ignore requests to fix. Their "fix" was to send in a plaster contractor to cover it up. We have it all documented by mold testing results, pictures, video, and written communication with management. THIS APARTMENT WAS RE-RENTED WITHOUT PROFESSIONAL MOLD REMEDIATION. Okay I did not think I was going to have to write another review because other than when my heat goes bad off in the winter or my AC unit stopped working I have no issues with this company. But my AC went out Wednesday when I got home I called emergency maintenance which I don't know why they call it emergency maintenance because I don't come out they don't call they do nothing so the next day I called the office and asked them to fix it and they said they'd have the HVAC people look at it and they didn't get back to me I got home it wasn't working and I didn't have an AC unit so Thursday I go to work I call them and they say yes we'll have it fixed if not we'll have AC unit in there again Thursday nothing no AC again. So today Friday she calls me yes Ms Churchill we were so busy we were so sorry one of our maintenance men left early blah blah blah we will have a unit in your window if we can't get it fixed. 5:00 nothing 6:50 the maintenance man pulls up with a brand new AC in the box. But then says oh here's your AC unit but I can't install it because I have to go get my kids you can install it or I can come back. I said yes you need to come back. 2 hours later really an hour later I call no answer text no answer finally quarter 8 oh my tech guy is on the way to install it. 8:00 at night tonight his guy comes this guy does not know how to put a together I had a freaking tell him how to do it pull the instructions out the packaging and show it to him. And then he has the nerve to ask me how I'm doing when I'm coming up the stairs I'm sorry how do I look like I'm doing well you got two eyes you got two legs you're talking you're walking I have no AC but you're blessed there's people out here living in this heat yes I know that but you know what I paid rent here I paid my left bills I should not have to endure this so this is what I'm going through. Very unacceptable and I have been very lenient I put up with this and I understand they are busy and other stuff is going on but I'm on time with my rent I pay my water bill my electric bill on time I shouldn't have to go get a hotel or crash with somebody else because I don't have everything in my place working that I pay my hard work money for. read more

Lived at the Princess Anne apartments for 2 years. Overall apartment was okay, but Meredith management was horrible. The women who work in the office were rude every time I spoke with them. I scheduled a move-out inspection and they never showed. Still waiting on my security deposit. I called to ask about the security deposit and they were extremely rude and wouldn't give me any information. I moved out of state so I won't be able to go to the office in person. If you are someone searching for an apartment to rent, I suggest looking for an apartment that is with a different company. read more

I rented an apartment in Beechwood and for the first half of the lease everything was good. All of sudden they changed management and all hell broke loose. The manager accidentally credited a portion of my rent to another tenant. I went to the office she took out her ledger and found her mistake and told me she would correct it. 2 months later I get another notice about the same issue saying I short paid rent. Again I march to the office and tell this same lady about HER mistake and again she tells me she's sorry and will get it corrected. Well stupid me for going out of town on work 2 months later and coming home to a freaking court notice to appear for eviction for guess what! YEP THE SAME DAM ISSUE THIS INCOMPETENT RENTAL MANAGER SAID SHE WOULD FIX MONTHS AGO!!!!!!!!!!! So now I have to take off work to appear in front of a judge just to SHOW HIM ALL OF MY RENT HAS BEEN PAID ON TIME EVERY DAM MONTH SINCE I BEEN IN THIS GOD FORSAKEN APT. I will immediately be giving my notice to move. I will not stay in a complex who employs such incompetent personnel who carelessly make mistakes that impact a persons livelihood or affects the people who actually do pay their rent on time every month. Mary Goddard & Page Lee, as well as Stephanie, the mgr at the Brentwood Forrest location, are three of the most crooked, unprofessional, dishonest people you'll ever have to deal with. My apt wreaked of marijuana because my neighbors were ALWAYS SMOKING MARIJUANA, and even though the property mgr (the previous one who was much smarter than the buffoons who work there now) corroborated what I was smelling because she smelled it in her office (which was below my unit), the corporate office chose to do nothing about it. They even requested that I get a letter from my neurologist indicating that I had a health condition, which made me & my health sensitive to the smell of weed, before they would agree to let me out of my lease without penalty. Call me stupid, but I thought smoking weed was illegal in VA? And I also thought it was common sense that some people don't like them or their personal space smelling like weed? Nearly two months later, I'm still waiting on my deposit refund. And now I'm having to take the geniuses to court to get not only what was promised me but also what is due me. They run this "company" like a mom & pop shop in a shack. Please save yourselves the hassle & find a quality apartment company to rent from. One where the "employees" have more than a high school education. And where the "corporate minions" who represent the face of the company aren't thugs wearing dresses.
