I think it would be a meaningful for this center (and for the LGBT community at large) to consider not only the hurdles each member faces based on gender, sexuality and other identity markers, but to recognize that class - poverty, homelessness, victimization resulting in lost income potential - is a major issue to be recognized without judgment, and worked on with diligence.

I came here one night for a training session. All was calm. The staff manning the place was friendly and was apparently working hard on his tasks. I was impressed with the number of computers available for a community center. The number of books and other resources in their "library" was impressive. This is a little community center that's just coming along nicely and is readily available for members and organizations of the LGBT communities. And...I felt safe there. Came here for a concert and loved that the venue is small so there is no bad seat…read more Unfortunately the sound/ acoustics were horrible, not sure if this was the band's fault or this location, but it was pretty terrible. The location is good, with a parking garage a couple of blocks away. Because of the proximity to the White House, there was a lot of security in the perimeter of the area which is a plus when walking at night.

Food is limited. Chicken wings, tenders, and fries. $20 for one serving. Drinks are ridiculous. Empty cup would be charged $8. Bottle of water $7, soda $8, alcohol $18. Extremely disturbed by security/bouncer seated in front of the stage "facing" the audience. He was messing around on his phone with his head down. The performer asked him once to put it away. He did for about five minutes AND THEN PULLED IT OUT AGAIN. The show stopped while Michael again (politely) confronted him. Mentioned the bright screen was distracting and that he was there for protection. The bouncer put his phone away but didn't look up, didn't apologize. He was asked to leave and didn't move. While I understand leaving his post would probably be worse, the venue didn't send anyone up there. Ultimately, Michael demanded he leave. DO BETTER DAR. He had ONE job...to watch the audience for everyone's protection. I have worked at Merriweather and the cardinal rule is to not watch the act, not have our personal devices out, and to remain alert. Not sure if I will go back. Heinous pricing and lax security do not endear me to them.

In regards to the Franklin D. Reeves Parking Garage:…read more They make up their own rules. Please don't part here. On the website it says that they have a flat fee of $10. That was not true for the weekend. We paid $20 thinking we can park overnight. On our way out of the parking lot after we just paid, we saw a fine print that said that no overnight parking is allowed. We asked a worker there and he said that he will make an exception for us as long as we take our cars by 9am. We thanked him and trusted his words. When we came back to pick up our car at 8am, we were told we owe them money for overnight parking and if we don't pay, they will call the police. The rate for that day was $15 but they charged us $40. They mentioned that we're lucky we didn't pay for towing cost of $250. We feel extorted due to the lack of transparency of the parking information. None of the information was upfront and we expected more from a parking garage that was associated with the Franklin D. Reeves Center. If I had known, I would have never parked here. What a scam. Folks, be careful!

I showed him the print out and the app. He just kept yelling at me to prove I paid it and show him how much I paid. How do I "prove" that other than showing you the pass on the print out and the app specifying the garage and the address and the date and time. Parkwhiz passes don't display cost on the app. He changed his tune when I started to call Parkwhiz. I think it's a scam to get more money out of people. I reported my experience to Parkwhiz and they were very kind about it. Either the garage condones this scam ( I see the garage has a VERY low rating on another parking app) or this a scam unique to this worker and he is pocketing the cash like some slimeball thief. I wish I could rate zero stars. I'd rather park elsewhere and take an uber or something.

There's even a lobby for volunteers with cold water, places to sit, and more. The second part is a cafe that's open every day that sells coffee drinks, food, and snacks. I ordered the chai latte with an espresso shot and it was strong and tasty. They also sell sandwiches, lunch deals, Just Tea, and more. There's plenty of seating inside and a few seats outdoors along the sidewalk.
