Whether hot or iced merit (used to be local) is always the place to go! When I lived in dfw and they came to town there, I was ecstatic! Love that there's one down the street from my parents in SA and I even asked if they were coming to Houston any time soon! Lol They have a ton of great merch and coffee paraphernalia at each location. Of course I scooped up a merit enamel pin. A good amount of outdoor seating at this location. On my most recent visit they were allowing inside seating. I purchased one of their bakery Loraine pop tarts for a relative and DELISH. They're so serious about their coffee. I was the only one in line and after ordering and paying 3 more guest had arrived I was dumbfounded to look up and see all 3 of them served as I was waiting for my two lattes and pastry. The quiche was pretty good. It was actually my first time eating quiche, and this one came with egg, meat, and cheese. The cappuccino was pretty good as well. It was very smooth, and packed a punch of caffeine that I very much needed that morning. I stuck around for a few hours doing work, and I found it to be a good environment. What a great option for a cup of coffee! My wife and I decided to start the new year off by having a leisurely cup of coffee at Local Coffee. Walking in the place is very bright, clean, and welcoming. There are plenty of places to sit and chat. There were already quite a few people in but we ordered and got our coffee incredibly quickly. We both ordered lattes (one with lactose free milk) and some of their special flavors. The lattes came out super quickly and the presentation was excellent with two little hearts at the top. I came in today with a friend of mine to work on homework. We both had our coffee and kept to ourselves. A customer walks in with a really large hairy dog and sits at the table in front of us. This dog is leashed but hairs are falling all around while I'm trying to enjoy my drink and mind my business. There is absolutely no sign permitting dogs inside this place of business. There are two coffee shops in this little area at the intersection of NW Military and 1604. But avoid the green mermaid and just come here. So bright and spacious, everyone is ultra-nice. This is a great place to hang out, do some reading, and maybe have a latte. I am a black coffee man, so here's a general warning to those like me: the Merit coffee has some serious acidity. You may have to breakdown and balance the cup out with at least a little cream and sugar. Beyond that, it's all good here. There is a little patio with some space for your dog to get some sun. The inside features tables of all sizes as well as bar seating. Don't miss the little water station by the back door for hydration and all your other coffee accouterments. read more

This cafe is really great...if you can actually find yourself a parking space. Of the several times I have met people at this particular Local Coffee, I have had to either wait several minutes for someone to leave and swoop into their spot or I've had to just "create" a spot on the curb somewhere, copying the other cars. It's a huge convenience, especially when this is the case during the afternoon at 3 (not even during rush hour). I think Local Coffee does a great cortado which is what I typically order here. Seating is gorgeous and minimalistic, but you'd be hardpressed to find an empty seat - this cafe always seems packed. If you want to study or work on your own, you won't really find an isolated seat in the entire place. Service is really great. I've always felt like the staff here go out of their way to treat each customer with respect and courtesy. However, given the parking and seating situation, it's really difficult to find a spot here to work or simply drink your beverage. They either need an expansion in the parking, in the cafe itself, or both. read more

We looked up Merit Coffee and GPS directed us to Local Coffee. We knew we were in the correct place when we saw all the bags of Merit Coffee. I wanted a Mocha Hazlenut iced latte. They said they don't have Hazlenut; only vanilla, mocha, and caramel. I thought that was pretty limited. Then I asked for an iced caramel machiato. He then shows me a tiny espresso cup saying "We do it Italian style. If you want the Starbucks version, I'd recommend an iced caramel latte. I got it and it was very bland. My daughter wanted a large size and he said they only offer 1 size. Yet there were 3 different sized cups at the front, offering their different sizes. If you don't offer large, take your cup down from your display, rude person. My mother wanted a hot chai tea latte. Surprised they asked her what size she wanted between tall and 16 oz. The chai tea latte wasn't great, she said. The best places use Tazo Classic Chai because it has black pepper in it to give it a kick. This is usually what Panera uses. Panera's chai tea latte is the best, at least in Jackson & Ridgeland, MS. Will never go to a Merit Coffee or a Local Coffee again. Very disappointing. read more
