We've had great success with Merriam music for piano lessons for our children. They have a great group lesson strategy that provides a good amount of theory, music games for the younger students, and piano playing time. We were overjoyed when they became accredited and our eldest was able to earn a high school music credit through the school. They are always looking to improve and offer extra features like studio performance opportunities monthly, video performance logs, and faculty concerts which are free for the students to attend. read more

Bought a digital piano from these guys in April 2014. I probably wouldn't go back again. Good: Great selection and the prices for new machines was the main reason I went to them in the first place. Bad: From my experience I can say these guys are badly disorganized. I had a negative experience dealing with them after I purchased the piano. Once I purchased the piano I was told I would get one from the next shipment and we set a date for me to pick it up. I was going to go pick it up from their Vaughan location (there are two stores, one in Oakville and one in Vaughan). I called the day of delivery and I'm lucky I did because it turned out that it had been sold to someone else! No one called me to inform me and if I didn't call I assume I may have driven up to Vaughan and been told there. I got a call back from the salesperson who explained what happened. I was very irritated because we had discussed steps to make sure this didn't happen when I bought the piano (I guess the sales teams at the two stores don't communicate or their system needs an overhaul, or they're okay with just selling out from under each other). The next shipment was coming three days later so I got free delivery and an apology. There was a bit of an attempt to upsell me to a more expensive model if I wanted a piano the day I was supposed to receive mine, which I found distasteful to be honest. I noticed that on my receipt there was no specified pick up date (only a receipt to confirm that I had purchased a piano and the make and model). If it weren't for that I would have demanded a refund and taken my money elsewhere. In total, the deals are good but spend the extra couple bucks and go elsewhere. If you're going to go with Merriam, make sure you get a date on your receipt. read more

Just bought a Kawai piano from these guys, and had a fantastic experience. Actually sat down with me to really figure out what kind of piano made the most sense for me. The gentleman I spoke with knew the industry inside and out, and was able to answer all of my questions. They were not pushy at all (I ended up making 3 trips to the store) and I never felt like they were pushing the brands that they carry on me. They have a pretty good selection of uprights, grands and digital pianos... and a few ukuleles! Cool store even just to just go check ,chat with the staff, and play some beautiful pianos. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I purchased a piano from the Vaughan store. I visited the store and staff were extremely helpful, I was told to talk with my piano teacher to determine if the piano recommended was good for my needs. She said absolutely, I then called the store and tried to order the piano, I then emailed the sales person to order the piano, I was trying to buy it before the sale ended. Finally after several attempts I managed to order the piano, I went through some time waiting to have it delivered and trying to confirm delivery took again several attempts between phone calls, leaving messages and emailing. The piano delivery company was fantastic, did everything they promised, called me as promises, fabulous. Since the date of delivery I have been trying to get a receipt for my purchase (April 2014) delivered in June 2014. Trying to schedule the promised piano tuning...again numerous phone call messages (no one seems to answer the phone), numerous email and to date I have heard back from NO ONE...Customer Service sucks, I cannot believe the lack of respect for the customer. So as of today March 7, 2015 I am still waiting for a receipt saying I bought this piano and paid for it. I am still waiting to have the piano tuned, although I tried to book and even provided dates that would work for me months in advance, promised in July 2014 that I would hear from the piano tuner by the end of the week....still waiting. My niece lives in Toronto and is getting really good at playing the piano. When we visited, I noticed that her piano was a little more than run down and wanted to surprise and reward her for all her hard work and dedication. My sister had been taking her to classes at the Merriam School of Music, so naturally I first took her the Toronto Piano Store "Merriam Music" She was ecstatic! The professionals at Merriam Music took her by the hand and helped her to pick out the perfect piano for her. They quickly narrowed down some options (for the size, look, and even that sometimes noise may be an issue in the house) and settled on Baldwin cherry-stained piano. I would recommend anyone who wants to buy a piano in the Toronto area to visit the Merriam Music store. You'll easily be able to pick the right one for you with their help. read more

I tried to arrange piano lessons for my granddaughter and it was incredibly frustrating. No one gave me the correct information which I requested repeatedly. They were rude and keep changing their policies (which they couldn't show me) regarding payment plans. Upon arriving for my second lesson, they had cancelled it without telling me, returned my cheques which they said they couldn't do and the employee informed me he had been severely reprimanded for the errors he made. The good and bad. First the good, my kids enjoyed the one hour group music lessons, the teachers are good. In my opinion, the one hour sessions for level one to four are worth it, the private half hour sessions are expensive. When we signed up, we were told that we get "free lessons in the summer" if we enrolled for the year, it's not free because we got charged in July. Lessons end in June. Second, there are no lessons during Christmas holiday, March break, and we miss a lesson in Feb ( it's their PA day, I guess. So, we are paying monthly for lessons. We have to pay for their testing, and review papers. And the rates went up because they were renovating. If I pay for 4 lessons, I should get 4 lessons. That's my reasoning. When I tried to cancel, I was told that I had to pay for the summer lessons and my credit card would be charged on July 1st even though I gave them 30 days notice in May. I told them I was not going to be around in the summer and have no use of the summer lessons. I was told to provide proof of my travel plans. I have never heard of this? I refused to show them my travel plans, and told them that I satisfied my legal obligation of giving notice of 30 days to cancel. The person I was e-mailing to told me I got the wrong person, I needed to e-mail another department. She works for Merriam in accounting? She couldn't forward my e- mail to the appropriate department/person? Where's the customer service? Just my experience. read more
