Essentially, we planned to use the Bangor debit card only for travel. Despite have never used the card since we opened the account, we found out today that the card was used in an attempted fraudulent purchase on Amazon. Fortunately, Bangor Savings Bank blocked the transaction and sent us an email. They were helpful when we called them today. However, I now have serious concerns about their lack of security. This card was used for an attemped fraud, despite the fact that we have never used it, which means that any information that the malfeasants obtained was directly from Bangor Bank itself, and not from some ATM, online purchase, or store somewhere. And this after the account being opened just a few months. That means that someone gained access to all my personal info, including SSN, etc. Who knows if down the road I will now have to deal with the consequences of identity theft due to this breach.
