My son started out here in the beginner's classroom. I was worried because he has never been away from me but he loves it here . Shout out to Miss Ez & Miss Destiny for all their hard work , it's obvious that my son is having fun here because he always asks to go to school even on the weekends! This age is definitely not an easy age so I appreciate the teachers that my son is safe and happy in the classroom. Shout out to Miss Alyssa the chef for preparing good food for my son and is also aware of his food allergies and makes accommodation . All three of my children had attended MerryHill Calvine Daycare program. My youngest is currently in the toddler class and she loves it. I was worried about her because she is at the age where separation anxiety is at her peak but Ms. Kaitlynne and Ms.Marina has been a great help in her transition. They reassure me that my child is having fun meanwhile also learning. She comes home and will start singing the alphabet and medley songs she learns from daycare. All three of my children have attended this Merryhill and we have had nothing but great experiences. The staff and teachers treat your kids as their own and provide excellent care. They also have alot of curriculum in their daily schedule besides just playing. My youngest just joined the toddler room this year and although it was a tough transition for her, the teachers helped her through it. Ms. Marina and Ms. Kaitlynne care deeply for the kids in the toddler room and it shows! The kids in that class are all smiles and enjoy the activities the teachers provide. Ms. Be and Ms. Felicia were my middle childs teachers last year and she still continues to talk about them til this day. My 5 year old recently transferred from a different school. All of the staff we've interacted with at Merryhill is warm and welcoming to both their students and the parents. They are flexible and understanding when it comes to meeting the child where they are, ensuring students are never excluded or left behind. The curriculum offers variety that touches on important skill sets for the little ones (i.e. Spanish, Music Appreciation, Physical Education, etc) while providing structure needed for successful learning of basic pre-k elements like arithmetic, letters, colors, etc ... and they offer extracurricular activities like swim and music class. Overall, the learning environment is one that is positive and conducive to the growth and development of their students. I could not recommend this school more! read more

We have two kids enrolled in Merryhill since early this year. Our kids teachers, Ms. Kaitlynne, Ms. Marina, Ms. Stephanie, Ms. Destiny, and Ms. Es are amazing! We were initially very nervous in starting preschool but the school has been amazing in making us feel reassured that kids were in great hands. We get constant updates and fast response time when we have questions. We're always greeted with a smile during drop off and pick up. We love Merryhill Calvine! Our son started out in the infant room with Ms. Casey at 5 months old. She is attentive and positive and we are so excited to have our second son join her class in January! We've had our daughter at Merryhill Calvine since she was an infant. There have been changes with administration over the years (like all schools) but the recent years with the current principal, Karina Medina, and her teachers have been the best yet. Ms.Medina cares about the student experience and making sure families know she's in their corner. As a public school administrator, I am pleased with many things-- the staff have developed a relationship with my child and truly gotten to know her; the curriculum is strong and she is on track both academically and socioemotionally; the teacher/student ratio is perfect for our daughter; the school communicates frequently (daily reports with pictures and monthly newsletters) and hosts events that build positive culture and community engagement (Grandparents Day, Heritage Events, Potlucks, Car Building Competitions). They always take the time to take suggestions, hear feedback, and make improvements. Of the current staff, our daughter has had Ms.Alyssa, Ms.Be, and Ms.Felicia- all teachers that show an immense amount of care, thoughtful planning, and bring joy to their classrooms. Not every school is a fit for every child and we've been lucky that this school has been great for our daughter. If you want a place where your child is cared for, encouraged to grow as a student and young person, and a team that goes the extra mile- I recommend it. read more

We did a tour a few times over the years but it never felt right the class ratio seemed extreme with too many kids vs 1-2 teachers. We noticed that they changed it and felt more comfortable sending our girls to school for the first time ever. I had fears leaving them in school but after a few days adjusting my kids actually love school and that's so rare to see or even hear. They get excited to go to school and sometimes cry when it's time to leave. They are learning and having a great time at the same time. I want to thank Ms Alyssa, Ms Skylar for taking care of the girls. I also appreciate Ms Stephanie and Ms Es always up super early to look after the kids. We absolutely love this preschool! Our daughter is developing so well and truly enjoys coming every day. Even as a preschooler, she gets to join music class at the elementary school with Ms. Portalanza, which she looks forward to so much. They engage children in many different educational formats, such as art, literature, and musical. I've been taking my kids to Merryhill Calvine Preschool for two years. During our time here, I've only come to appreciate and enjoy what the preschool program here has to offer. From the front staff to individual teachers, this preschool embodies the structuted learning environment and nuturing environment that Merryhill is striving for. I've had my children at multiple Merryhill schools so I've seen a quite a few of the schools in the Elk Grove area. Starting with the front staff, I have had nothing but friendly interactions with the staff and they are great resources to use if you are having issues. During our time here we've had some minor issues but they have always been accommodating. Especially now in the covid restrictions, interactions have been very courteous and the front staff are doing quite a bit to make sure the kids are safe. I like that we have been kept informed throughout the process. I don't get to see the teachers much anymore but prior to Covid my son had specific teachers that I got to know and who were very attentive and communicated any issues or concerns with us when we dropped off or picked up our children. The teachers that teach kids are really the backbone of the preschool and so far I have felt good about all the teachers that have taken care of my kids. Moving on to the environment, the school is located off a busy street on Calvine which is not ideal but the school is enclosed and the teachers seem to be pretty attentive to the kids as they play outside. This is something that really is out of their control do despite the busy street off Calvine I don't have too much other issues with location. It's important to watch for drivers driving into the parking lot but I haven't seen anything really dangerous beyond people not as attentive at the exit. The only other issue I found regarding location is they the building is older than some of the other Merryhill locations, this isn't really bad and they have updated some areas such as the kids play areas. Moving on to some of the issues, we've had some issues with the communication apps that Merryhill had used and we've communicated this to office but it doesn't seem like they have a way to fix it and it might be something organizational. Also considering the location and size it seems slightly pricy but I still think it's worth the value as Merryhill has a structured learning environment better than most. I live closest to this location but at times I have considered others due to the quality of facilities. The prices seem relatively the same but there can be disparities such as with other locations like Merryhill Midtown. Despite this I believe the positives greatly outweigh the negatives of this place and I highly recommend this location to those that live nearby. The teachers in the individual classrooms really are the spotlight and during this pandemic they have been seemingly good at following precautions to prevent the spread read more

At best, this is an overpriced, mediocre preschool with seriously under-resourced classrooms; at worst, it is a dangerous environment. My family's experience with Merryhill Preschool Calvine was abysmal and I am writing this review to actively encourage parents to look elsewhere for childcare/preschool. My husband and I enrolled our (then) nearly three-year-old son at Merryhill Preschool Calvine at the end of January 2025. When he started, our son was an incredibly cheerful child and a great listener. He was skilled at using his words to convey his emotions and did a good job regulating his emotions and his body. When we removed our son from the preschool at the end of April 2025, his behavior had completely changed. He was having near-constant emotional meltdowns and outbursts inside and outside of school, had seemingly lost his ability to self-regulate, refused to nap, and started begging us not to take him to school. Today, six weeks after his last day at Merryhill, I am happy to report that our son has returned to being a ray of sunshine. He is thriving at his new school and having no behavioral issues. This has made it abundantly clear to us that Merryhill was the problem, not our son.  The preschool principal, Karina Medina, is a disgrace to her position and she should be fired for her inadequacies as an administrator.  We believe that she tried to bully us and our son out of the school to avoid being held accountable for how they failed him. When we responded to her hostility toward our son with concern and commitment to our son's success and safety, she responded with avoidance, lies, and by being punitive toward him. It took nearly three weeks of constant conversation for her to even look at his file. She blatantly and brazenly lied in a failed attempt to cover her tracks when it came to the school endangering and neglecting our child. (Our three year old was able to leave his classroom at the far end of the building and make his way to the front lobby where he was--as I was told, but not by the cowardly principal, and certainly not with an accompanying incident report--stopped by a random coach from the primary school who happened to be there. He could have made his way onto Calvine Road and been kidnapped or killed. We never took him back after this incident.) I reached out to the administrative leadership at the primary school about our experience (including a 15-page document outlining our experience with the preschool) and never heard from them, so I can only assume they find her behavior acceptable which is gravely disappointing. Families, please do everything you can to find a different childcare center/preschool for your children. The unsurprised reactions I have received from other early childhood and childhood educators when relaying what we went through has been so telling of the school's reputation among teachers. Merryhill Preschool Calvine's safety is compromised and their childcare is lacking its most important ingredient--care! read more

I have had a pleasant experience. Shoutout to Ms. Veronica, Ms. Asma, Ms. Felicia, and Ms. Be. My child has had my child over the years. They all have always went over and beyond. They communicate everything to me. I work with my child at home. They reiterate whatever I do at home with him in the class when they have free time. The front desk, Ms. Valencia, is always pleasant and on top of things. Ms. Karina has helped whenever I had outside questions. I know my child is taken care of and loved. It gives me a peace of mind when Im at work. I appreciate the whole school and staff. It is pricey but I see my tuition dollars at work. Opportunities are presented at the school that arent at other preschools. I did a lot of research before picking this school and I stand on my decision. Teachers are people too and I think some people forget that. Teachers arent just babysitters. They need to be embraced as family because theyre helping and teaching our kids while were at work. read more

My grandkids go to Merryhill. One is in Preschool in Sac and one in Kindergarten on Calvine. I think there are 16 students in the Kinder class. Both kids have learned a lot. ALL schools should run like this. I worked in public school in Sp Ed in Fairfield where there are 36-38 kids in one room! It doesn't work. Chaos is how those classrooms were. Very sad. Our daughter has been going to Merryhill since she was 8 months old and I couldn't imagine her anywhere else. The staff are all amazing, friendly, and our daughter loves being there. The environment is welcoming, educational, and our daughter enjoys every day that she's there (she also knows more Spanish than I do and she's only 3). This is in response to the person complaining about a purple haired teacher in pre school. This is a private school and they do not impose the "woke" BS that public schools do. My son has been in merryhill for 4 years. He started kindergarten this year. This school only has American flags, they say the pledge of allegiance everyday. Girls wear dresses and boys have to wear pants or shorts. They focus on actual learning, not propaganda. Merryhill Preschool Calvine is a good private school to send kids right before they start kindergarten. I have sent both my kids there. Staff is friendly there and the place is always clean. Principle Ms Nivea and Ms Robins are very pleasant and kind. They have good academic learning for young children. They serve lunch there which is a plus. Although my kids didn't eat the lunch because they are picky eaters. Overall it's a great place. Only down fall is they are pricey. read more

I'm not sure about Val M.'s experience. I have a 4 year currently at this school and have had both of my kids there for a total of about 8-9 consecutive years and we have NEVER had a problem. The staff there are absolutely fantastic!!! So much so that I wrote an unsolicited letter to there boss just to let them know how far above and beyond they go to take care of the kids.. I AM one to complain when service stinks! I AM one who will also give PRAISE when my expectations are exceeded. The have exceeded my expectations on several occasions, not only by what they teach my kids, but also the care that they show them. I'm not sure what Ms. Mimi could have done that was so offensive to you, but we trust her so much that we have had her come and babysit while my wife and I have a night out and BOTH of my kids adore her. I recently sat in class for 3 hours for parents day and there is NO way I could do what these ladies do everyday with a smile on my face. God bless them.... Sometime our children need to be corrected and if you didn't like the way she did it, maybe this isn't the school for you. I don't ask them to be my kids friends, but be their teacher and guide. That is what I expect. I was surprised to see some low ratings for this preschool and have decided to provide my own prospective as a mom who actually has a 4 year old there. First off, Miss Robin is actually a sweet woman and is the receptionist for the school. Everytime I drop or pick up my son she's usually always there greeting us. My only guess as to why Robin would have hung up on Stacey J is because there was a phone problem and Robin couldn't hear her. I've worked in customer service before and had encountered this type of problem, plus I've been on the other end with a cell phone that had crap reception as well lol! (Damn u T-Mobile ) My son didn't go through the infant program but I can tell people from what I've observation daily is that the babies are looked after and do get personal attention. At the most I would say it's 3 infants per teacher or at least that's what I've notice when I walk by the infants room. If you think that's too high of a ratio I would suggest hiring a personal caregiver for one on one attention. As far as the comment about infants sleeping on the stomach, I think that's silly. Why you ask? That's because when I pregnant like many new moms I've read dozens of articles and books on the subject. One year it's "let them sleep on the tummy." The next it's "don't let them sleep on their tummy" and round and around again... The truth though is, once your baby learns how to rollover, there is no way you can stop him or her from sleeping on their belly. You can roll them and they'll roll right back. (How do parents sleep if they're vigilantly rolling their babies at night? ) Unless you're paying someone to be an offical baby flipper to stand next to your infant while they sleep. So, long story longer... They don't even deserve one star. I usually don't like writing bad reviews but I just feel me being a first time Mom and how much I rely on yelp, I'd want someone to tell me the plus and minuses. I've worked in customer service for over 15 years, I know it's almost impossible it make everyone happy and there's always going to be people complaining. We'll unfortunately I had a really bad experience with this place. When I first moved to this city I was living on the Laguna side. So enrolled my 3 yr old daughter to the Merryhill off of Harbour Point Drive. Loved it! Her teacher was Miss Ashley, all front office staff was super friendly, real and I just got nothing but great vibes every time I went. Unfortunately I had to move to the Elk Grove side and at first I was so happy because I seen this school and it was minutes away from me. I decided to do a sit in with my daughter because my daughter is still new to leaving my side and extremely shy and quiet with new environments. When I first enrolled her I really didn't get the same great vibes like the other Merryhil school. I got to meet her new teacher and just didn't feel the same. The principal and assistant were pushy, talked over each other and it was felt like they were fake. They reassured me how great the teacher they had was and how everyone loved this older Mexican lady and how they called her "Grandma." I said okay, cool. No matter how I didn't get great vibes..I just told myself to give this place a fair chance. I sat in with this teacher and watched this lady read to her class during circle time. There was one little boy who wasn't sitting correctly in the circle and kept turning around. Which yes, don't get me wrong. I know it's not easy to discipline a bunch of toddlers, I know they have their work cut out for them. I get that. I don't even think I could handle a bunch of kids at once, but I watched this lady grab this poor little boy by his shoulder and turn him around, not once but twice, right in front of me. If she would have done that to my daughter, my daughter would have freaked out and been traumatized, especially since she's new to preschool. I was so upset that all I could do was take my daughter and walk out the door. I'm not one who likes confrontation, I normally try to avoid it and run from it..but I'm trying to improve myself and stand up for what's right. So I finally got enough courage to cancel my daughters membership and ask for a refund and complain about what I seen. Of course the principal and assistant said it wasn't going to be that easy to refund my money, I said there's no time limit. They asked my reasons and when I told them what I seen, all the principal could say was why didn't I say anything sooner than 2-3 weeks? Not any apologies, just horrible customer service. I already knew that since this "grandma" lady was fine with disciplining kids like that in front of me, I'm sure they all know exactly how she handles her kids. NOT OKAY WITH THIS MOM! All I could think about was how badly I wanted to find that little mixed Asian boys parents and tell them exactly how he was being treated! Poor baby! I will never ever leave my daughter at a place like this ever again! All that I know is my mom gut intuitions have been right for me since I've had my daughter and I will make sure to always try to pay attention to what their trying to warn or tell me. She is the epitome of a great teacher! When I drop my kids off I want to drop them off with a teacher that wants to be there like this "Grandma", not a teacher that has to be there. I have two children that attended Merryhill Calvine Preschool and all I can do is say what a WONDERFUL job the teachers and staff did for my children. They are academically above their grade level at their current school. Whenever we drive by the school my son always asks to stop and see his teachers, that tells me that they made such an impact in my children's lives. My daughter has been going to Merryhill for 3 years and I could not be more pleased with my experience here. I truly feel like the teachers and staff treat me and my daughter like family. Ms. Robin and Mrs. Nivea especially have gone out of their way to help me (as a new single mom) to accommodate my schedule and go above and beyond their duties as principal and assistant to make my life as easy as possible. The academic program they teach our children on a daily basis just blows me away. Aurora comes home every day with a new skill and story to share. I have developed such a wonderful relationship with so many teachers as my daughter moves from room to room as she grows and develops. One teacher In particular was written about in a previous review here on Yelp negatively and I want to just say that I have NEVER heard of mrs. Mimi ever treating a child badly. She is my daughters favorite teacher. Every time we walk in the room she gives us a warm greeting, hugs, kiss on the forehead and always inquires about my life and my daughter. I wish Aurora would never grow up so she could stay under their care forever, because I don't trust many with my child, but I have zero worries in the world when she is in their care. My daughter has attended this Merryhill School since she was 3 months. The infant teachers were awesome - my baby is still attached to them. I feel like she has excelled and continues to surpass most kids her age. She is now 22 months and can count to 20, spell her name, knows basic animals/shapes/colors, knows her birthday, and she can point out all of her letters on a keyboard.I live several miles away from the school, but it's worth the drive knowing that my daughter is comfortable in her environment and I feel confident that she is learning something new everyday. :) Yay!
