I was referred to Merson's by a friend and now it is the only place I'll go for tire related purchases in Montreal. The people that run the joint speak great english, and are friendly to english speakers, which is why they continue to get my business. Additionally the guy that sold me the tires was very knowledgeable about the products he was selling. I also got a good deal on tires here, 4 yokahama's for $600 out the door...compared to 4 goodyears from canadian tire another friend got for $540. Also compare my purchase to $100 per tire on tirerack.com, with installation and Canadian taxes included in my purchase, $600 is pretty damn good. Conveniently they will also store your winter/summer tires for the season at a rate of $16 per tire. Be sure to make an appointment or you'll be sitting for several hours. read more

On Oct. 20, 2018, we found ourselves at Super C on St. Jacques with a dead battery. My husband walked over to Merson. Charlie gave the "go ahead" to Earl, who drove up with a charger, noted the loose connection and boosted our car. We drove over to Merson, were seen immediately, the connection fixed...all "gratis". Mark insisted on this, as he said we were loyal customers. Merson has serviced our vehicle since we bought it; over 13 years now. All staff are polite, courteous, professional...They are the bestest! What's the word I'm looking for? Scam artists, rip off artists or just plain awful? Either they're viciously deceptive or totally inept and I'm not sure which one is the better option at this point. They try and up sell you on everything since making sales is more important than actually repairing what's wrong. They go out of their way to treat everyone equally, unfortunately that means they treat everyone like a bewildered 1930's woman who wondered in dressed in diamonds and a fur coat oblivious to the workings of this crazy moving metal horsey thing! i had the brakes done on my company van here since it's proximity to my warehouse and availability during a busy season were a good fit. What wasn't a good fit were the obviously "jobber" brakes they gave me after charging me full price since "you'll need to use the real parts". A loud grinding noise was coming from my front end recently and I attributed it to something else since it couldn't possibly have been the brakes... Spoiler alert, it was the brakes.My warehouse is adjacent to a private mechanic who after inspecting the brakes yesterday informed me that the parts were indeed bottom tier. I had my brakes done less than 1.3 years ago and they're ENTIRELY done. Bottom line, no grarage is "honest" and the ones that have to keep telling you they are akin to Justin Bieber saying he's sorry. We know he doesn't really mean it but we fall for it each time. Really? They don't try to sell extra services? I can assure you that they tried to sell me new disc pads and having just been assessed at my dealer a couple of months previously that I had 40% left and now I was told that I needed new pads. Thankfully, I refused and sure enough, upon inspection, they were not needed. You certainly get top notch tires and service tho, but trying to squeeze more money out of people makes me wonder, especially since the majority of their customer base are seniors. My car had been making a loud noise when accelerating for a couple weeks. I had not had my car repaired in Montreal before and was on the look-out for a new mechanic. None of my friends have cars, so I went by the positive yelp reviews here and went to Merson. After inspection they quoted me the price for exhaust problem I was having which seemed a bit pricey but reasonable, as well as the prices for a few other things I knew were problems but hadn't gotten to yet (new front tires, oil change). However, they also told me that my head gaskets were leaking "like crazy!!!!" (written this way on their inspection sheet), that oil and antifreeze were "going everywhere" and this was a large, necessary repair that would cost at least $2000 before tax, perhaps more after they took it apart if they saw worse damage. They told me it must be done ASAP, or my car would be totaled as all the oil would leak out causing my car to run dry. I had them fix the exhaust, change my oil and front tires, and they called me up after the repair to tell me that they were able to repair the exhaust instead of replacing it, which cut the price from $900 to $688, but they also told me I should replace my back tires (which would bring it up to $900 again). I told them thank you for the repair, but don't change my tires. This "discount" is why I gave them 2 stars and not 1. I got a recommendation from another Montreal forum I frequent, picked up my car, and took it to this mechanic, Pneus et Bois St Pierre in Lachine, for a second opinion. They told me the leak was very, very minor, no need for repair and certainly not replacement at this moment, and to just keep an eye on it during all oil changes and tire changes in the future. No charge for their time. Sounds good to me. Merson lost me as a customer, that's for sure. read more

It's a pleasure to deal with a shop which you sense is both professional and also responsive to one's individual need. My wife and I were at the point of departing on a trip to the states when I realized that our Toyota was dripping oil beneath the car. We rushed to Mersen's at 7:30 AM, and in spite of the fact that they were very busy, they accomodated us with immediate service, found the problem - a deteriorated washer on the oil drain plug, fixed everything and had us on our way in under an hour. Either crooks or incompetent. They tried to sell me a clutch and a transmission while the problem was just a stick shift linkage. Will never go there again EVER! This is not a fake review, why is it filtered out? I am a genuine customer who was very disappointed by this garage. the last time i went to merson for a tire change they broke my tps sensor and then told me it was not there fault i said the car came to your shop it was working and now its broke you charge 100$ plus for a tire change and you take no responsibility for your actions after making a fuss in there waiting room and storming out they called me and offered to do it for free yes after making a fuss they took responsibility thats really honest this is why i will never go there again and will tell everybody i now not to go to merson read more

My mother, a senior, went to Merson to have her car check out for the winter. She was told that she needed new ball joints, an $800 job. She didn't get the work done but took it to my mechanic for a second opinion. It turns out that there was nothing wrong with the ball joints. He explained what he looked for and that none of telltale signs of wear were present. I am sure that my guy wanted to make an $800 sale but preferred only to fix what was actually broken instead of making things up. I posted this to Facebook and several others have experienced the same problem with Merson. Shame on them for trying to take advantage of their customers! read more
