Our juice and tostadas were made to order from fresh local ingredients. Be prepared for a little wait as the owner makes everything from scratch when you order and be prepared to pay a premium.

Fabulous breakfast!!!…read more This was the most delightful breakfast that we've had since in Spain. The restaurant was small and cozy, with seating inside and outside on the sidewalk. The owner really wanted everything to be perfect and appealing- from the music to the taste to the visual. Very eclectic decor and music playlist, but very warm. The owner does speak English and the menu has English and french(?- I forget, but think so). You can get coffee and tea, but, as opposed to other breakfast places where it's only bread with toppings or muffins, Él Arbolito has fresh fruit salad, bowl of fiber cereal mixed topped with yogurt and fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices, a homemade cake, or even a sandwich. I got the cereal with the fresh fruit- the fruit was so sweet, that it didn't need any other sweeteners. It came with fresh juice- which he made me grapefruit- orange-strawberry and coffee or tea. It was a large, filling breakfast. My husband got a vegetarian sandwich with coffee, and for everything it was 10.20 €. The food was delicious. If we were to be here longer, I would be going here daily for breakfast. A wonderful find. I highly recommend it!

Super unimpressive. BUT the true disappointment was the staff. Our waiter dropped and shattered a bottle of chocolate milk at our feet and then left the puddle where it lay while we ate. Cleanliness is obviously not his forte. Both waiters and the cook were clearly uncomfortable with us. We were simply sitting next to each other, no PDA or anything untoward, and yet there was chatter and sniggering from the 3 of them. A staff that mocks, and sniggers at a same sex couple in 2019 is about as low as you get, in my book. With just decent coffee, and a piss poor tuna sandwich, there's no reason for me to ever visit again. In a country as LGBTQ friendly as Spain, let me be perfectly clear: this place is NOT LGBTQ friendly. Avoid, as you would any other bigoted establishment. Other merchants deserve your dollars, not these intolerant regressives.

It was fresh, nice and warm but I could not get over the saltiness. But to each it's own. Maybe it's supposed to taste like that. The cafe is really nice though to sit down and have coffee and a treat. Nice setting

Casa Diego was full of Spanish families celebrating Semana Santa, not another foreign tourist in the bunch, which let us know we were in the right place. Their Salmorejo was garnished with tuna and ham (meats vary among sardines, anchovies, chorizo, tuna, shredded chicken, etc) in addition to the standard hard boiled egg. It tasted very fresh and homemade, especially compared to the one my husband had in Cordoba. Casa Diego's Salmorejo had layers of flavor and was very thoughtfully created. I had a salad dinner because I'd had too many meat dishes without roughage and my body needed greens. Unfortunately the salad was mostly iceberg which has very few nutrients, but I appreciated the vegetable intake of some kind. I tried my son's lagrimitas de pollo and patatas, both high quality and very good. Chicken fingers looked homemade, as did the potatoes. My husband got the swordfish, which he said was firm, with good flavor and a a good hint of char. The olive oil complemented the taste. For dessert, my son finally got to try the Tarta de Abuela, which we'd been looking for on every dessert menu across Spain. It too tasted homemade though (per traditional recipe) constructed of cookies and candy elements. It's extremely sweet but definitely worth trying at least once, and delicious to kids! My husband had the Bienmesabe that is specific to Antequera. There are apparently a number of different Bienmesabe dessert recipes (and in Cádiz, Bienmesabe is a tapa of marinated fried fish) but the Antequera version is their own, and various bakeries and restaurants put their own panache into the local sugar/almond/cinnamon/pastry recipe. Casa Diego's Bienmesabe was simple and complex at once, balancing citrus with sweet almond paste, and using pastry to elevate cinnamon and sugar into gourmet delights. The bill was very reasonable especially considering the food quality. Our server was really sweet and helpful. As we finished paying, he let us know the Semana Santa parade was coming down the street. Perfect timing, the float and band passed just as we went out the door. Great experience and will love to return!
