Dr. Metcalf was recommended to me by the nurses in my delivery room when I had my first son. I went with their recommendation, trusting their decision. I did not like him. I love Dr. Metcalf. My two children have been seeing him since birth, my oldest son is almost 7. He is playful with my kids, and they both like him. He always gives me all the information about their diagnoses and treatments. He is extremely knowledgeable, years ago I worked for Illini and Dr. Metcalf is the doctor that other doctor's call if they need to consult another pediatrician. If I was rating just on my opinion of Dr. Metcalf I would give 5 stars, I don't love the office where he works. Some of the staff have been there for years and are great, but there are a few office staff I could do without. Also, it is very hard to get in for an appointment, I often have to see another doctor in the practice for an acute illness, or go to convenient care. read more

Dr. Metcalf is now retired. He cared for my children growing up and cared for my grandchildren as well. We really liked him.

We had another doctor in his practice until he left. We then started with Dr. Metcalf. When all of the infants in the Quad City area had RSV back in 2003, he was the doctor everyone went to for assistance. He is extremely knowledgeable. He is very good at what he does. I read that another reviewer did not like him and said he was rude. He is direct and he has a loud voice, but, some people have a loud voice. He isn't yelling, it is just him. He is very good with my daughter and always has been. He talks to us and he also talks to her. He spends as much time as needed and never rushes. When we have been worried about different conditions, he has been very diligent in her care. He explains his answers. She needed to have an ingrown toenail fixed and he did it in the office. It was painful, but, he was quick and didn't rush off even though, they were officially closed. He kept talking to her until she was calm and she would smile at him. He wanted to make sure she was happy when she left. As far as getting in, it depends on what she is being seen for. When she was sick with a cold/virus we were given the option of another doctor. But, when it was serious, we could get in the same day. read more
