Terrific bakery cafe My husband and I had really delicious dinner at this lovely bakery cafe! We really enjoyed our Greek salad, authentic wood-fired pizza and the excellent bread that came with the eggplant parmigiana. Mt Gambier is lucky to have a cafe that is open from breakfast to dinner. This place certainly seems to be pretty popular, if the crowds that were swarming through here when we were visiting were anything to go by. In fact, it was a little difficult finding a place to sit, but we did eventually find someplace. Yeah, this was actually a pretty cool cafe, and they made a rather nice pot of tea as well. The selections you get are pretty good as well, though as I mentioned, getting a good seat can be a little tricky at times, but they do make up with the service, and the tea of course. read more

Metro is a very busy and popular cafe in Mt Gambier. They serve a range of quality traditional "bakery" fare, as well as more gourmet offerings and Greek desserts that are to die for! (I think one of the owners is Greek Australian). Their pies, cakes (traditional and Greek), and Cornish pasties all get my thumbs up! Coffee is always spot on. Wanting something lighter? A range of healthy wraps are available but it's tough to resist the rest! The only thing I dislike about this place is the fact it is so crowded and busy at any time of day. Yes,it means they're doing well but it's not the place to linger... Which is too bad as they have free wifi! Nevertheless, I always pay them a visit when I'm I'm the "Mount". Metro Bakery is the busiest spot in town and now I know why! Walking in there was a line however I was served very quickly. The place is packed out but there are booths, round tables, long tables, inside and outside ones too. There were a variety of people hanging out here and the service was friendly. We were in Mount Gambier for a relaxing weekend and I was glad we stopped here for our first morning breakfast. I ordered the BIG OMELETTE which had everything from mushrooms, chorizo, tomatoes and came with a piece of crunchy toast. We also got the eggs benedict which came with ham. There is something magical about going to another town/city especially in a more country-ish area...I swear the eggs here were fresher, yolk more yellow and everything tasted better. Coffee was good here but I wouldn't get the chai latte again just because I think tasted like it was the syrup kind which I don't particularly enjoy. Metro also has many other choices and they sell desserts like sweet cakes and macarons; they have a great range of fresh bread to take home too! read more

This must be the most crowded lunch spot in Mt Gambier! The food is great, the staff are friendly and the whole place has a good ambiance. For lunch, you can't do better than their pastrami baguette. It's only $10, will heartily feed a hungry appetite, and it comes with an onion jam that is staggeringly tasty. read more

This is a great place to meet up with several friends since I enjoy being in one of the booths. Great for tea (my friends tell me their coffee is good too but I don't drink coffee), and gluten free food available too. Whether you live here in Mt Gambier or are travelling through it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Amazing tiramisu so I would guess the rest of the desserts are good as well. Nice selection of desserts and friendly service with a smile! And you can get fresh bread too. I had mine with a glass of red from the region. You can also get food as well! read more
