Stopped by with wife to have breakfast and we were pleased with our choices? I had the classic eggs Benedict and wife had the honey chicken biscuit. The restaurant is spacious with traditional booths and tables with a moderate ambience. Anthony was our server and he is a very pleasant guy who was also on top of taken care of us. April 16 2023: Something happened after we thought we CLOSED the books on the breakfast round up??? We did not agree on the top 3 yet and we had to stop for breakfast after 4 hours of church service running the Tech & Sound at 2 services (we volunteer and were STARVING) . It was after 12 BUT the Metro Diner does breakfast all day......sooooo in we went. IF case you don't see this elsewhere we have done a round up of breakfast spots in the Sarasota, Vamo, Osprey, Venice, Nokomis area. Here is the list from the last 1.5 years. The ham was not great as a roll or some other processed disk-like product with a hard edge/skin. The muffin a bit mushy and could have been more firmly toasted and crunchy as the eggs being a bit "wet" yielded a soggy bottom. The hash brown potatoes were exactly that - brown and a bit overdone and oily/greasy/crunchy. The hollandaise quantity was perfect for me and not overly saucy. It had a great flavor and not too overpowering. 6/10 My wife had the eggs Benedict with avocado, tomato, & ham/CDN bacon. She also dislike the ham/bacon product. Her eggs were a little yoke firm so possibly some better control or monitoring here??? The muffin was also a soft lightly or not toasted affair but overall she said it was good. The grits we just okay, a little plain and flavorless and watery. She asked for a little more hollandaise sauce as hers were a little sparse. 7/10 I might give a few 'allowance' points since it was straight up mid day (actually after 12 pm) and these might have been the first poached eggs done in a few hours so maybe not the breakfast cook/chef or even assembly line process. But we have to call it like we get it!! Up against the other competition both good and bad this was an okay and average showing. NOT a bad thing because the competition is fierce and its more about who makes the least mistakes!!! Great service! Great location and parking, clean dining area and facilities and the kitchen looked immaculate/sanitary while in HEAVY use!!! read more

Came to Metro Diner because we were wanting breakfast for dinner and they serve breakfast all day here. The parking lot is large with a lot of space. The service was great, I ordered the Bissel Breakfast ($12) and a side Caesar salad ($4) it was a lot of food, you definitely get your money worth! I tried Metro Diner again at my daughter's request. It is still awful. Got two burgers that had zero seasoning (I'm almost positive they use a frozen patty). The fries were barely warm and overcooked. But the worst was the shrimp and grits. It was like a bowl of turkey flavored gravy/soup with a few shrimp. The texture was awful as was the flavor. It was not even recognizable as grits ... Also, the server was a bit obnoxious but to his credit, he did warn us and suggested we drink a lot of alcohol before ordering.... Ordered the bissell breakfast and when it came they shorted us on the eggs. Two scrambled eggs would make more than what we received which was easily just one egg scrambled. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she was extremely rude about it. I know it's not their wheel house but don't act like it's an attack towards you, it's towards the kitchen staff whom aren't doing the right thing. I am 79 years old and single. Yesterday the 2nd of February around noon I went to the Venice Fl. retro diner to have breakfast on 41. I walked in and there was no one waiting to be seated. I and the place only had about a dozen or so eating. I waited at least five minutes, and no one offered to seat me. I then took it upon myself to take the two-person table by the kitchen. I said down and the waitress came by and I asked her if she would clean the dirty table. She was disturbed by the request. Then she came by again and asked who seated me. I told no one and I waited for over five minutes to be seated, and no one acknowledged me, so I sat myself. down. She then said you have to wait your turn and go back and wait in line to be seated. There was no line and no one offered to seat me for more than five minutes. She then told me to leave. I spoke to the manager and what a jerk he is. He believed the nasty waitress that I jumped the line. The line that didn't exists. I asked him are you going to serve me and he sarcastically said no, not with that attitude I had. Yes, I was a bit perturbed but not disrespectful. Hed then told me to leave. At this point I did get a bit testy. This is an awful place for service. The food, well just all right nothing special. I am contacting corporate headquarters today and express my dissatisfaction for the rude inconsiderate way I was treated. Of course, they will pacify me, and no action will be taken. No wonder we are in turmoil we are in. There is little to no respect for the customer in many establishments, not all. Whatever happened to the words many years ago. The customer is always right. It now is the business owner, and staff are always right regardless how poorly the customer is treated. Kind of a mom and pop feel here which is cool. The waitresses are in good supply which makes it worth the time spent as well. My buddy and I ordered breakfast and they came out hot and plentiful. As you meander down the Tamiami Trail you drive through a network of retail shops and restaurants. Eventually, you'll see the Metro Diner sign pop up on the north side of the street. You have arrived. We chose to sit outdoors on their shaded patio. once seated, you use your camera on your personal device to scan a barcode and actually view the menu on your phone. This tool saves the restaurant from having to sanitize menus. Metro diner serves breakfast lunch and dinner but we were there for a late morning breakfast. Before ordering, I sipped on a cup of French vanilla coffee. Our server was on her game and made good recommendations on the menu. The cuisine turned out to be good diner food, ham & eggs plus a short-stack of buttermilk pancakes. My scrambled eggs were prepared properly and not loaded up with any extra grease from the griddle. The meat was a good sized slice of grilled ham. The short stack of buttermilk pancakes was done just right. I lathered my hot cakes with a few pats of butter and doused them inmaple syrup - all was good in the world. In summary, Metro Diner in Venice is a terrific place to take a vacation from your kitchen. Salute! read more

I gave it some time before trying Metro Diner after they 1st opened in Venice. While out and about on Veterans Day with my Veteran, we decided to stop and get breakfast. Surprisingly they were not that busy yet. We were immediately seated and given menus. The decor is super retro and I appreciate that. The staff seemed to be hustling around, making sure that everyone was attended to and that tables were being stayed on top of. Such a simple yet great menu, I opted for the veggie omelette while hubby and mama stayed simple with the two egg and three egg breakfasts. The food was brought our promptly, and the managers were constantly checking around on everyone, making sure that everyone was good and happy with their experiences. The amount of food they give you is no joke. The same price gets you half the food at Perkins and not half as good as the food here at Metro. The omelette was fluffy and and grits were amazing with pepper. The home fries were cooked to perfection and not overly greasy. The same could be said with hashbrowns and bacon. The eggs were delicious, and made exactly to order, no mistakes. About halfway through the meal, they noticed hubby was wearing a veteran shirt and the waitresses said she heard that there was a veteran at our table. Once confirmed, the manager came over, shook his hand, thanked him for his service and told him we would be getting a discount off our bill. The bill was discounted and the waitress even said thank you for your service when we were leaving. On our way to the car, the busboys even thanked him for service. I teared up at the amount of respect shown to our veterans, especially mine. Thank you METRO Diner for an amazing first experience. Tried giving it another shot - but disappointed again. The waitress was nice but the avacado toast while it looked good, was served on stone cold toast. They offered to remake it but clearly they used the same bread ( or something) and put it in an oven to heat up the bread. While the bread came back warm it was hard as a rock. read more

First time customer and a diner lover, so was happy to find this restaurant. The staff is extremely enthusiastic and welcoming. The atmosphere is a typical diner and was very clean. The menu is extensive and there are daily specials posted on the board. It was especially good that I could order lunch and my husband could order breakfast. I opted for the cheesesteak with fries. Our food arrived quickly and was hot, which is important for me. The beef on my sandwich was tender and the sandwich had a great flavor, but there was too much bread for my liking. I ended up eating it open faced, which was a better choice. The fries were good. Our server was excellent and prices are comparable for a restaurant of this type. Had a nice breakfast here. Waitress had to also handle a group of about 14 breakfast club guys at same time as us and it worked out better than expected. Guests mostly wore masks when entering except for the couple that sat in the booth right behind us. Is you can and are concerned take a table in the the middle if you are concerned about COVID. Very satisfied My main go-to breakfast dish when I eat out is corned beef hash. Metro Diner offers a hash with a couple of poached eggs and toast, and that's what I had. It was an excellent choice. The hash had a nice homemade texture and good noticeable flavor. It was both good and quick, I had the food in well under 10 minutes after I had placed the order. It was also a good size serving. Service was spot on. My server did a good job of reciting the specials and did all the server things when I expect them to be done, like checking on me, refilling coffee, and handling the check. Even though they lack the chrome and neon, this Metro Diner managed to serve up a good diner breakfast. They are conveniently located at the Galleria Plaza and offer seating both inside and out.
