This is a great shop, with very helpful staff. Sanjay was awesome! I had a large list and although the store is a small space, it has everything so I was expecting to hunt for a while to find my items. Sanjay immediately came out from the counter and ran down every single item in 7 minutes flat! Where else do you get that kind of customer service in DC?? I recently purchased a Hibiki Blossom Harmony for delivery. The box arrived damaged. It was just smashed into the packing carton. I've tried to contact them (phone and email), but have yet to receive a response. The whisky bottle itself was undamaged. Very poor packaging and poor customer service. read more

Metro is a classic "don't judge a book by its cover" tale. Only in this case it's "don't judge a liquor store by its facade!" From the outside you'll have no idea that this unassuming Adams Morgan shop next to CVS and across from Safeway is home to a substantive selection of domestic and imported wine. And if you're no oenophile, worry not, as the owner is happy to make recommendations and judging by what he steered us toward recently he has both your taste buds and your wallet in mind! Excellent selection of whisky here. Make sure to look up at the top shelves above the entrance for the interesting stuff-- and hope it's merely hideously overpriced, instead of cardiac-arrest-inducingly-overpriced. It's hard to complain about the convenience, which is the real reason to come here. The fact that the selection is markedly above average is an unexpected bonus; in fact it's the real reason to come here. For more mainstream purchases, save your money and go across the street to the grocery store, where pricing is way more reasonable. read more

Friendly staff that helped me when I was in a rush trying to pick out a wine for a date. The cashier assisted me and the wine was a grand slam. They also are dog friendly and my hound dog loves getting biscuits from here. read more

Update: the manager called me back and explained the issue in a manner that was acceptable. I will use most likely use them again. They delivered three bottles in a bag with nothing separating them - no cardboard, no paper. One of the bottles is $70 whiskey that is a gift. Another bottle broke because there was no packing and ruined the label on $70 bottle. The store refused to even exchange the whiskey. read more

The store is really small and they're not practicing social-distancing measures right now. There's a sign on the door that requires masks and a limit of 5 customers at a time, but it's not enforced at all. I got to the store and saw at least 7 inside, and so waited until a handful had left. By the time I'd found what I wanted; paid; and left, there was probably 12-15 inside. And again, it's really, really small inside. They also have 3-4 employees running around the store and packing orders for delivery, which only adds to the congestion. I won't be visiting again until they start enforcing social distancing measures. read more

Customer service was terrible. Ordered thru Drizly, but driver complained about not being able to find parking, marked my order complete and left without leaving order. Salesman who was working on 11/29/2020 between 2pm and 3:30pm refused to be of any help, refused to verify where the order had been dropped off at, yelled and said that I couldn't force him to do anything. Charging back through my credit card and I will NEVER order from them again. When asked about their terrible customer service over the phone, I'll be more than happy to tell the story. MUST TO AVOID! Rip-off. THEY DO NOT DELIVER THE GOODS, BUT THEY WILL CHARGE YOU. And then THEY WILL NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONE. In my entire life I have never had customer service this bad. Tonight they charged me more than $100 for a delivery that never came. They are insisting that they delivered it, but they didn't. No one ever called me to buzz them in. I didn't buzz anyone in. The most wretched part is that they don't even answer their phone. Please avoid this liquor store. Frequent ANY competitor because they are not honest or competent. read more

Metro kicks ass. Good prices on everything from wine, cerveza, and ye olde kegs. We went with a keg of Yuengling lager for $90 (plus tax) - the rest of the stuff (tap, bucket) is about an $85 deposit. However, unlike Tenley Liquors, the bucket is a deposit item - you don't need to pay a $5 dollar flat rate to rent it. Always a plus. The keg selection is not as broad as Tenley liquor, but they've got the basics covered. As Miriam mentioned, the managers/owners of this store are great and always willing to help. They even let me borrow the dolly to roll the keg to my apartment (I live on the block - I'm not sure how willing they would be if you lived further away). Cheers! read more

Metro Wine and Spirits is a fairly small place, but it packs a lot in. If you are looking for your run of the mill liquor this place isn't any better then the rest in the area. What really makes this place my favorite in the area is their Beer and Bourbon. They have a full wall of different types of bourbon/whiskeys and a full selection of craft beers in 750 ML, 4 packs, and 6 packs. Most important, they have 5 drafts for growler fills that rotate quickly and have been well picked from my experience there. Just to give you an idea of the drafts, currently they have Victory Summer Ale, Allagash White, Founders All Day IPA, and a stout from 3 stars (I can't remember the last one). There drafts are usually all so good trying to choose which one I want is like trying to choose my favorite GIF. It is impossible to pick so you just have to choose which one is best for the moment. A quick side note on growlers: If you like craft beer and don't have one you are making a mistake. They are competitive in price with a craft six pack, have options you can't get in bottles, and they are great for a lot of different situations (dinner parties, cookouts, watching TV by yourself etc.). They sell growlers here so if you don't have one do yourself a favor and stop by here to get one. Also whenever I have come in here the people working, particularly Joshua, have really known what they were talking about and have been extremely helpful. So if you are looking for some good beer or bourbon in the Adam's Morgan area this is the place you should go. read more

A lot of the smaller liquor stores in DC don't bother with kegs, or offer a limited selection. Metro Wine and Spirits isn't one of them. Came here to get a keg of Troegs for a summer party. The keg list is extensive and the prices are pretty fair. It was $167 for the Troegs, which is about the median price on the list. What's really nice though is that they can get you nearly anything that you want, if it's distributed in the area. The employees were helpful and friendly and everything went off without a hitch. I'd recommend to anyone looking to get a keg. read more

This place saved my sanity last winter. On the afternoon following the second big storm of Snowpacalypse, it was the only place open on Columbia Road. What is a hungry girl to do after she's been cooped up, succumbing to cabin fever? Why, get drunk off a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon, of course. Metro also stocks a diverse selection of wine and beer and (at the time I was there) Jameson-branded flasks for $5. Unless you are looking for something completely esoteric or snobby, there is a beverage for everyone here. Reasonable prices and friendly staff, too. read more

Placed an ordered through drizly, it was marked at delivered but it was never delivered. I called 3 times. First time I was on hold for 15 minutes. Called back, they took my order number and they said they would call me back. Called a 3rd time and they acted like they didn't know who I was although they asked for my order number 3 times now. I called metro to ask if they knew what happened, they said that my order was delivered. They delivery person said he delivered to a man who answered the door and gave him $2 tip. I asked them t describe the man, he refused. I asked for a refund or redelivery, he said something very rude and hung up the phone one me. Beware! Horrible experience. My friend never received her birthday gift today and I'm left trying to recoup money from a shady operation. read more

Very good communication with the cashier - he phone messaged me pictures of my receipts since he didn't put my card through until he confirmed that the beer I wanted would be available, and I was having a friend pick it up. Beer fridges have been warm for months. Don't seem to be keen on fixing it anytime soon. Wouldn't buy beer here, could be skunked and definitely not at the quality that the breweries want. Go to Sherry's for a better selection, fresher beer, and cold beer as well. read more

I'm amazed at the prices at this store. I balked when I found out that a 750 ml. of Evan Williams was 16.99 ridiculous!! It's my closest liquor store and now I realize it's worth traveling to others after I found out that Cairo was 13.99 yeah worth the trip. I should have checked out the guy down the road but it was raining. If I have to, I'll go there again. Given the option I'll go somewhere else, Way too expensive. read more

Killer selection and great service. Prices are high (about where you'd expect them to be for a conveniently-located place in this area). I'd probably come more often if the prices were lower, but if I'm crunched for time and I need something that can't be found at Harris Teeter or Safeway, this is where it's at! I've never tried to buy anything specialty (keg, growlers), and I've heard those may not be so great. But for the off the shelf selection and assistance, A+! If you can't find what you're looking for, someone can often look in the back and they may have it in stock there. I wrote this review out of a duty towards other local beer lovers - this is a specific review of the growlers. (I added one star to give them credit for a wide beer selection in bottles - their growler situation is terrible.) Here's the deal. About a week ago, I purchased a 32 oz growler and Sam Adams Octoberfest, for $5.99 for the bottle, and $5.99 for the beer (not a great deal in hindsight). The beer was a little flat, but drinkable. I decided to give this place another try. So today, on October 21st, I went inside to refill my growler and try their Devil's Backbone O'fest, but I decided to "taste" before buying. It tasted like apple juice and beer. I then opted for their Legend Pilsner. It too tasted like sweet beer gone bad (apple cider taste). I finally got the clerk to taste it too, to make sure I wasn't going crazy. He agreed with me. We then both decided to taste the Sam Adams Octoberfest. You may remember that previously it was ok but a bit flat. This time - you guessed it - it tasted like nasty apple cider and beer. 3/3 beers sampled were rancid. My stomach couldn't take sampling the others. This leaves me quite shaken as a beer fan, and I will not be coming back to this place (I hope to use the expensive growler elsewhere). They clearly do not know how to store and maintain beer on tap. This review does not reflect the employees, as the two I encountered were friendly and helpful. read more

I recently purchased a celebratory bottle of champagne as a surprise for someone and paid to have expedited delivery with a gift message. The delivery person called me to say he was sitting in his car upon arrival, to which I had to remind him it was a gift and that he should knock and leave it at the address. I later found out that the item had not been sent with any sort of note detailing it was a gift, let alone the message I had written when prompted at checkout. I reached out to customer service to make sure the delivery was the correct item in the gift box as I was told it arrived "just in a black bag" but never heard back from Metro Wines. read more

I didn't like the looks of this place from the outside (I get nervous if big ads cover the glass and I can't see inside. yes, I'm neurotic) and admittedly it does look sketchy. Go inside. It's tiny, but they have a good selection for the size of the store and good prices. Everyone there has been friendly, and if you can't see it ask them instead; odds are they have it behind the counter (like Everclear). Instead of buying stuff in Dupont/Logan when I get off work I head to Metro instead because even though it's $1 cheaper or so - it's $1! We're in a recession, people! read more

I've walked by this store for years and never once thought to go in mainly because it looks like a crack den from the outside. The other day as I was passing by a single ray of sunshine parted the clouds and settled on a growler displayed in the window. The angels sang (well, the homeless guy on the corner was singing to himself, close enough) and against all of my self preservation instincts, I decided to check it out (growlers generally win out over safety.) Very glad I did, this place is awesome. Huge bottled beer selection (rivaling dvines) and five growler choices on tap. Service was great and super friendly. After a major FAIL of looking for foreign beers at Safeway, I stumbled into here... craft brews, 10% off craft brews on Tues!!! I was excited to see they fill growers for pretty cheap--$6/8 buck each.. however that growler section did look a little sketchy, so instead I went for the 12 pack Sapparo, for $13 bucks, not too shabby. When I was paying I also saw a 24 case of "mystery craft brews" for $30 that was calling my name! although I didn't get it that time-- I can't say I can control myself next time! read more

I stopped shopping here except for basics that you can get pretty much anywhere, but even then, I try to stay away. Still a decent place to grab a keg if you need it. Was promised a keg of yeungling, and bucket and tap rental, for $107 costs plus $95 deposit over the phone, but on arrival they tacked on an extra $20 in 'fees' for the rentals. Worse, the bucket they gave us was broken on the bottom and had chunks missing - we were told it was the only one they had left, but they charged us anyway. Disappointing. ***CHECK KEG BUCKETS FOR LEAKS BEFORE LEAVING*** I got a sixth barrel and a quarter barrel for a party. One of the buckets had a crack in it and the water from the melting ice, discovered the next day, left a water stain on the ceiling in the room below. Even though the guy who inspected the bucket admitted that they gave me a broken bucket they still charged me for it. That's bad customer service. I know, $15 isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but the fact that they had the nerve to charge me for something they admitted they gave me in a defective state pisses me off. They said they were supposed to check the bucket but if they didn't, they are not responsible for the bucket not behaving as advertised once it's out of the store. They acted like they were doing me a favor by giving me my deposit back. I would have used them again if they hadn't been so dismissive about it but instead I would recommend against using them. read more

This place is really a true gem in DC! I've seen the place morph over the last few years. The owners and team have worked hard to change the image and improve the look and overall selection. Not only do they have a great selection at great prices, they are extra helpful in terms of helping with delivering and loading the car. I'd much rather support this business than the Safeway or Harris Tetter that care very little about my business. read more

I bought a keg from them and when I tried to use it the keg tap wouldnt work. 3 of us tried desperately to make it work and couldnt figure it out. I had to go buy cases of beer for the event at the last minute. When I called on Monday the shop owner told me if I brought it back in and it was untapped he would refund the money. I showed up with the keg, which he then tapped to prove that the keg tap worked, then refused to give me a refund. He accused me of lying then called the police on me to get me out of his store. The police arrived and told me my only option was to keep the tapped keg or take him to court. From one small business owner to another, this shop owner is a fool and a liar. This was a huge waste of everyones time and I will never give him another dime of my money. In addition, he didnt disclose the deposit when he took my credit card info so I am not $260 in the red and havent served a sip of beer. Never again will they get my business, never. read more
