3.5 stars. AWESOME vibe, so great to have this new spot in the neighborhood. There's a ton of outdoor seating, great music, and an overall fun aestetic and a fun metro car theme. The owner of the bar greeted us right away and the service was quick. There was also a local business selling food. This place is super local. Local liquor, local beers, local ciders, and even local artists' artwork on display. This place gets 5 stars for the overall vibe. But the drinks leave a lot to be desired. Metrobar advertises itself as a cocktail bar but the drinks are super one note and all taste the same, plus they're super expensive. A nearly $15 cocktail shouldn't come in a plastic cup. There's also no option (from what I can see on the menu, they do everything via toasttab though qr code) you can't just order what you want. They do have highballs if you want to keep it basic but you're out of luck on any other rail drink, at least through their ordering system. Unclear if they have a full service bar, that would definitely make me rate the place higher, and if they do have a full service bar, that's not represented in the ordering system. This place is definitely worth coming to but not for drinks alone. My advice, keep it simple with a beer, cider, or highball. I will forsure be back to enjoy this awesome new bar in the neighborhood but wouldn't recommend trying any of the overpriced cocktails, they're just not worth it (though some of them are very pretty). read more

I found out about Metrobar over the summer due to their summer concert series. I made a mission to visit for happy hour and to check out one of the performances. The first time I went was during one of their family ice cream events. It was such a cute event and I got to try Here's the Scoop, another spot on my list. The second time I went, I stopped by before a movie. I saw the Jarreau Williams Xperience and he put on a great show. It was pretty busy since it was a Friday night so the service was a little slow but not bad. I was able to get a really good drink before heading across the street to the movies. Metrobar was really chill and nice to look around. There's a food truck usually outside where you can order from your table. The bar also offers snacks. I haven't tried any of the snacks but will on my next visit. My favorite thing about visiting Metrobar is the parking. It has been easy to park each time I've gone. I love that because if I can't find parking, I will go back home. Overall, I will definitely return. I always get emails about upcoming events that seem like my vibe. read more

The food, atmosphere is great!!! BYB performed on Sunday and it was a disaster!!! We were told it would be 3 sets, it was supposed to start at 7. BYB did not start til 8:30 and the person that was hosting the event was charging $70 at the gate. Ppl started sitting on the outside because NO ONE was paying that. We stopped at metrobar after going through the Dino's alive experience. The place was very inviting and cute with the metro car idea. The drinks are great whether you opt for a mock tail or a cocktail you won't be disappointed. I dinged a star off because there was only one food option when we went and since the place was busy it was a lot for one food place to handle. I was also a bit confused as to why we were carded to get in, when children were literally running all over the place. My friend brought me here because I'm always looking for something unique. The refurbished train was too cute!! There is a little seating inside the metrobar DC train but there is ample seating outside the train. I really loved the idea, but our bar experience was ruined by our first bartender. She was acting like we were aggravating her. We asked a few questions, because it was our first time, well she had an attitude answering the questions and making our drinks, so we left and went to the other bar located across the courtyard and had a 100% BETTER bartender experience once we left the metrobar inside the train, which sucks because we went to enjoy the train. That first bartender had a whole bar of liquor but wasn't willing to make us anything but pre-made drinks. We asked this new bartender for a simple lemon drop and she delivered. There's a fun activity so to do daily..we were there for trivia night, but didn't stay. And the bar is open year round. Hoping to have a better experience if I go back. read more

Considering my anticipation, I feel very meh after my first (and possibly last) metrobar experience. I learned about the bar through their events on Facebook several months ago, but even as interesting as the events sounded (karaoke, shopping etc.) I never made it out because I live on the other side of the city and there was just never a good ttime.I finally made it today, and honestly I didn't feel I've been missing much. There was a retail vendor event today, In Living Color, and that plus the fun music (kind of a 90s vibe) made for a fun party atmosphere. But being all outdoor, and no fans or anything, it wasn't super great in nearly 100 degree temps. There were plenty of tables, which are either communal seating or you can reserve a table with plush seating. And fortunately there was extensive tenting to provide ample shade. But the drinks...the usual DC prices, but my cocktail was so weak I could barely detect the flavor of anything but a little gin. And my partner's beer wasn't very cold. I'm not saying it was a bad experience. Just not one that I'd go out of my way for again, and since this is out of my way most of the time, I probably won't be returning. read more

Friend invited me out to metrobar and it just so happened there was a show for pride going on! I think metrobar will be one of the spots for summers , as they have interesting drink choices (would recommend the berry mass Ave), many shows, and food trucks outside that are on rotation. Ol' Metrobar. Whew, where do I begin... I live in the complex, so Metrobar serves as my free music entertainment as I wallow in my feelings on a daily basis. But I actually FINALLY went there one rainy night a couple of weeks ago with my friend. The manager recommended us the Daybreak and the Berry Mass Ave. Totaling about $60 including tips, both drinks were quite strong--right on par for this guy from New Orleans (me), but a little too strong for my friend from Baton Rouge. Yes, there's a HUGE difference. Either way, I had always been intrigued by Metrobar, with its umbrellas and chairs colored for the six Metro lines, as well as a recently-retired 5000-series Metro car as its centerpiece. I went back on my own a couple of weeks ago on a whim, using the Toast QR code ordering service. It's newfangled and quite genius--I ordered a Metro Old Fashioned, paid, and closed my tab since I only wanted one drink. A bar-back brought my drink, I gulped it down and just like that, I hopped on the Red Line. And I went. And went. Buzzed AF and free as a flutterby all the way to Shady Grove and back. But don't worry, I was ducked off in a corner of my train quietly, not belligerent like other passengers. I actually feel blessed to live right next to an amazing bar. read more

He expressed that to the bartenders. The white female bartender accused him of being belligerent, he wasn't. High level black professionals trying to spend a little money and have a good time. ONE. I really love this theme! They have an actual railcar, that you cannot go in unfortunately with tons of outdoor seating surrounding the car. Me and my buddy walked up to the bar inside the train and saw two drinks on the bar and asked the bartender what kind of drink those were. He responded saying look at the menu. Very rude. Secondly, we said well we want whatever those drinks were. He walked off without acknowledging our request and took another order from someone else. He came back to us at the bar and asked what we wanted. We explained to him again, and then proceeded to give us the two drinks that were already sitting there. Cool new bar off Rhode Island ave located right in front of the Alamo theater. Staff was friendly and speedy. In love with the design of the overall space as it's unique while being surprisingly spacious. They also host events to boost local djs/creatives. Will definitely come back again. This place is super unique! I've been here twice - once to see oh he dead and another time for happy hour with live music. It's pretty hipster. There's a stage on a shipping crate! There are cabanas, picnic tables and there's a kid play area - it's dog and kid friendly. The drinks are pretty pricey - even for happy hour. Great location and a fun vibe when we went for a quick drink before checking out the Van Gogh exhibit nearby. Bartender was friendly and did a nice job with my husbands old fashioned and my berry mass Ave cocktail. I liked that my cocktail wasn't too strong but it wasn't just juice either; perfectly balanced. Nothing out of this world or innovative but nice! The location can't be beat; super convenient right off of the metro station itself. I would imagine in the summer there's probably a good crowd but today it wasn't busy at all which is just the way I like it. Such a cool spot and great addition to the neighborhood! Wedged behind Foreman Mills and apartment builds, metrobar dc provides a range of outdoor seating picnic tables, cabana style couches, and outdoor bar games (Jenga, chess, cornhole). They had a live dj playing great music, seemed to bring many communities together, and they had excellent selections of local beer. People were dancing, mingling, and having a good time. They also have an awesome mission to be a meeting ground for local artists (see below from their website): "metrobar is a new DC-focused, arts-driven hospitality venue. We're more than just a bar, we are creating an intersectional space to connect people across cultural groups, and to provoke conversation about where the District has been, where it is now, and where it's going. I've been to Metrobar many times, it's a decent place. Music is a little too loud for an outdoor space, but whatever. Went there again this weekend, and could not get over how difficult the staff were. Apparently you're no longer allowed to order at the bar, all drinks must be ordered through QR codes on your phone, which were specific to your table. But most QR codes out there were for the food hall around the corner, and there were also no QR codes at the fire pits. On top of that, it was dark, which made it difficult for our phones to read the QR codes. When we finally did get into their system, ordering didn't get any easier. It typically took 15 minutes for our orders get brought to us, but because we were at a fire pit and not a table, we had to flag down the waiters for our drinks because they didn't know where to bring them, despite the bartenders saying they'd know. Speaking of, I tried to talk with the bartenders, and they'd completely ignore me, and just shouted loudly, "Order your drinks through the QR codes at your table, and your drinks will be brought to you." I don't think I've ever been to a bar that made it so difficult to order a drink. read more

I've only been here once and it was for the Camp Night event by ClockoutDc on Instagram (definitely recommend checking her out if you're local to the area). It was a great event and it was evident by the turn out. I wish the tickets had a smaller capacity just because there was such a long wait and once we finally got insider after 1.5 hours, almost everything we wanted was sold out. Super happy for the turn out and we will definitely try to this place again when there's no big event so we can update our review! One thing we really loved that they did is display a movie! I went on a whim with my sister due to always going to Alamo and wanting to go. This day it was really hot and was glad that they had fans. At this time the inside of the metro cart was not open. They had different djs and food trucks that we try all which was good. The drinks that you can order to the table were a nice touch instead of standing in line. The cocktails all have unique flavors, I personally love the daybreak ($14) which is Sankofa Bottling Gin, Chartreuse Yellow, passionfruit-soursop honey, lemon, bitters. They also have mocktails, which are equally as delicious. I recommend the prohibition ($8) which is lemongrass, OJ, lime, allspice, clove, ginger, ginger beer. The place is beautiful but do not come here in stiletto heels like I did because your stilettos will go through the gaps in the floor. But besides that the place is stunning. They had beautiful lights hanging and the place was clean! The jazz show was wonderful and they are passionate about what they play. They do not have a large bar option unfortunately so me and my friends got our drinks from another spot. However, my friend did decide to show up here for the jazz show again because it was wonderful. We got comfortable seating and enjoyed the show. If you love jazz, definitely come here. read more
